1  Economy / Speculation / So what happened on: February 02, 2018, 01:50:56 PM
I dont normally pay attention to intra-day trading details however today i happen to be watching the fall and looking like 8000 was going to collapse (Gdax went all the way down to ~7500).  But then...

Around 12:45-12:50 GMT the markets reverse.  And i dont just mean Bitcoin, everything reversed for 15-30min, with double-quadruple the volume of the previous 15m period.  It was like a switch was turned on and everything just went from sell or sideways to buy, buy, buy.  That isnt very normal, not without an event and even then you expect a ripple through the different markets as one rises and sentiment cascades across.  Or is the market that irrational, was there some news I have seen, i'm open to conspiracy theory too.

Anyone know?
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / This fourm knows nothing on: January 22, 2018, 01:21:03 PM
What is SIRIN LABS Token?  I'll tell you what it is, yet another token that does blockchain, p2p and smart phone stuff, that raised $157m,  and just popped into top 100 market.  Never heard of it.  All the "where to invest" "whats the best ICO" for two months and I cant say I've seen a mention of it.  True there are a lot of coins mentioned, but one would expect a big deal like that to be more prominent.

So I conclude, this forum knows nothing.  Grin
3  Economy / Speculation / Market snapshot at midday on: January 16, 2018, 12:00:33 PM
So everyone sees red today, a quick snapshot for some perspective (for the top 100 at least).
- EVERYTHING down, except Tether.
- Earlier most have blown off 20-30%, some only double digit, a couple single digit (notable least worst loser is NEO and GAS)
- Bitcoin didnt fall as much as most others. Its already come off lows.
- Most others have come off lows (few still down -30%)
- Wider market outside top 100 there's some made gains - people like their pet coins.

Some news occured, people got spooked and they sold off, now people buy again.  Enjoy the roller coaster.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Best ICO information site on: January 15, 2018, 11:04:28 AM
There are so many ICO sites, which is the best one.

Most importantly which is the most reliable for showing upcoming, near ending ICO.  I've missed a couple of listing due to the ICO sites I use either didn't show the ICO or didn't update the status.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / How many alts on: January 09, 2018, 01:32:31 PM
How many alts is optimal, or at least "normal" for someone to hold?  I'm not a day trader, check prices once a day, not a long term holder either, plan a steady rise in values over months. I've now about 20 coins, too much or good diversification?
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Ideal hedge altcoin on: January 04, 2018, 12:09:51 PM
To start, lets be rational about something, we should not expect 2018 to see similar growth to 2017.  One can hope, and it may happen, but there's no fundamental reason to ensure a repeat performance. Prices may go up a lot, a little, sideways or fall.

So, with this in mind what is likely to be the best hedge for Bitcoin: an altcoin that is likely to follow upward trends but also be resilient to falls, even perform better than Bitcoin should it suffer some significant correction?  I'm thinking this will come from the older established coins, Litecoin, Etherum, Dash, etc that have been around and have a bit of solid core usage independent of Bitcoin value or speculation.

7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Tether (USDT) on: January 03, 2018, 10:26:51 AM
Since this is supposed to be tied to $, can anyone explain why Tethers value is not static?  I could understand a small premium (as it saves people selling to $) but i dont know why it seems to trade in a +/- 4% range this past month (and as much as 1.08) at one point.  Are people actually trading the coin?
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / 2018 performance on: January 01, 2018, 01:27:13 AM
A thought for the New Year.  So many like to promote and pitch their favourite coin, saying it will go to $x or x10, often putting it up into the top 10 coins.  So which coins are going to fall out, which are to under perform and not do so well to make way for the new coins?  (They could still increase in value, just not keep pace).

So for reference, GMT 1/Jan/2018 this is the top ten.
BTC
XRP
ETH
BCH
ADA
LTC
MIOTA
NEM
DASH
XLM
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Altcoin valutions on: December 05, 2017, 01:37:07 PM
We see and talk about the values of altcoins in $, yet how many have any actual $ trade?  Its all via BTC and other coins, so those valuations are based on the BTC/$ value at the time.  Isn't that distorting everything?  Shouldn't anything without a $ market available only be shown in BTC values?
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Outperform Bitcoin on: November 17, 2017, 09:11:39 AM
What coins or tokens are likely to outperform Bitcoin for price in the short, or medium term?  It may have escaped attention that many alternatives doing well against $ are decreasing their value against BTC.  Many examples of coins that have seen very large increased this year, if you had stayed in BTC you'd have done better.  So what coins will perform better to make diversifying out of Bitcoin worthwhile?

11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Beer money speculation on: November 16, 2017, 09:39:20 AM
What's a good crypto for a small outlay, say $50-100, for fun, speculation and possible moon shot.  Please explain any choices.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Please explain Lisk on: November 15, 2017, 11:56:37 AM
Can anyone please explain the point of Lisk as a cryptocurrency?  I see an interesting technology, I don't understand why it's a currency rather than say a open source API/framework project.  Couldn't it have been built to operate with other existing blockchains?  Clearly at market cap of $900m I'm missing something, what is it?

(I know I could probably ask the same of a dozen projects, but Lisk is the one i'm picking on)
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Cheapest withdrawal in UK on: November 03, 2017, 11:42:41 PM
Anyone have input on what the current best/cheapest method for withdrawing some bitcoin to cash in the UK?
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Fee settings on: November 02, 2017, 11:33:56 PM
This was to be a rant about Exodus client... but I rechecked my numbers and realised I mis-read info on the blockchain.

However, the root of this mis-understanding is lack of transparency.  Why do common wallet tools not allow the user one to adjust and see clearly all the fees involved?  I understand calculating satoshis is a pain, but i should be able to change this if I choose and see them clearly.

Exodus provides no configuration or feedback on fees at all.  Jaxx as another example offers "fast, average, slow" but not actually cost at the time.  Electrum gives some configuration, but its confusing (whats the dynamic fee? will the max fee be applied?).  I miss Multibit that was very flexible and practical in this area, you could explicit set the fee rate in and it told you how much the transaction would cost.

Anyway, share your thoughts on setting of fees.
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Confusion on Bitcoin Cash on: October 17, 2017, 11:06:46 PM
I've been out of the loop for some years, came back to Crypto in the summer and the Bitcoin cash split.  Searching internet I dont see a lot of help and mostly from July/August.

What happened?  Are wallets supporting it?  Anyone give a run down, and views on whether to cash out or stick with it?
