1  Economy / Auctions / Auction - 15 Drillbit 8 Boards from Batch 1 on: September 27, 2013, 07:10:59 AM
This is an auction for 15 Drillbit boards with hashing power of up to 21.7 GH/s each.

For more information on the Drillbit System please go here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=266235.0

Estimated delivery on these boards is late October / early November depending on when the Bitfury chips arrive. Could be earlier if we get them earlier.

For this auction, we are only accepting bids and payment in BTC. Starting bid is 3 BTC. All bids are considered binding. Happy bidding.

Timer removed. End time: 2013-09-29+07:11:00UTC
2  Economy / Auctions / [AUCTION] 16 Fully Assembled BITFURY Drillbit Boards on: August 27, 2013, 05:36:47 AM
16 Drillbit Boards at 21.6 Gh/s up for auction

The Drillbit Board is a modular mining board that can be stacked together for expandability. Each board contains 8 Bitfury chips each with a proven hash rate of up to 2.7 GH/s with overclocking and sufficient cooling. This brings the total potential hashrate of a fully stacked Drillbit Board to 21.6 GH/s per board. Orders of 4 or more boards come with a free miniplane which can take up to for boards.

The Drilbit board is part of an almost completed Group Buy of a reel of Bitfury Chips due for delivery in October. Upon receipt of the chips, we anticipate approximately 3 weeks for fabrication and manufacture which would mean these will be delivered late october / early november if we do indeed receive the chips when promised. As with all things Bitcoin, we don't have control over this bit, so the chips may arrive late. If they do, there's nothing we can do, but currently its feeling like everything is on track for October delivery.

You can find all the details you need, including photos and specs for the Drillbit System here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=266235.0

  • This auction is for completed Drillbit Boards. Each one is a standalone miner, but can also be stacked for increased hashrates.
  • Bidding will be done in $US, but payments may be paid in $US or BTC with an approipriate exchange rate to be determined at the completion of the auction. (currently ~$125 = 1 BTC)
  • Bidding starts at $350 per board and can be raised in increments of $10.
  • All bids are binding and final.
  • The auction will last for 2 days

Happy bidding everyone.

    BITFURY chips

    BITFURY 55nm ASIC chips, Demonstrated performance 2.7 GH/sec @ 0.835V (0.8W/Ghps)

Early chance to get on board with next generation chips 10 times more powerful than Avalon chips.

    Introducing the DrillBit System

An affordable and expandable bitcoin mining system.

The DrillBit system is the most versatile Bitcoin mining system available. It will expand to suit your needs. You can start up with a small mining rig, similar to many entry level rigs on the market, or you can start bigger. As you decide to expand your hashing capabilities, the DrillBit system will expand to suit your requirements, easily and simply.

The basic module of the DrillBit system is a single DrillBit board; an 8 BITFURY ASIC card. With a hashrate of approximately 21.6 GH per card (based on BITFURY's published spec of 2.7Gh/s per ASIC), the board plugs into a standard USB socket. The power can be supplied by a normal ATX power supply. If you are only running a single board, it may also be powered from a spare disc drive connector, allowing you to install it out of sight, inside your computer, should you wish to. You can be hashing all the time, with no extra boxes to stash, no cords to trip over and accidentally unplug.

The DrillBit board runs as a standalone miner, so you are ready to start mining as soon as you get it, nothing more required. But when you want to add more hashing power, this is where the DrillBit system really shows its advantages over other systems. If you want to double your hashrate to 43.2GH, just get another Drillbit Board and plug it into the 4 stack Miniplane (free with orders of two or more boards). Its that simple. No big strings of USB hubs, no messy cables or setup changes. The data distribution card automatically registers the extra ASIC card and operates accordingly. Up to 4 cards can be stacked in this way. Simple, convenient, efficient. Just add more processing power when you want to. You can then be running at 86.4GH quite easily, expanded up from your initial investment of 21.6GH. Nothing to resell, nothing going unused.

