Hey there everyone. Figured I would properly introduce myself since I'm going to try and start my journey into the world of cryptocurrency. First of all, I remember watching a news cast about bitcoin back when it was around $30, then jumped to $100 and crashed back to around $30 again. I was like whoa...this stuff used to be worth a dime? I knew at that point that bitcoin was not going anywhere but slowly up. And that sparked my first interest into bitcoin. I chose the user name "99th" here because I feel like I'm pretty much last to the party at this point. I would still like to join in of course and that is why I am here and writing this post.
A couple years back I remembered that news story and started hearing more about bitcoin on social media and in the news on a consistent basis. I ended up watching a documentary on bitcoin titled "The rise of bitcoin" a few years and was blown away by what I was watching. This thing that was once an idea, then a real piece of technology, was now becoming a major force in the economic world. Bitcoin was running across industries, being used for many different things, and the public was starting to embrace the idea on a larger scale. The night that bitcoin hit 1k was a pretty monumental moment in the history of mankind. This proved, after the US gave it the green light, that not only was bitcoin never going to go away, but that other cryptocurrencies now had a foundation to work from. I got excited by the whole thing and really couldn't believe that I had waited so long to join the party.
So I had made a plan to start reading and learning as much as I could. I started watching videos and podcasts and reading magazines and blogs. A couple months later and my world came to a grinding halt. I was told I had cancer and emphysema and that I would need surgery immediately. I am only 36, so for me, this was all pretty scary. I never imagined getting so sick so quickly, but then there it was staring me in the face. So I stopped thinking about bitcoin, and everything else for that matter, and started focusing on my health. I now have a 13 inch scar from my Adam's Apple to my right ear and have gone through 3 surgeries. I recently moved from Boston to Las Vegas because I had a very hard time living there due to the cost of living. So I have been out here in Vegas now for about 6 months and back going to the doctors all the time. It's been about 2 months since I have been sick again and going to the doctors a few times a week.
About 2 weeks ago something hit me...BITCOIN and CRYPTOCURRENCY! I can't even believe it's been so long since I have been able to actually get into this.
Now, with nothing but time on my hands and basically a very tiny fixed income, I have been trying to figure out the best ways to get involved in the current marketplace. I do have a 5 year education from UMASS and I majored in Marketing and Minored in Management. I also can build WordPress websites (have been doing it for about 10 years) and I'm a good graphic designer. I have created web content (including articles and videos) for many different companies over the years. I do have experience with social media marketing and SEO as well. I would be very happy to do work for anyone from this community to earn some bitcoin, but that I suppose will be for another thread. Although I am limited to working at a computer, I am pretty good with one. That being said, I am just trying to figure out how to get into bitcoin and cryptocurrency even at a starting level. Here is what I have done and have been doing:
- I have bookmarked a ton of bitcoin related websites (bitcointalk.org is 1st on the row since I have realized this is where I will learn the most).
- I looked into faucets, but the withdrawal usually has a minimum limit which by my calculations will take a month to withdraw about a dollar USD at best (freebitco.in is the one I use the most).
- I made an account at YoBit so I could look at the market and study it and try and begin understanding it better. I also got suckered into their free coins page and spent like 5 hours clicking those damn buttons to wind up with a bunch of worthless coins not even worth 1/100th of a penny. I now know better, but still use YoBit to look at the market.
- I looked up mining for a couple days, and even though I already knew quite a bit, I never really tried to mine myself. I have a good computer with a NVIDIA 1050ti so I have been trying NiceHash, but I only earn like 60-75 cents a day and it eats up my computer's resources so I can't do a whole lot while it's mining. Not really worth it. I even tried the new browser mining available at freebitco.in, but that makes like 10 cents a day at max settings for me...horrible. SO yeah, as I figured, unless I want to spend thousands on the right hardware (which I don't currently have), mining seems to be out of the question. I do realize sites like Genesis Mining and a few others let you pay for other people's hardware to mine for you, but again, the good plans are all over $1000.
- I have been looking into working as a freelancer for bitcoin payments and I came across xbtfreelancer which seems pretty legit. Bitgigs also seems legit, but has way, way, more people looking for work than people looking for work to be done. I also noticed there were boards here about doing this, but I am not yet able to post to this boards. Any thoughts on the best place to do this would be greatly appreciated.
- I learned about airdrops the other day and found a cool site called airdropalert.com and that has been helping me to see what I can actually get in on. I tried so far to sign up for 5 airdrops, but have yet to actually get anything in my wallet. Oh I use myetherwallet because I read that I can accept most new tokens that come from airdrops...does that sound correct?
- Speaking of wallets, so yes, I have a myetherwallet, a electrum, and a exodus. I am still not completely sure about the differences, but I think I am figuring it out. I literally have 0 balances in all 3 of my wallets, so I'm not even sure if they work, or if I am using the address wrong etc...I am pretty good with technology so my guess is that I just have yet to get any from anywhere I am using the wallets. For the faucets I still don't have even close to enough to withdraw. I still haven't received an airdrop so I just don't know if it works yet. Any help with this would be amazing. Anyone know of a place so you can check to see if your wallets work?
- I have obviously also come across many referral links and pages within all the websites I have come across. I have a few of my own from the sites I signed up to. I will try and figure out a good way to get them out into a visible place that can not only get me some referrals, but possibly help some noobies like myself with the bonuses they provide. Any tips on this are greatly appreciated.
So that about sums up my experience up to this point. Sorry for the long post, but it is not only an introduction, but also a good idea of where I stand, what I am trying to do, some things I have questions still about, etc. I purposely didn't use any links or do anything else that the community here may disprove of. Once I get a better idea of this forum and become a more active part of this community I will feel more comfortable asking directly for help.
