1  Bitcoin / Electrum / Is there a way of avoiding unnecessary outputs due to fee rate adjustments? on: June 05, 2021, 10:40:25 PM
So I was trying to take advantage of today's low fee rate to spend all the bitcoins from some address without expecting any change but to my dismay, some small amount of change BTC was sent back to the address.

When creating the transaction, Under amount, I hit the max button, Clicked on pay and under the confirm transaction tab, I adjusted the fee rate and hit send. I didn't expect the transaction to have two outputs ( the address I was spending the BTC to and the address the change got sent to) as show in the screenshot

The small change was probably as a result of me adjusting the fee rate. Shouldn't the Max button be enough for Electrum to understand that I want to spend all the Bitcoins to the specified Bitcoin address?

Is there anyway around this (Avoiding unnecessary outputs due to fee adjustment)?
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Weird Bitcoin address (1111111111111111111114oLvT2) on: May 25, 2021, 07:58:35 PM
I bumped on a weird Bitcoin address today and when I checked it through Blockchair explorer (https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/address/1111111111111111111114oLvT2), I couldn't help but wonder what's going on. The address started receiving transactions from 2010 and It's still receiving them to this date. No out going transactions ever. The total number of BTC it has received so far is 197 Bitcoins. Almost every hour, People still keep sending the address BTC and it's not just dust amounts. We are talking about 0.004 - 0.006 BTC

So my questions are;
1. Is this Bitcoin address valid and do you think it has a private key?
2. How does one create such a bitcoin address if it's possible?
3. Why are people still sending Bitcoins to it, almost every hour? Is there any purpose of those incoming transactions?
3  Other / Meta / frodocooper nolonger a mod, what could have happened? on: May 24, 2021, 09:20:11 PM
Today I just noticed that frodocooper is not a moderator anymore.

frodocooper was one of the mods who had zero tolerance for spam in the mining board though some people complained about the board being over moderated which I can understand but I think his contribution was a net positive.

Why do you think he was removed?
Inactivity?
Personal request?
4  Economy / Exchanges / Does any one know what Line 1, Line 2 mean in an exchange/trading terminal? on: May 06, 2021, 12:41:29 AM
Some exchange apps or trading terminals display Line 1, Line 2, Line 3 right next to the orderbook or below it. Line 1 or 2  are followed by figures which I believe are Microseconds (ms) Like shown in the screenshot

Do anyone know the significance of those microseconds?
5  Economy / Trading Discussion / Is there a way to know if the next funding rate is going to be a plus or minus? on: April 23, 2021, 12:47:56 AM
I read somewhere that when the funding rate is positive, the Long position holders pay short position holders. Likewise, when the funding rate is negative, the short position holders pay long positions holders.

But I have never seen a negative funding rate being displayed anywhere in the platforms I have ever used to trade futures like Bitmex (well before KYC If my memory serves me well) and Bybit.

When you check out Bybit's BTCUSDT's funding rates history for the past few days, I
don't see any negative value - https://www.bybit.com/data/basic/linear/funding-history?symbol=BTCUSDT

Am I missing something?
6  Economy / Exchanges / How do members from the US trade crypto Futures? on: March 11, 2021, 11:13:23 PM
I did check a number of crypto exchanges that offer futures trading but to my surprise. All of them seemed not to offer futures trading to the US Citizens according to their Terms of service which kind of got me wondering.

How do people from the US trade crypto futures?
Are there some regulated platforms that I don't know that allow Futures trading for US traders (a part from the likes of Bybit that haven't yet started serious KYC enforcement on US traders of course)?
7  Economy / Trading Discussion / What is Auto Deleveraging (ADL)? on: December 28, 2020, 10:25:04 PM
Even since I started trading futures over a year ago, I have failed to understand what Auto Deleveraging (ADL) means. I have read a few blogs but can't quite understand what they are exactly trying to mean maybe because of the terminology used.

Can someone with experience and a much better understanding help me understand what ADL means in a layman language if possible?
Of what significance is it to a trader with an open position?
8  Bitcoin / Electrum / Electrum Mobile wallet's inaccurate mempool estimations on: December 06, 2020, 10:27:42 PM
I was trying to send out a transaction a few moments ago through my electrum mobile wallet but was surprised by the outcome. First tjhe suggested fee was 2 sats/byte for a transaction that would be 0.5 MB form the tip but upon broadcasting the transaction, The app is now showing me something completely different. The transaction is now at 13.91 MB from the tip as suggested by the app  Shocked

when i tried to bump the fee, the app is still suggesting that a transaction of 2 sats/byte would be 0.5 MB from the tip

9  Economy / Trading Discussion / What's your experience trading cryptos vs trading Stocks/Forex on: November 24, 2020, 08:18:08 PM
I have never had any experience trading in stocks or forex markets which kind of makes me curious on how the trading experience is as compared to crypto markets. I do have a few things i want to know

1. Is it easy setting up trading accounts in forex and stock exchanges like it is with crypto exchanges?
2. Do stocks and forex markets experience manipulations like it is with crypto markets at times?
3. Which of the 3(Crypto, Forex or stocks) can a trader easily make profits/loses?