If you wish to expand beyond 4 DrillBit boards to achieve even higher hashrates, the DrillBit system can accomodate this also with the miniplane system. The miniplane is a distribution board that the ASIC cards plug into individually. We are also looking at a Megaplane wich will take stacks of up to 4 Miniplanes. So if you want to run much higher hashrates, you can get a megaplane and fill it with ASIC cards as you decide to buy them.. The same principle applies. Simple and efficient. You just plug in extra cards, and the system configures to the extra power. All versions of the system run conveniently from a standard ATX power supply, so it is easy to operate. You could also just run a number of card stacks from a USB hub, in much the same way as other systems offer, if you so desire. Or you could run multiple backplane systems from the same setup. With 16 cards in a backplane, you will have up to 345.6GH/s of hashing power.

Thats more than any other single miner on the market at this time. But the beauty of the DrillBit system is that you don't have to outlay all that cash immediately. You can get started on a smaller system of whatever size you like, and build as you are ready.

** A note on the hashing power of BITFURY chips. The chips have been demonstrated to have performance up to 2.7 Gh/s. This is what you can get if you overclock and run them at very high temperatures. The sweetspot for efficiency of W/Gh is more somewhere around 2 GH/s. We will have more info on this once we get more testing done.

The Drillbit board is designed with overclocking capabilities built in, so you will have control over how hard you run the chips. We will provide specs for recommended stable running rate, but in the end if you want to squeeze every last hash out it it, you will be able to so.

We will also be offering a thumbdrive version of the Drillbit System comprised of 1 chip, giving you up to 2.7 Gh/s. These will be nice and cheap. Pricing soon.

The DrillBit system is designed by Dan Stocks, an electronics phd with 30+ years in electronic design, highly experienced PCB designer, currently doing it as a full time job for a well known electronics manufacturing company.

    Feature set
    Drillbit Thumb

ASIC core voltage adjustable in 4 steps. Set through software interface.

Prototype has external clocking of the ASIC. We are investigating this as no one has published any spec for this mode of operation. It might give better GH/W performance. It isnt possible to tell until we test it. The external clocking chip is good for speeds of up to 2.7GH or so.

Depending on the performance this may or may not be on the production version. The pads for the chip & associated parts will still be there even if we don't include it so any keen experimenters could add it themselves.

There are button pads on the back. If anyone feels like soldering the buttons on then they can have a manual ASIC core voltage up/down and core clock rate up/down

    Feature set
    Drillbit 8 board

4 step ASIC core voltage adjustable. Can be software adjusted or by pushbuttons.

Power supply rated to heavy overclocking capabilities. can supply over 24A @ 0.9V (= 3A/ chip!). This is easily enough that the most severe overclocking power requirements will be met.

The core adjust feature is prototype development, it will likely be a production feature but may delete it if it turns out to be necessary.

4  Bitcoin / Group buys / [OPEN] - GROUP BUY of Avalon Chips + DRILLBIT SYSTEM mining assembly on: July 22, 2013, 01:20:54 PM
This is a group buy for a batch of Avalon chips.

      CHIPS AVAILABLE: 9484

There are three options for this group buy.

      1. Purchase of chips only

      2. Chips plus assembly into the DrillBit system.

      3. Purchase of DrillBit system components for DIY assembly

      Avlaon chips

      Avalon 110nm ASIC chips, producing 282 mh/s.

The basic module of the DrillBit system is a single DrillBit board; a 16 ASIC card. With the basic hashrate of approximately 4.5 GH per card (based on Avalon's published spec of 282MH per ASIC), the board plugs into a standard USB socket.

The ASIC board has 3 ports built in. The top port on the first board takes a data distribution board - like the FPGA board in the Avalon miner, only much, much simpler. It comes included with the initial purchase of a DrillBit board so you are ready to start mining as soon as you get it, nothing more required. But when you want to add more hashing power, this is where the DrillBit system really shows its advantages over other systems. If you want to double your hashrate to 9GH, just get another ASIC card and plug it into the bottom port of the first card. Its that simple. No big strings of USB hubs, no messy cables or setup changes. The data distribution card automatically registers the extra ASIC card and operates accordingly. Up to 4 cards can be stacked in this way. Simple, convenient, efficient. Just add more processing power when you want to. You can then be running at 18GH quite easily, expanded up from your initial investment of 4.5GH. Nothing to resell, nothing going unused.

