1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Nano (XRB) onto ledger nano on: July 09, 2018, 01:14:39 PM
Hey all,

As the title says, I am attempting to move my nano coins onto the ledger nano s. I install the app fine onto the ledger, but when I open bitcoin manager and enter my pin nothing happens?

I could not find a nano manager like there is for ripple and ethereum. Am I missing something? Any guidance from a pro helpful.

Cheers.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Siaui help (Can't post on siaui forum) on: December 24, 2017, 03:15:22 AM
Guys,

I tried to post this on siaui forum but it says I dont have enough prviliedge, I can't bloody sort it out. Please help.

I had siaui working fine two days ago. I am now upgrading, I click siaui and it says it is loading, then this error message comes up after about 30 mins.

I found this error fix on the website here, but this is very difficult for me because I am not to tech savvy and I do not save mine on the C drive I use my D drive to save room on the main drive. His advice was this:

Ok I've found my own solution in Windows 10 after trying a combination of things.

This is what I did:

Go to cmd and run as administrator
Cd into your Sia-UI-v1.2.2-win32-x64\resources\app\Sia directory
Type siad.exe and hit enter
After all 6/6 are loaded, you can open the Sia-UI.
It works for me, I hope this solution will help others that have similar issues

I don't know how but I spent a couple of hours punching this randomly into CMD and it eventually worked once, but I forgot how I did it, needless to say it was pointed to D:.

It loaded up to 6 in cmd, then when I opened siaui it got stuck on not synchronizing.

So I know the fix for that, I deleted the consensus.db.

Now I try again and this time the error comes up. But this time I can't get the cmd commands to work.

I don't know what I should type because my siad.exe is located in :

D:\Dprogramfiles\Sia\resources\app\Sia

If I try open cmd, type that it gets an error. If I type d: and then try, I still get the error.

So now I can't even get the above commands to work at all.

So I am stuck, can't login to siaui at all and can't use these commands.

Am I doing something wrong becasue mine is on D drive?

Again, I am not too tech savvy so any help is greatly appreciated so I can access my wallet on siaui.
3  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Ledger and forks on: December 24, 2017, 02:43:05 AM
Hey guys,

Does anyobody know if ledger will or will eventually support all these forks coming up?

I realise most are probably garbage scam coins, but some like the lightning bitcoin or diamond which actually have some value, is it just a matter of waiting for ledger to support these? or am I better off conntinuously movinf them to an exchange for these forks??

ANy advice welcome, thanks.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Stuck ether in ledger nano on: December 20, 2017, 08:23:07 AM
Hey guys,

I am not to tech savvy, I kind of stuck where I should of been which is with pretty pictures and easy fiat to crypto. But I tried to be a big boy and I'm out of my depth.

I had a meta mask wallet and that got all kinds of stuck and pending and i bassically lost $100.

Now I tried to put ether in from ledger nano s and it is stuck with one 'Self' pending transaction, with value of 0 (as it was a cancel attempt using guides from someones advice to cure meta mask),

Then I thought all was sweet so I sent some into ether delta to buy some alts I wanted and I forgot to upgrade the bloody gas.

Unlike meta mask I can't re-attempt to send from the ledger with higher gas so now I got

1 x self pending - 0xb91550475d27e41da2d02649c1915e9c8aa7bf09185f5ec05fe2cb86e4a4c334

and

1 x pending normal - 0xb833a23d542802dca4ce741f6d17dea95b880c44d2b6b02b5f87b8fa74ba70ca

I don't know heaps about ether but I know that bassically if it is below 10 gwei these days it is pretty much stuck in the abyss never to be picked up because its to low.

Any help on what i can do here?? Really should have stuck to meta mask cause at least you can up the gas there.

Thanks for any help.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Verge Paper wallet on: December 11, 2017, 08:52:08 AM
Hi guys, I just moved my coins from an exchange to a paper wallet for verge. How do I view the coins to view they successfully went to the paper wallet?

Thanks.
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Desktop Wallets and Noobness over 9000 on: December 05, 2017, 07:03:35 AM
Hey guys,

I will say straight up I am a long term HODLer and not some insane tech guru but I have general IT knowledge. Also, I have not done this yet, I am just floating the idea, as currently, all my coins are on an exchange. (Not a huge amount, but still I'm thinking 10 years down the track).

My question is regarding desktop wallets.

So I have a ledger nano s, which is where I keep my BTC and a couple of other coins, but it does not take all alt coins. SO I am stuck with the option of keeping them in the exchange or go to another wallet.

I have looked at paper wallets, and to be honest I think I got a few greys in the whole process. There were so many measures like take offline, dont use the same printer, dont ever connect to the internet, all of which were not feasible for me. Also from my experience it is really hard to find a legit seed generator that is not online, and then I need to move it to the wallet which is difficult considering it is all multiple coins. And I also want the option to view my coins.

I am talking (not limited to) mainly about verge, iota, cardano and a few others.

I know these have desktop wallets, but I am not sure how safe these are. I have heard that you need to delete app data? But then I also heard someone did that and lost all their coins.

