7  Other / Off-topic / NEW TV...need advice on: November 18, 2012, 07:53:45 PM
Sister in law bought us a new 42 inch flat screen TV. Reviews say its a great TV but its a no frills set. It only has 3 inputs, 2 HDMI and component in.

I will be installing it on the wall, and passing wires through so everything will be hidden.

My question is, what do I need to be able to watch movies that I have downoaded that are currently saved somewhere on my network?
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / 5970's driving me nuts... on: November 09, 2012, 11:08:57 PM
OK, here is the setup...

2x1000 watt psu
1x750 watt psu
3x5970
5x5870
2x msi 890fx-gd70
main PC

My main pc is running windows 7 and has a 5970 using cgminer to mine. It does not matter which of the 3 5970 is in there, they all run fine. No issues, all 3 cards work great.

The 5870's are split up, 2 on one mb, 3 on the other. No issues, all run great.

If I need to I can use 2 PSU on one machine.

there is a 5970 on each of the motherboards, and at first it runs fine for a few days, but lately I need to reboot the machines every 30 minutes. If I swap cards with the main machine, the card works fine.

I have a killowatt, and I see the psu is never drawing more than 800 watts from the wall.

I am using the latest version of BAMT, and not using cgminer. Running off a usb.

What the hell keeps changing that the cards stop running?

14  Other / Off-topic / Just wanted to mention something that pisses me off...and other things I wonder on: September 21, 2012, 03:45:41 AM
The last company I worked for I did a lot of travelling. In 2 years I must have been on airplanes at least 200 times.
One of the things I never understood is why people who traveled a lot and had gold cards and were allowed to board earlier and use the red carpet while boarding were always getting the VIP treatment. When they were getting on the airplane, they walked on a special red carpet.
Once the VIP were on the plane, they placed a chain blocking people from walking on that red carpet. The regular folks had to use a different path to show their tickets and board the plane which made no sense, as they were now 3 feet from the person behind the counter checking your tickets so everyone had to stretch a bit more to show their ID to board the plane. Eventually I was allowed to use the red carpet, but I do not see the benefit of getting on a plane early…I always waited as long as possible to board a plane, to the point of letting them call me once or twice on the intercom. I wanted to make sure I was last.
My reasoning was simple; I already know I have a seat…what’s the rush?  When you know you are the last to get onto a plane, walking in you can choose where you would like to sit. Worse case scenario you sit where you were supposed to sit. Best case scenario you pick a seat in an empty row, or next to a beautiful woman…or a man if that’s your thing.
The process of boarding first apparently is a big deal in the airline industry. They want people who travel a lot to feel special.  If there are 100 people on a plane, they might have 20 in the first class or business class section and 80 in the rest of the plane, yet 80 people share 2 washrooms and the 20 share 1. at one point I had to use the washroom and the 2 meant for the poor folk were occupied so I ventured into first class, but was stopped but the stewardess, and she asked, where do you think your going? I replied with I have to take a shit so fucking bad and I can’t wait, if I do wait, I may shit in the isle, and someone will have to clean it up, and its not going to be me. She let me pass but with a warning.
Once the plane has taken off they even pull a curtain over to show that you are sitting in economy, but you can see through the curtain, just enough to see what you are missing…
But that’s not the point of my rant…my point is they called the whole process, PRE-BOARDING.
All those frequent flyers were PRE-BOARDING. Boarding means to get on the plane…if you get on the plane first or get on last you are boarding the plane…WTF is PRE-BOARDING? Either your boarding or you are not…you cannot pre-board…
Now for those wondering what my point is…WTF is PRE-ORDERING. Reading various posts and threads about the asic miners, many have PRE-ORDERED…so let me get this straight…you did not order, you PRE-ORDERED…I hope I got it right…I am wondering if I should pre-order or just order one?
This brings me to another point…
First let’s get something out of the way. Tom, I am not picking on you or making fun of your products, I am just pointing something out that makes me wonder about marketing of some of the products on the web site.
If we take a look at https://www.btcfpga.com there are basically 2 different miners;

For 1069$ we can purchase;
“Multiple SHA256 hashing cores for a total Bitcoin mining speed of 27Gh/s”

OR

For 1069$ we can purchase;
“For a total Unit Speed & Efficiency of 800+mhash”

BFL is doing the same, but even worse…
http://www.butterflylabs.com/products/

Slim & enormously powerful. BitForce Singles are an excellent low cost solution.
$599
Performance: 832 Mega Hash / s @ 80w

OR…

BitForce Jalapeno 3.5 GH/s - $149

Why would you still sell the old stuff?
Remember, I am not commenting on the equipment, just questioning the marketing of the products… Are you still selling FPGAs?

I would like to propose a deal for anyone interested. In the past I have sold many bitcoins face to face, to people who do not mine. Many would like to start mining but cannot because of various reasons, but mostly because people do not want to spend the time an effort learning the simple skills it takes to start mining yourself at home. I would like to mine for you.

From what I have read and understood from pyramining is you supply them with some cash and they purchase the hardware. After x time you get all your cash back and a little extra. I think this is such a great idea I would like to do something similar.

My plan would be for an investor to suply the cash, I purchase the equipment and start mining. This equipment belongs to the investor until it is completely paid off, with some interest. All income goes to paying off the equipment first. Once done, this equipment now belongs to the investor AND me. We each own 1/2.

The difference in pyramining and what I am proposing is that the investor owns half of the equipment, so any other money made using this equipment is split 50/50.

The equipment I am looking at is FPGA miners. Yes I hear that asics are coming and will be so much faster, but I do not believe it until I see it. Every one is taking preorders, but nothing has ever been shown to actually exist, and here is my theory...

-convince everyone you have an asic miner
-get people to pre order or pre purhase
-price the prouct in $ but take payments in BTC
-stall
-block reward halves
-bitcoin value skyrockets
-announce that the project has failed
-return everyones $ via BTC

I may be wrong, but I have been purchasing a few FPGA miners, and will continue doing so.

So a quick recap on the plan:

-Invest about $450 and I purchase an FPGA miner
-Miner repays the investor plus interest
-Once equipment is paid off miner belongs to investor and me
-All other profits from that point on are split 50/50
-Right now the typical fpga miner hashing at 400 makes about $1.75 per day.
-price of electricity right now is a non issue

If someone is interested please post your comments and/or questions, or send me a PM.

17  Bitcoin / Pools / Looking for a new pool... on: September 10, 2012, 03:27:40 PM
for my bitcoin life I have been using slush, and have no complaints...till now...

I want a pool that i can have all information, my hashing speed, workers...everything. Slush has been great but having to wait 10 rounds to see my hash rate is killing me. I have an account on GPUmax, but i do not want to use them.

Ideally I would like a widget of some sort to use on my desktop too...was looking at ozcoin, but the widget part does not seem to be downloadable...

ANY SUGGESTIONS?