I hope we do have people here with some past stock or forex trading experience  Wink
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Stone Ridge joins growing list of companies acquiring BTC, bought 10,000 BTC. on: October 13, 2020, 10:23:22 PM
Still thinking about buying bitcoins later or waiting for the next bull run before you buy?
Well, be on the watch or you will miss the train  Cheesy

Stone Ridge is just one of the latest public companies to come out and announce that they have invested some money in Bitcoin. As it has been seen with other companies that have already invested by buying huge amounts of Bitcoin such as Microstrategy Inc, Grayscale Bitcoin Trust, Square Inc. and many more. It's quite evident that the trend is growing as more players as starting to use bitcoin as a form of investment or asset to store value

According to coindesk
Quote
  • Stone Ridge Holdings Group is stashing 10,000 BTC with the institutional asset managerís crypto subsidiary NYDIG, which on Tuesday announced it raised an additional $50 million in funding
  • Stone Ridge called Its $114M in Bitcoin Ďa Primary Treasury Reserve Assetí

What do you think about the current trend?
Will it help improve on how the rest of the world perceives about bitcoin?
11  Economy / Service Discussion / 75 Crypto Exchanges have shut down since this year started and hasn't even ended on: October 07, 2020, 10:52:33 AM
Thinking about leaving those hard-earned BTCitcoins of yours in an exchange wallet as way of;

- Storing or Holding them in there?
- Staking and Lending them out through the exchange?

Well, think again. According to Cryptowisser Exchange Graveyard, in this year alone 75 cryptocurrency exchanges have been shutdown and the year is yet to end. Who knows how many more will shut down. As of today, that's One exchange getting closed down every 3.75 Days on average.

Cointeleghaph cites that;
  • Five of the exchanges were labelled as scams while four including Altsbit, and Nerae, were flagged as being hacked.
  • In total 31 were shut down voluntarily while 34 just disappeared with no explanation
  • Dutch exchange NLexch, and Chilean Chilebit were the only two flagged as being shut down by their respective governments in 2020

The Major reasons for the shut-downs have been blamed on;
1. Scams
2. The growing regulatory pressure, so other exchanges just decided to shut down voluntarily
3. Exchange hacks
4. The resurrection of decentralized exchanges this year due to the DeFi hype

In the light of this, I would like to echo that it's everyone's responsibility to make sure you never use an exchange as a wallet for holding their bitcoins or other coins. Chances are high that you will wake up tomorrow and the custodian of your funds is no longer operating. It doesn't matter how big or popular the exchange is. Anything can happen.

Use Noncustodial or better still, Hardware wallets to hold your funds

12  Other / Meta / Development & Technical Discussion board might be having a slight glitch. on: October 05, 2020, 10:52:40 PM
Unlike other boards and the child boards where one is able to see an overview of the name of latest member to make a post or a reply, at which time it was made and in which thread it has been made. This doesn't seem to be updated in the Development & Technical Discussion board

For example;

This is what you see when you refresh the homepage (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php)

But when you visit the board, there are some replies that have been made in the wallet software child board much later than this

Reply by hosseinimr93 Timestamp: Today at 10:34:11 PM

Reply by Miaallen Timestamp: Today at 09:29:28 PM

So I would expect hosseinimr93's reply to appear in the overview page as the latest instead of Miaallen's just like it happens in other boards and child boards.
13  Bitcoin / Electrum / Any solution to this problem - Failed to execute script run_electrum? on: October 05, 2020, 10:16:23 PM

15  Other / Meta / Why did the forum stop supporting images from imgur's http links? on: September 16, 2020, 12:58:23 PM
Like title says I am just curious and would like to know why the bitcointalk.org image proxy is now showing the Invalid Image error on all image links from imgur that use http

In some posts i made over a year ago Like this one. The images were showing perfectly back then but they now show the Invalid Image error

The only thing i have to do is now go back and edit each and every image link I posted back then and replace http with https for the images to show again which will take time. Why doesn't the forum just accept images that use Http so long as the link is valid?

17  Bitcoin / Electrum / Newbies are still losing BTC due to an old vulnarability on: July 28, 2020, 08:57:54 PM
I have just seen another newbie who seems to having fallen for that old electrum phishing vulnerability. Shouldn't the team be doing more than just warning users not to download or use the older versions that are vulnerable to the attack?

How about?
1. Making the older versions of electrum that are vulnerable to the attack obsolete or unusable for transactions until users are forced to get the more secure newer versions?
2. Make the download links of the older vulnerable versions inaccessible.

Newbies are newbies. Most even probably don't know that there is such a vulnerability in the older versions of Electrum. I think they need a little more protection from the attack.
18  Economy / Reputation / A Farm of High Ranking accounts abusing Sig. Campaigns - Ban Evasion. on: May 22, 2020, 09:07:08 PM
The farm has been abusing signature campaigns and bounties. Most are high ranking accounts and some even have green trust which means they can easily be used to scam members. Some have been already banned, so we can use the ban evasion rule to get the rest banned.

19  Other / Meta / Report Profile to Moderator, What is the reason why we still don't have this? on: May 18, 2020, 10:30:32 PM
Reporting members who have been breaking rules like Ban evasion among other offense is quite challenging.
This thread for example has some profiles that have been discovered to evade bans with all proof presented but they are still a large which mean Mods probably don't look through.

Why doesn't admin add a "Report Profile to Moderator" link on profiles so that it's easy to pick up a specific profile and report it along side with the evidence presented.
