1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / UBUNTU 16.04 Help on: April 14, 2018, 12:13:41 PM
I am running several Dell R815 servers to mine Monero.

I have installed UBUNTU Linux 16.04 on these machines.

I have XMR-STAK running no problem at all -- works great... get ~2kH per system.

BUT I have not been able to successfully get XMR-STAK or any program, for that matter, to start up with the OS.

There is a GUI section in UBUNTU that you can add Startup programs... or so it says... but it doesn't work.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / 5x GPU Rig Issues on: January 14, 2018, 09:40:47 PM
Hey guys,

Been working on my first setup of more than four GPUs over the last week.

We determined that six GPUs simply wouldn't run stable, although, it would run sometimes... so we dropped to five GPUs.

In any event... this is what we have for hardware & software:

ASRock AB350 PRO4 Motherboard
AMD Ryzen 1700X CPU
16 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4
** Also set Virtual Memory to 128 GB
Western Digital 1 TB Hard Drive
Newest Version 009S Risers
EVGA 1600-watt Platinum PSU
Windows 10 Professional 64-bit
5x EVGA 1080Ti GPUs

So here is where I am at.

The systems will run perfectly for a while then result in something like "Cannot Validate on CPU" or "unspecified launch failure"

I can re-start the miner & it will run again for a while. Often times many hours but sometimes just a few minutes.

I have taken intensity down & no luck.

Any ideas of things I may want to check? I have been / still am checking quite a few things.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / CryptoNight ??? on: November 02, 2017, 01:43:29 PM
Hey guys,

Just noticing this morning CryptoNight return on NiceHash is going crazy high -- what is the cause ?
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Neoscrypt Mining on AMD on: October 10, 2017, 01:01:43 PM
Hey guys,

So far the only miner I can get working steadily / stable is the "Gateless Gate" miner for my AMD RX cards on Neoscrypt.

Any other suggestions and/or tips for other miners that may be faster ? Also more reliable... I seem to have constant issues with my AMD miners interfacing with ZPOOL on Neoscrypt.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / E-Bay Sellers Beward : Scammer Buying GPUs on: June 29, 2017, 12:20:33 PM
Hey guys,

I sold off some extra GPUs I ended up not using on E-Bay.

One of the items sold to a user wishing to use a different address -- since it was sent within the E-Bay message system I went ahead & shipped as requested.

The next day I got a message from that account saying they were hacked & did not order the item.

So I refunded it and still had time to have FedEx bring the card back to me.

Two days later... another user name ordered a card asking to ship to the SAME different address from what was on their account.

In any event... this is the address / name that was used in both cases :

Jean Burakowski 154 s. Huxley dr, Cheektowaga NY 14225

Both times the message read *exactly* like this :

"Hello, probably you found 2 shipping addresses in order details.
So, here is a correct Jean Burakowski 154 s. Huxley dr, Cheektowaga NY 14225
I had tried to change my address, but here was some error, now It have 2 addresses. So, just letting you know.

Regards"

Figured I would share in case others are selling GPUs on E-Bay.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Building Cheap Miners : My "Secret" on: June 07, 2017, 02:49:56 PM
UPDATE : 1/30/18

I made this original post below in June 2017 -- to keep up with later developments keep on reading.

I've learned a lot along the way & have shared as much as I can in this thread.

-----

Hey guys,

Figured I'd share since I've learned alot on these forums.

I came across a "trick" to build cheaper 3-4 GPU miners.

I've bought 9 of these workstations so far and am having fantastic results -- they are rock solid:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883284912&cm_re=HP_Z400-_-83-284-912-_-Product

It's hardly any more than just buying a full copy of Windows 10 to buy the whole system.

-----

In any event... there is a "secret" to these things... the power supply plug on the motherboard is "EPS" and an ATX supply will NOT work.

So what you do... is buy a PSU extension cable and modify it like so:

https://plus.google.com/photos/111388964237560787781/album/5362166283613539361/5366587361195860994

** -- This is NOT my data but it is what I found when doing my research.

-----

I have build 3 & 4 GPU rigs using PCI-E extenders with these systems -- I am using 750-watt Rosewill Quark PSUs for mine.

Total cost is quite low... and I can still use cheap PSUs to keep my initial cost down (I stay away from more than 4 GPUs... generally I just use 3 per system).

