2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / A fundamental solution to the spammer problem: Signing messages on: August 09, 2019, 11:38:38 AM
I am a consistent VPN user. One of my pet peeves is that a majority of websites flag VPN users as spammers, which is unfair, but completely understandable as most spammers will of course, use VPNs when their main IP has been flagged/banned.

So, on sites like Wikipedia, Facebook, etc, it is difficult to sift through and filter the spammers from the non spammers, especially if both parties are using VPNs, even if it is for different reasons (For me, it is for privacy reasons. For spammers, it is, well, to spam)

I believe crypto has offered a great solution to this. For example, on Bitcointalk, TOR users aren't outright banned, as they would be on any other forum of this size. Instead, you use crypto to verify your pseudoanonymous identity, after which you'll be allowed access, and will be allowed to post.

As we progress further, I think the ability to sign messages to verify identity will allow for sites like Wikipedia to open up editing to VPN users as well (Yes, there are many issues with this right now, but we could resolve them with time, I think)

3  Other / Meta / Limit signature campaigns on: August 07, 2019, 10:48:47 PM
I mean it's no secret that people shitpost for sig campaigns. I think if we put a cap on their earnings, for example, once you've earned $5, you need to stop posting.

Also, impose bans on account sales on Bitcointalk, so people don't buy accounts to bypass restrictions on Newbie users that are there for a freaking reason

I mean, if you can buy higher ranked accounts, well that kinda defeats the point of having ranking systems now doesn't it?

Sorry, I'm gonna keep this brief. I know there's been plenty of talking on this issue already.
4  Other / Off-topic / GoDaddy a huge scam on: August 05, 2019, 10:16:51 AM
What happened::
I bought a domain with GoDaddy and they canceled the domain without sending any written correspondence about it. Contacted them on social media a while later and they said they sent the refund, which is a lie that I have disputed. They have been unable to provide any receipt as proof that they did indeed give a refund, and the lady on the phone yelled "We don't do that". Shady business practice, to not have invoices of any sort. The reason they "don't do that" is because they didn't refund my money, they kept it.

I strongly caution Bitcointalk users against using GoDaddy, use any other service that takes Crypto instead.

Amount Scammed:
Approximately $500 USD
This includes the ~$5+ cost of the domain, plus a couple hundred dollars for time wasted on dozens on phone calls, as well as the cost of making those calls (phone bills), and of course, the emotional distress the situation has caused me ($495 tops)

Payment method: Prepaid credit card (Vanilla Mastercard)
Proof: Emails from Godaddy which show clearly that I bought the domain
(They do not mail an invoice)

Warning, don't use GoDaddy!
5  Economy / Gambling discussion / Looking for discord group (please read) on: August 02, 2019, 10:46:51 AM
I'm looking for a Discord where users can discuss tips and games, with the following criteria:

1) It must be free
2) It must not be promoting any paid service

In other words, I just want a simple discussion room where people can share odds and such.

6  Other / Meta / Are self-moderated threads censorship? on: August 02, 2019, 06:15:27 AM
I don't think self moderated threads are censorship, contrary to what most people think.

Censorship would imply that the OP is going around deleting your posts from your own thread. It does not mean someone controlling what is written in their own thread. For example, if I make a thread about waffles, I don't want some guy coming in and chiming about pancakes, even though it is perfectly within forum rules to do so. That's where self-moderation comes in. It's not censorship, because the pancake guy can simply make his own thread about pancakes.

Censorship would be if I deleted my own threads about pancakes.

What do you guys think, is making self-moderated threads censorship?
7  Other / Meta / What happens after recovering a hacked account on: August 02, 2019, 05:52:59 AM
What happens if you recover an account that was hacked two years ago, and within this two year time period, the hacker managed to get your account blacklisted by several legitimate forum users? Would you be able to prove your innocence if you showed evidence that the account was hacked and then recovered?

I am looking for a service that either call floods or SMS floods, and does so internationally. All the services I know are based in the US and UK only.

I am not looking to do this to another person at all. I need the service to test how good my Android system is at defending these kinds of attacks.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Fact checking Trump's claims about Bitcoin on: July 18, 2019, 10:59:52 PM

Not that I ever expected a 70+ year old man to know about crypto anyway, (Except Ron Paul!) but holy shit this guy's a headache.

Also, you guys already know everything I am about to write, but it's important the world knows Trump is full of shit. His tweets caused a slight dip in the price of BTC, at which time I encouraged all my friends to buy, now it is going back up Cheesy

I'll cut right to the chase because I've already spent too much time talking about this.

Claim 1: "Cryptocurrencies, which are not money"
False.

