Shiny and cool.

In a shameless effort to promote BTC use, People paying with bitcoin pay only $35.99 as opposed to $49.99.

Bad money pushes out good money.

In light of this thread:

http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=12758.20;topicseen

…  I'm going to do an experiment.

A deep discount based on the market belief that the value will rise tomorrow.  By setting my prices in USD equivalent, I haven't given buyers a reason to (A) get BTC if they don't already have it or (B) part with the BTC that they do have.

Fiat users will not get a discount.

It works for me because I have only ~ 180 units left and a boatload of requests for a BTC die.

If I can get most of them in BTC, I have a reason to take a chance with a BTC design.

It's a decent hypothesis to test some of the ideas floating around the forum.

Let me know what you think.

4  Bitcoin / Project Development / Bitcoin fork for a small town on: May 28, 2011, 10:22:22 PM
I want to fork the bitcoin code for a small town of 36,000 people.

Basically, the people I am working with want to foster barter in the town.

I think it's obvious that we cannot ride the coattails of the bitcoin project with the first mover BTC.  Too much chaos in the exchange rate.

One thing I would add to this fork is to control IP addresses that are allowed to mine.

I want to keep the difficulty low enough for CPU mining.  That means no random entries to the network.  Everything beyond mining is encouraged to be as anonymous as possible.

I cannot, and do not want, to stop a verified miner from going nuts with a farm.  I think it's highly unlikely that this project would suffer the same mining chaos of the main branch.

The key is white listing IP addresses.

Can this be done?

This post is short and I have to go for the moment but I would really like opinions on how to make this project work.

Thanks.
5  Bitcoin / Mining / Motherboard question on: May 25, 2011, 04:36:15 PM
I'm looking at the MSI 890FXA-GD70.

Quoth the specs…

PCI Express 2.0 x16: 5 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 (2 x16, 2 x8, 1 x4)

In terms of mining, what do I lose with each additional card?  Do I lose anything at all as I am just hashing with the GPUs?

6  Economy / Marketplace / Metal FX Currency Dice on: May 14, 2011, 01:59:16 AM
Trader's Edge Dice (http://tradersedgedice.com) is now on taking bitcoin.

I'm selling only one product and it is priced at the market rate.

Wish I could've made it more automatic.  I hope it's not inconvenient.

Offer suggestions as to how I can make a BTC purchase better.

Thanks for looking.
7  Bitcoin / Mining / mining speed? on: May 13, 2011, 01:42:36 AM
Been here a few days trying to get my bearings.

My machine is doing the whole generating thing with 0.3.21 at about 4500 khash/s.

Where does that put me on the spectrum of mining rigs?

Good, bad, indifferent?

Should I upgrade hardware or join a pool if I'm interested in doing this?