Ideally, desktop wallets would work great because I can at least keep my seed offline on a USB and only copy/paste it over when I want to check up on my funds or eventually sell out, but how safe is this really?

I don't use porn or go to crazy sites on my PC and I run antivirus and all that other noob jazz.

SO. I guess, is there actually a super easy way for me to create paper wallets for like 20+ different altcoins?
Or can I just use desktop wallets and just make sure the seed isnt stored anywhere?

I think someone said that the app data contains the wallet info, but I haven't been able to find any files which contain a seed or password when I was playing around with them and testing.

Note I am pretty noob with PCs but have general IT knowledge.

Can someone help me out here? How can I make my desktop wallets safe if I choose that route for my long term coin hodl? Just get the apps, move the coins, get the seed, store offline on a usb and then delete the entire app including app data?? (will that make me lose my coins, considering sometimes it asks for a seed, but also a password when unlocking the wallet or to send coins?)
**Note, I am not able to run Ubuntu and all this other stuff, I just want a simple method without going matrix level and using multiple PCs, as I don't have the time or spare parts.

Any help greatly appreciated, and if it truly is simple to understand and solves my problem for a good long term 5 year hodl and is safe, then please leave your address and I will donate some btc to you for your trouble.

Thanks!
7  Bitcoin / Hardware / Ledger to take all? on: November 29, 2017, 08:04:55 AM
Hi guys,

I currently have majority of my stuff on an exchange. I have a couple on the ledger nano s but it only takes a few.

Obviously this is all a gamble, but if it does go sky rockets next year I don't want them on an exchange.

Will Ledger in the next year accomodate for all alt coins or should I accept that for thenext few years most my coins will remain on an exchange?

I know that is takes ERC20 tokens, so I am talking about ones like Power Ledger or Cardano that dont fit in that catgeory, or at least didnt show uip on the apporved list to be able to send to ether address.

Thanks
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Ledger Nano S and Free Gas on: November 07, 2017, 06:16:52 AM
Hi Guys,

I know Ledger Nano S have stated that Neo will be able to be stored on their ledger soon (if not even right now). My question is how do I go about generating or claiming my gas?

Some websites, like 'kucoin' grant you your free gas according to how much Neo you have on their website.

Is it possible to HODL my neo on my ledger and claim once every year from it? If so how would I do that?

Or am I better off moving them to an exchange that grants me Neo Gas.

Thanks Smiley
9  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Ledger Nano S and Segwit2x on: November 06, 2017, 06:59:55 AM
hey guys,

So my question is in regards to the Ledger nano s and the upcoming hard fork. If I have a BTC on ledger nano S on the segwit chain (since that is what is selected for me when I chose 'I don't know'). Will it still get me the free coin?

Should I move my BTC to the legacy chain on ledger? or I will still get the free coin regardless if it is on segwit or legacy chain?

Will I simply split it, as per instructions for how ledger said for Bitcoin Cash claim?

Thanks
10  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Ledger altcoins on: October 09, 2017, 10:30:33 AM
Hi there.

This is obviously for anyone who knows about the Ledger nano s.

So my ledger can only hold about 4 apps installed at one time. But I have various altcoins. My questions is this:

If I add an app, and put my coins onto it. Then delete the app to make room for another app and keep adding coins and deleting app, until I have all my coins onto the ledger.

When I go and re-add the apps will my coins still be there?

Or when I delete the app am I effectivley deleting my coins as well?

Not useful to only be able to hold 4 coins if you have like 20 different types.

Thanks.
11  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Ledger and buy/sell noob on: October 01, 2017, 10:33:27 PM
Hi guys,

Firstly, thanks to anyone who replies with their expertise in this, it is much appreciated for a 'not-so-tech-savvy' bloke like myself.

I am new to the Crypto game and the first thing I learned was  is that security is key. So I purchased a Ledger Nano S. I am realising that there is still a lot to learn in regards to moving these bitcoins around, so I was hoping to have some questions answered.

I currently have btc and other altcoins on a couple of separate exchanges. IE: Coinspot and Independent Reserve (They are Australian).

They told me that I can transfer to my ledger nano s no problem from their 'site wallets'. But I know there is a conflict with private and public keys.

1. So my first question is, can I simply transfer from both exchanges or wallets to my hardware wallet without needing to reset after each download, or without risk of losing what is currently stored on there from say ,coinspot, then it gets lost when I download what is on independent reserve to my hardware wallet? I mean what if even I downloaded btc from 7 exchanges all with the same ledger, same code and never resetting it?

2. In addition to this I am curious about how seeding will work. I was told that if you have a paper wallet that you only 'seed' once, meaning you unload all your coins from the paper wallet because then after that it is not safe. Does that go the same for my ledger nano s? If I unload some coins onto a website, are the remaining coins on my ledger not safe?

3. My last question seems silly but perhaps it isn't. If I plan on buying and putting the ledger nano S away in a safe to gather dust for 40 years, what safety is there for that? I mean perhaps computers wont even take USB by then, or the software degrades, or ledger nano companies dies so my ability to reclaim via my hidden seed is gone? Any clarity with this would help.

Again, thanks for anyone who takes to time to explain this Smiley

Andy.