According to economics 101 (A class which I'm 100% positive Trump did not take), the characteristics of money are durability, portability, divisibility, uniformity, limited supply, and acceptability.

Bitcoins are more durable than dollar bills (Assuming you have multiple digital backups). Bitcoins are portable (Online wallets/wallet files on USBs). Bitcoins are more divisible than the USD (The smallest unit of Bitcoin is 0.00000001 BTC). Bitcoins are uniform, all Bitcoins are the same. There can only ever be 21 million BTC in total, so there is a limited supply. Lastly, Bitcoin is acceptable all over the world. I will admit though, that Bitcoins are less acceptable than the USD. However, in all other aspects, Bitcoin demonstrates the characteristics of 'real money' more strongly than the USD. In conclusion, Bitcoin has all the characteristics of money as defined economically, so it is real money. However, if you're too senile to understand how computers work, then Bitcoins are thin air.

Claim 2: "..and whose value is volatile and based on thin air"
True that it is volatile. False that it is based on thin air/

While it's true that crypto is highly volatile, this is the case with any good offered in a free market economy. This is because there are no countries to be invaded for the sake of stability of the currency. For example, nobody ever invaded Iraq and killed millions of people in the name of Bitcoins. It is human nature to dump currency which doesn't work for you. However, far too many have been punished for dumping the USD. Bitcoins are volatile, as is gold, and silver, and virtually any other supply and demand based currency. So yes, they are volatile.

...however, the value of Bitcoin isn't based on "thin air", but rather, supply and demand. People need to buy Bitcoin so they can purchase digital goods. People sell Bitcoin in exchange for goods and services. Supply and demand, a simple concept, unless you're a billionaire by inheritance who had to file for bankruptcy several times in your career. What is, however, based on "thin air", is federal reserve currency. Economics actually agree that fed currency is backed by absolutely nothing. The arguments are usually about whether or not we need that kind of system
in place (we don't, the fed steals a lot more from the people than you think).

Claim 3: "unregulated crypto assets can facilitate criminal behavior"
Misleading.

Crypto doesn't facilitate criminal behavior. A majority of drugs are bought and sold through USD bills. For instance, US backed terrorists in Syria, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, etc, don't need crypto, when they can get stacks of USD. Criminals will always find a way to sell their assets, free trade such as the one offered in platform by Ross Ulbricht keep our streets SAFE.

Also, drug trade isn't "criminal" at all. A crime requires an injured party. Two willing parties who engage in voluntary trade for drugs are not in fact committing any crime, rather, they are being unjustly punished by the state. The facts are that most illicit drugs are bought with the USD, most weapons deals happen with the USD, child molesters pay their bail in USD, I could go on and on, but I think I've made my point. The only difference between regulated and unregulated crypto assets, is that with regulated assets, the government gets a cut.

The most criminal act was making permanent warfare in the Middle East a sustenance plan for maintaining a currency, and that was not done in the name of Bitcoin.

All that being said, Facebook's Libra is not to be trusted at all. Mark Zuckerberg already has gone full fascist and decided to outright ban people whose political views he disagrees with. This man is not to be trusted with your money at all. He already got busted auctioning your data to shady third parties. So, Trump has a point with Libra. He really doesn't know jack shit about crypto though.
11  Economy / Gambling discussion / Why the martingale system sucks! (doubling down on losses) on: July 18, 2019, 10:37:37 AM
I keep hearing about this on gambling forums over and over so it's time to put an end to this once and for all (at least on Bitcointalk, I'm aware this system has existed for centuries and is not going away any time soon unfortunately)

There are even many people selling bots here that use the martingale system on several sites.

The martingale system entails doubling down your stake upon every loss. So, if your initial stake was, say, $1, then you'd bet $2 if you lost a game, and $4 if you lost another one, and so on until you go broke.

The expectation is that you'll never lose with this method, which I'll debunk mathematically.

The saying "The house always wins" exists because there is always the 'house edge', we'll be generous and assume the house edge is a small 1% (when it usually is 2% or higher).

This means that the probability of you losing a game is 51%. Let's assume your bankroll is $100, and your initial stake is 1% of that, or $1.

After six consecutive losses, you would have lost $63 dollars using the martingale method, and will have a remaining balance of $37, after which you would be unable to double down any further.

Many would say that the probability of losing six in a row is very low. That is indeed correct, however, this is exponentially more likely with more games played.

So, assuming a loss rate of 51%, your chances of losing six in a row are: 1 in [ 1/(0.51^6) ] games, or 1 in 57 games.

So, based on this math, after you have played 56 games, statistically speaking, you have a less than 1% chance that you will not have gone nearly bankrupt.

