1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Best exchange to dump BCH? on: August 07, 2017, 03:14:18 PM
So I'm looking to dump my BCH for a few more BTC.

Although I peruse the forum regularly for interesting info I haven't really messed with altcoins or exchanges since the Gox days.

Are there any exchanges that allow trading of BCH -> BTC without needing to fill out tons of info or bank verification crap?

Thanks dudes

4  Bitcoin / Hardware / Franken-USB-Erupter, back from the dead on: September 01, 2013, 03:10:20 AM
I recently bought a lot of used erupters from the marketplace, and the seller included 3 dead ones with the lot.

Plugging them in resulted in usb malfunction notifications in windows, one caused audio playing on the PC to stutter and buzz when one of them was plugged in. Another still kinda worked but got very hot (more than usual) and would throw errors in the mining software after about 10 seconds of mining.

Turns out the source of all the heat was from the CP2102 chip, a USB to TTL serial converter IC. Strange thing to fail on such a device.

For those not familiar with the USB Block erupter design, all they consist of is a CP2012 Silabs USB/TTL converter, an Atmel ATTINY2313 8 bit microcontroller, Octal D-type flip-flop; positive edge-trigger; 3-state and an AOZ1021AI 3A Synchronous Buck Regulator, and of course the BE100 block erupter ASIC

After figuring out the pinout for the programming header on the end, I hooked it up to my AVR Dragon that I bought to flash my BFL Jalapeno, sure enough - I was able to read the ATTINY device signature. The attiny was still alive Smiley

Strangely enough, I had some CP2012 boards leftover from a project I did a while ago. So I figured it was worth a shot. I manhandled the PCB a bit and managed to remove the dead CP2012 without destroying the traces too much ( I don't have an SMD rework station)

Somehow I managed to solder wires onto the RXD/TXD traces and wired them into the CP2102 board, along with 3.3v and 5v power to run the rest of the board. Success! It works Smiley

If anyone is interested, here's the pinout for the 7 pin header on the end of the USB Erupters:
1 USB 5v
2 ATTINY VCC / 3.3v
3 ATTINY2313 RESET
4 ATTINY2313 MISO
5 ATTINY2313 MOSI
6 ATTINY2313 SCK
7 GND

9  Economy / Goods / [WTS] Liquid nitrogen/oxygen/argon Cryogenic liquid generator KIT *PRICE REDUCED on: May 26, 2013, 12:57:08 AM
Hi guys, I've been working on some cryogenic refrigeration systems and was wondering if anyone would be interested in purchasing such a device.

First off, please note this is a KIT, you will get the main components needed to get going but you will need to do some basic hardware assembly and electrical knowledge to get at least a rudimentary system operational.

You will receive:
Cryogenic refrigeration unit, air cooled with heat reject temperature sensor (thermistor)
Cooling duct
Cooling fan (24vdc)

You will need:
Cryogenic liquid dewar (you can use a vacuum flask like a thermos, they are much much cheaper than lab dewars and work almost as good) [Add 0.5 BTC if you want me to provide one]
Variable autotransformer at least 240VA capacity at 120v [add 1.2 BTC if you want me to provide one]
24vdc power supply for the cooling fan [add 0.2 BTC if you want me to provide one]
Gas separation unit (if you are looking to separate anything from the air)

Potential uses:
Cryogenic liquifaction at atmospheric pressure (this unit can condense nitrogen, oxygen, argon, natural gas and many others at atmospheric pressure)
Superconductor research
Cryogenic sample preservation

Cooling unit specifications:
Cooling capacity at 77 degrees Kelvin: 6 watts with 42 degrees Centigrade heat reject temperature, power consumption of 100W, maximum input power of 120W
Cooling capacity is increased with lower heat reject temperatures.
Air liquifaction at 100W input power: ~1L of liquid air per 24 hours, more or less depending on how well insulated your dewar is

Other notes:
Since this unit can easily condense oxygen, care must be taken to avoid flammable substances since liquid air will contain roughly 20% oxygen
Cryogenic liquids can easily cause severe frostbite if improperly handled. Seller is not responsible for any fires or injuries directly or indirectly related to the sale of this system.
Price includes shipping to the USA only for now, I'll need to check if it's even legal to ship this thing out of the country.

Price: 6.25 BTC
Lead time: 2-4 weeks

Feel free to ask any questions about the characters, I've got some free game time so I can log in and check stuff.

I will sell this as an auction, starting bid for One (1) BTC, auction runs for one week (so ends Dec 25th 12:00am EST)
For an additional 1 BTC to auction end price, buyer will receive all physical copies of the game (WoW, BC, WoTLK) Cataclysm was purchased online so no disk for that.

Thanks for Looking

11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Lost Coins and Wallet Expiration Solution on: May 21, 2012, 06:45:50 PM
I've had several thoughts about this subject before and my searches have found a thread or two that briefly touch on the subject.

As most people know, lost coins from computer crashes, accidental erasure, file corruption, etc are a problem that cause coins to be permanently lost from circulation. Most responses to this I've seen on the forum simply say something to the effect of "this just makes the rest of the coins more valuable" which while probably true does not solve the problem.

As Bitcoin transactions gain velocity over time, the amount of coins lost will also inevitably increase. How many coins need to be lost before this becomes a serious problem?

I've thought it is just a much simpler solution to give Bitcoin wallets an "expiration date" of sorts. You must make a transaction using each of your wallets every year (or some other arbitrary value) to keep your wallet "renewed" so you keep your coins. If a wallet is lost, no transactions are made and the wallet "expires", "invalidating" those coins in the block chain and adding them back to the mining reward.

Keeps the coin supply constant at 21M and negates the problem of lost coins falling out of circulation.

I'm interested in hearing others' thoughts on this idea.