If you wish to expand beyond 4 DrillBit boards, to achieve even higher hashrates, the DrillBit system can accomodate this also with the backplane system. The backplane is a large distribution board that the ASIC cards plug into individually. So if you want to run much higher hashrates, you can get a backplane and fill it with ASIC cards as you decide to buy them.. With 16 cards in a backplane, you will have 72GH/s of hashing power.

Thats more than any other single miner on the market at this time. But the beauty of the DrillBit system is that you don't have to outlay all that cash immediately. You can get started on a smaller system of whatever size you like, and build as you are ready.

      Pricing

      Chips:

      • Avalon ASIC chips can be ordered for BTC 0.086
      • This is to be paid immediately upon order placement. This will fund the purchasing of the chips.
      • Receipt of chips from Avalon may also incur other fees such as import tax, customs duties etc. These fees will be distributed evenly based on the amount of chips purchased. Once spread out amongst everyone, it is not expected that these fees will be very high.

      Assembly:

      • We are currently in conversations with manufacturers to determine the final costings on assembled boards. We will keep you updated as we lock down final pricing.
      • Each DrillBit board takes 16 Chips so consider how many mining boards you would like when purchasing chips and multiply this number by 16. For example, if you would like 4 DrillBit cards you will need to pay for 64 chips + 4 X the final price of each board
      • Likewise, final costing on a backplane for stacking more than 4 cards will be posted shortly.
      • All boards will be fully tested and guarenteed functional before being sent out.

      Payment

      • Payment for the chips is required immediately upon placing the order.
      • Payment for boards and assembly will be sorted out down the track and does not need to be paid up front. The only amount required up front is the payment for the chips.
      • If you desire to have your chips assembled into the DrillBit system, please let us know in your order how many boards and backplanes you will be wanting.
      • Only payments in BTC accepted for now, but we will be moving to accept $US through Paypal soon. Please PM me if you desire to make a payment is $US.
      • Shipping costs will be added to the final price, payable in one sum as we get closer to shipping the units out.
      • Processing of Chip and Miner orders will be done on a first in first served basis. The earlier you place your order with us, the earlier we will process your order and get your chips and miners to you.

      Shipping

Shipping prices to be updated shortly.

What do you guys think of these guys?

      https://www.cloudhashing.com

Offering 10Ghs starting in September. Is it in any way a good idea to jump on board? They claim a return of 50BTC for essentially 10BTC (to keep it easy) ... though if you pump the figures into coinish calc, it tells you tou will make about 2BTC profit over two years on its default mode. If you put in difficulty increases of 15% then its never.

Still... i'm tempted. Certainly not going to get an asic any time soon. Thoughts?

Someone talk me out of it. :-)

Does anyone out there have an accurate prediction of when the next difficulty rise might be and what it might go up to?
      7  Other / Beginners & Help / Merged Mining? on: June 05, 2013, 06:16:14 AM
Can anyone please explain to me the deal with merged mining? Bitminter.com says that they also mine Namecoins because they come at no extra effort. What is actually going on there? Is it just as profitable to mine both at the same time?

      Cheers

What do people think is going to happen to the price of LTC?

I know that is a big question, but just wondering what the opinions out there are?

Do you think that once ASICs take over BTC mining and everyone points their GPU mining rigs at LTC, this will make the price go up?

And will MTGOX adding LTC cause the price to go up also?

Is it sane thinking to bank on the idea that GPU mining rigs will still be profitable post ASICs by putting them over to LTC mining instead?

      Waddaya all reckon?

9  Other / Beginners & Help / GPUs vs Block Erupter USBs? on: June 05, 2013, 06:05:14 AM
      Hello.

So i am relatively new to the whole mining game. Coming in at an interesting point in the whole thing it seems. I currently have 4 7970s churning away. I'm looking to invest some more into mining and wondering what people think the wisest next purchase would be considering the imminent onset of the ASIC era. By my calculations, buying more GPUs will give me a higher Hash per dollar spent ratio, but then factoring in power, and ease of use etc, its seeming like getting some of the Block Erupter USBs might be a better choice at this point. I know they are not hugely exciting when compared to whats coming with the bigger units, but i do very much like that they are available now! ... A huge plus in my opinion. What do you guys think? More GPUs or Block Erupter USBs?