I plan to build up about 30 of these total over time. But I am tapped out on buying them for now so I figured I'd share the info.

-----

I've also found dirt cheap RAM for them... since they only come with 4 GB:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/132163798234?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Some of them have 6-slots for RAM and others have 4-slots so you can do from 8-12 GB per system with these cheap 2 GB sticks.

-----

One more thing... EVGA has good deals on B-Stock Geforce cards... I ordered some today:

https://www.evga.com/products/productlist.aspx?type=8&family=GeForce+10+Series+Family

You can use 4x 1060 or 3x 1070 with those HP systems & a 750-watt power supply no problems (the 750-watt QUARKS are on sale for $84.99 on Newegg right now too).
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / BIOS ROM : VisionTek 8GB RX580 on: May 31, 2017, 01:09:13 PM
Hello,

Does anyone have a good ROM for these ?

They are the slowest RX cards I have purchased to date... running at 1000 core / 2000 memory configured in WattMan only do 22 MH on ETH.

Any attempt to increase memory clock decreases the hash rate... have not seen this on any of my other RX480 or RX580 cards.

In the same system "out of the box" with same clocks an ASUS 8 GB card does 24 MH with identical WattMan settings.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / CMTX GPU ? on: May 18, 2017, 02:47:50 PM
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIADU25RF4312

Anyone heard of this company ? Is it real / legit ?

I have built quite a few RX480 / RX580 rigs... so I've decided to also do a few 1070 rigs.

The price looks hard to beat.
9  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Power Supply Failures ? Rosewill HIVE on: January 02, 2014, 02:33:44 AM
Hey guys,

I built 10 dedicated miners in March originally doing Bitcoin now doing LTC / Dogecoin and have had 5 out of 10 power supplies fail on me to date -- I've had three replaced under RMA so far; and the service was great from Newegg and Rosewill so I cannot complain there. I'll be sending in the other 2 shortly for RMA (have a few other supplies I swapped in temporarily). They are Rosewill Hive 750-watt supplies with 2x Radeon 7950 each running stock clocks -- and also A10-8500k APUs using the integrated GPU to mine (doing Scrypt around 30 khash). I don't do anything else with them -- just mining.

Question is this... could this be a fluke ? A bad production run ? Or just a supply that will not last ?

My research indicates that 750-watt supplies should be more than adequate for this task but reliability has been less than stellar.

I bought them all at once -- the units I got back from RMA have a different cable design; perhaps different internals to fix a design flaw ?

Any insight appreciated.

Thanks!

PS : Good news is... all systems have made ROI and then some for me so I am pleased that I got into mining =)

10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / GUIMiner Issue : Not starting (but used to) on: May 27, 2013, 03:48:25 PM
Hey guys,

I was previously running GUIminer on my PC with a FirePro V4800 card no problem.

I swapped in a Radeon 6850 that never worked due to driver issues.

Swapped the V4800 back in, re-installed it's drivers, now GUIMiner will not start at all -- the tray icon shows up briefly then disappears.

Any ideas ?

This is my office PC and it just runs for a few extra hashes but would like to have it rolling again.

Thanks,
11  Bitcoin / Hardware / Avalon ASIC ROI ? on: May 19, 2013, 10:01:16 PM
I've been reading a good bit on the forum and there is a very mixed bag of opinions.

To use the bitcoin profit calculator what is the best method to assume the difficulty is going up a certain level ?

http://www.bitcoinx.com/profit/

I see the "Profitability decline per year" -- what does this equal in terms of increasing the difficulty ? And what is a realistic number to use here assuming everyone will be getting the Run #2 ASICs online soon ?
12  Other / Beginners & Help / Avalon Asic #2 ? on: May 16, 2013, 02:30:00 PM
So I am looking to buy one from e-bay from Run #2 that the seller is supposed to have shortly... has anyone received a Run #2 yet to confirm ?
13  Other / Beginners & Help / New to Bitcoin on: May 15, 2013, 06:10:36 PM
Just registering to check out this forum and find out more about the "John K" escrow service to pick up an Avalon ASIC on e-bay.

Due to forum rules I suppose I need to start in here  Smiley

To save a bit of time does anyone have a way to e-mail John K as I don't believe my PM system is active yet.