And this is using calculations which don't even assume a minimum or maximum betting limit. Every single game I know has had a maximum stake limit. You may or may not hit that maximum stake limit before you hit the six losses in a row, in which case, you would have a permanent negative ROI a lot faster than calculated above.

There are also many conspiracy theories that games implement various anti-martingale methods, like deliberately giving people long losing streaks at certain intervals. However, I believe this is largely a hoax. The martingale system is, for the most part, self defeating, and casinos would actually love someone who plays like that, because it means the casino is basically guaranteed a win.

Also, if they did implement anti martingale techniques, then one could simply play with an algorithm that defeats such a pattern. For example, you could play the anti martingale technique which entails doubling down when you win, and halving your stake when you lose. It would be every mathematician's dream come true if casinos did make their games follow a fixed/rigged anti-martingale losses pattern like that. Instead, games scatter wins and losses at a random pattern, combining that with the house edge is effectively a guarantee that the casinos will make money. If you truly want to win in gambling, you have to learn creative ways to defeat the house edge. The martingale method does not reduce the house edge, it merely satisfies you psychologically by changing how you perceive your losses.
12  Economy / Gambling discussion / {Sports betting} Watch out for "professional tipsters" on: July 17, 2019, 03:50:33 AM
Be on the lookout for sports betting tipsters who try to sell you their tips, and boast about an unusually high win rate (The best tipsters have an annual win rate of 60%)

You can find free tips all over on the internet (Reddit, for example). However, there are many "tipsters" I have seen on Bitcointalk that charge up to $150 to be part of some Discord group where tips are shared, boasting win rates of 90%.

Remember, what you are looking for is how many units someone has won in the long run. If their tips were so good, they would use their own tips to get rich, instead of trying to market themselves to you.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

13  Economy / Gambling discussion / Gamble your Bitcoin, make up to 200 BTC! on: July 12, 2019, 09:06:39 PM
Send me some Bitcoin, and if I'm in the mood for it, I might send you back twice as many Bitcoin. There is no guarantee that I will though. Of course, I won't reveal the likelihood of me feeling like sending you free Bitcoin.

Sometimes I might even send 200 BTC, when the moon is green.

....

Sound pretty retarded?

That's exactly how casinos market themselves. Be careful. The true odds are never revealed, and with good reason: They're never in your favor, unless you got there using a technique the creators clearly did not want you using.

14  Economy / Gambling discussion / Nitrogensports alternative? on: July 07, 2019, 02:04:04 PM

15  Economy / Gambling discussion / Can selecting high odds bets at random possibly yield more profit than a system? on: June 21, 2019, 05:32:57 AM
This is part of a month long experiment I'm running.

Basically, it will answer the following question: Can selecting sports bets with high odds (I'm talking 2.0+) randomly possibly be more profitable in a month than following an online betting system?

In this experiment, I will tail an online tipster's "Free picks". This particular tipster sells "premium tips" at expensive rates of $30 per tip per day. Basically, I hypothesize that selecting bets by random chance will yield better rates. This is because on reddit, there are many people who have made the claim that because this guy advertises sportsbooks on his site, it means that the books he advertises offer him a percentage of your losses if you bet there. On the contrary, I could have also faded this tipster.

I will also include a group that tails bets from reddit, mimicking this experiment . I will use this as a control group. It will tail the most popular tips, that have the least disagreements.

What do you guys think, can I beat online tipsters by selecting random tips?

17  Economy / Gambling discussion / Sports bookie tips (FREE) on: June 17, 2019, 06:38:33 PM
Disclaimer: These are not "guaranteed picks". There is really no such a thing. I don't do martingales/parlays. Also, don't say my tips suck if you tried a parlay/martingale with them. The recommended method for these tips is flat staking, that is, stake the same amount on every single bet, this amount should be a fixed 1-3% amount of your betting bankroll. I've been betting for a long time but I still consider myself inexperienced, especially after seeing how others have fared compared to myself. So, tail at your own risk!

Remember that sports betting is gambling. Therefore, it is chance based. The goal is to have a net positive. Will I? Let's see!

Tips are provided for entertainment purposes only. I will not be responsible for wins or losses incurred.

To keep a consistent standard, NitrogenSports will be used for odds. This is not an endorsement of NitrogenSports and I'm not affiliated with them, and I can't comment on their service.

That being said, let's get started!

18  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Buying a hotstar account on: June 07, 2019, 01:57:20 PM
Hello,

I am buying a hotstar account

It's this Indian based streaming service. I am not Indian/I'm not in India. They ask for an Indian payment method to subscribe, and this is a real bummer for me. They also look for an Indian phone number to register. So if anybody has an account then I'm willing to buy it for more than what you paid for it.

I can pay with either BTC or Paypal
