22  Bitcoin / Press / [2013-12-05] Theres Nothing New Under The Sun Including Bitcoin [FT blog] on: December 05, 2013, 04:08:53 PM
http://ftalphaville.ft.com/2013/12/05/1714212/theres-nothing-new-under-the-sun-including-bitcoin/

Article number 27 in the "Bitcoinmania Series" (strongly against Bitcoin as a currency).

No paywall.

Can people please register and comment? Some of the arguments they make are absurd. For example:

Quote
Bitcoin enthusiasts believe that just because something is scarce and encrypted it has value. By that definition, an individual’s DNA cells should hold as much value as a Bitcoin because they’re equally scarce (linked to one individual) and uniquely coded to differentiate them from all other DNA cells. Yet, we don’t have a financial system that is backed by the physical toenails of specific individuals.

And it’s important to emphasise [Bitcoin] only replicates in a digital way what traditional money has always done.

For example, traditional money uses serial numbers, sophisticated printing techniques, watermarks and other forms of technology to ensure it is not forged.

23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / BitcoinQT enforcing a fee of 0.004 fee? on: November 22, 2013, 08:13:36 PM
Bit odd but when I went to send BTC with BitcoinQT recently, it kept reporting that there was insufficient BTC to cover the .004 fee (despite the fee being fixed at .002 in the settings).

I decided to send anyway, so lowered the amount I was sending out. The message then said the transaction exceeded the maximum transaction size but that I could still send if a fee of .004 was applied.

I haven't had this happen before, ever. What changed?

And no, this wasn't the 190k+ transaction today. It was 2.something BTC. Grin
24  Economy / Scam Accusations / Creativex / basic-mining on: November 12, 2013, 11:32:17 AM
Thought it was about time to cross-post from the securities sub-forum.

Creativex hasn't been in contact or contactable in weeks (very unlike him) and divs have not been paid.

Does anyone know him personally?

Has anyone heard from him since 20 Oct?

Anyone in Michigan, US (possibly Grand Rapids, Albion or E Lansing) want to help track him down? PM me.
25  Other / Meta / Alt forum URL - will it be available again? on: October 07, 2013, 07:19:50 PM
Our filters at work block "www.bitcointalk.org" but the other (IP) address worked fine - will it be made available again?
26  Bitcoin / Press / 2013-08-15 The Times - U.S. security alert over virtual currencies on: August 15, 2013, 11:11:50 AM
An overly dramatic headline for a very short piece in the World news section of today's Times newspaper (UK).

The article simply notes the various investigations/requests for information launched in the US recently.

EDIT: Sorry, had intended to post a picture, but I was busy and now don't have access to the print copy.

The story has gone up on the website, but it's behind a pay wall.
