1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Does brand matter when it comes to vega 56/64 ? on: October 27, 2017, 01:21:46 PM
someone posted on the vega hashrate mining thread that sapphire v56 has some minor issues?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2002025.msg23601866#msg23601866
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / is there a difference between various brands of vega 56/64? on: October 25, 2017, 04:33:49 PM
I mean, for rx580, I know some prefer sapphire or msi because they tend to have slightly higher hashrate (after bios mod) than other brands.

if there isn't a obvious difference in hashing power, I'll go for the cheapest ones
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / vega64 hashrates plunged for no reason? Please help on: October 19, 2017, 03:25:07 PM
I'm experiencing some weird problems with vega64 and the registry mod (https://www.reddit.com/r/MoneroMining/comments/74hjqn/monero_and_vega_the_definitive_guide/) I used the 1100mhz registry mod for a while now and every 2 days or so, there are large areas of artifacts that appear on the screen but it only appears on 1 window/software. If the window is minimized then maximised, the artifacts disappear.

Did some research and I realised I should have kept my HBM temps low but I kept focusing on the core temps instead. So I set the fan speed to a min of 3000rpm as per the link. even then, sometimes it is hard to keep temps below 82-84degC.

The gpu clock was lowered to 1220mhz instead of the usual 1400+

then things started to get weird over the last 2 days.

1. all the status leds which should have lit up since they were under load but only 1 led lit up despite the card hashing away. then i noticed every now and then, rest of the leds started flashing as if the gpu load was rapidly changing between 0 and 100%

2. a few hours ago, the temps became slightly lower at 72-77degC despite the hashrates remaining at 42-44mhs ( I was watching some videos on the same pc)

3. hashrates started to half, at 22mhs and temps were much lower, about 44degC.  Restarting the pc didn't help, reapplying the registry patch didnt work. cleaned out and reinstalled the drivers didn't work either.

but the mem clock speed was set to 945mhz for some reason and it was hashing at 40+mhs? but when I raised the mem speed to 1100mhz, the hashrate dropped to 21mhs?
and now the status leds work fine!

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / random blank green screen and high power draw? on: August 23, 2017, 02:28:22 PM
I am running 5x gigabyte rx580 aorus at stock speeds 1340/2000 iirc on a 1250w psu.

every few hours i get a random blank green screen of death. i have no idea what happened before the green screen appeared as the automatic screen off timer would have kicked in.

Also I noticed even though i am running just 5 cards, the power draw on the wall plug is 1310-1320w? isn't that too high?

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / biostar tb250 pro cannot detect 2 or moe graphics cards?! on: August 23, 2017, 04:50:52 AM
It seems my biostar tb250 btc pro cannot detect 2 or more graphics cards no matter which pcie slot I use. I've tried using just 2 or 3 graphcs card, the rest of the cards are completely disconnected.
graphics card: gigabyte aorus rx580 8gb
psu: seasonic x1250 gold.

Currently i have 3 graphics card installed and bios pcie lanes info says there are only 2 cards are present (_1 and _2) but windows and gpuz does not detect the 2nd card

I am using a fresh installation of windows 10 pro. I've also tried flashing the bios but the file type i got from the website ends with .bss but the bios screen tells me there is no bios file found in the thumbdrive.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / can someone help me double check my config and epool settings? on: August 13, 2017, 08:23:50 AM
I've never done eth mining before so please help me out?

7  Economy / Service Discussion / how long does it take for bitstamp to process international wire transfers? on: February 12, 2014, 10:09:06 AM
right now the status is "waiting to be processed" for more than a day

8  Economy / Trading Discussion / bitstamp facing some sort of algo strike? on: November 07, 2013, 10:21:37 AM
not sure what to call it

algo trades, or algo strikes

its where the prices rapidly crash/spike a few dollars and from the main page, a quick succession of trades, usually below 0.10btc, gets filled.

prices then recover back before it happens again.

it is not due to 1 guy selling a large order and bitstamp fills it at any price it can right?
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / transactions from multibit not seen despite waiting for 4hrs + on: September 23, 2013, 03:29:09 PM

10  Bitcoin / Hardware / Please help: avalon batch 1 keeps shutting down for no reason. on: September 18, 2013, 02:12:38 AM
been having some problems with my avalon of late

at first i was running the older firmware 20130721 then it suddenly keeps shutting down or rebooting for no reason.

so i updated to the latest firmware 20130803? and the problem goes away for a week or so

this morning it happens again

initially i was thinking it needs a shutdown every 1-2 days as it has been running for days on end, except for reboots when a fan speed setting is changed or miner pool switching.

shutdown #1

I've been watching the status page and it showed no temp spikes or fan speed spikes before the shutdown happens.
[/code]

I've isolated the problem to the 4th module (it has been mining for 25mins with no issues, will continue to monitor) which was added to the unit by the seller after 1 of his batch 1 3-module avalon had problems with the pdu or controller.

is there anything out of the ordinary with these 2 pics?

11  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / So..what is life for asic after bitcoin? on: September 15, 2013, 02:23:46 PM
according to a miner profitability chart i use (works nicely for me so far)

in feb 2014, it will no longer be profitable to mine for bitcoins as power coins will outstrip any bitcoins mined. even if price of bitcoins go up, I can extend it for 1  maybe 2 mths.

right now i am considering whether should I buy watercooling blocks (custom so cost is not recoverable) and associated parts (which i can sell/re-use to recover part of costs) or host it at a co-location and dont go for watercooling (remain on stock cooling)

based on the best offers I have on hand, costs of hosting it for 6mths and running it at home for that long (power+watercooling+cooling costs)  are the same..

the difference is, after 6 mths, the hosting costs is recurring, it will cost me $x every month whereas if i host it at home, the watercooling parts are one-off deal.  so the monthly costs is less than $X

My question is, what can the avalon do after bitcoin is no longer profitable? what can i use to mine or sell it to someone to run sha-256 based programs?

13  Economy / Service Discussion / unexplained bitcoin transactions... on: September 11, 2013, 04:08:11 AM
https://blockchain.info/address/14r8kcWVPR8SXLZ65MjbjtHKcyRBiz5hQb

this address is my bitstamp wallet for my mining outputs, while i recognise the deposit into my account of 0.11170761 BTC I have no idea what is the withdrawal about?

this has been happening for quite sometime and i am really confused...
14  Bitcoin / Hardware / 4 Pwm fans for avalon batch1? on: September 10, 2013, 04:35:07 PM
There are 4 pwn slots and I was thinking of installing identical fans for the rear to have even push and pull fan

Though I don't see an entry for 4 fans on cgminer status page

My psu is mounted externally so no issue with it.
15  Bitcoin / Hardware / hashrate unexpectedly drops! damaged hash units? on: September 03, 2013, 03:49:28 PM
i have a 4 module batch 1 and by right it should be hashing at 100-120gh/s (MHSav and MHS5s) I made sure the heatsinks do not contact any capacitors or components

but sometime after my latest round of cooling mods (placing alu heatsinks on the square mosfets?) on the lower 3 modules (1st mode at the top is left alone)

the hashrate has dropped to around 85 to 104gh/s and my mhSav has dropped to 98500gh/s

I have a power meter attached to the power socket for this unit and it confirms the actual power draw has dropped from the usual 970-990Watts to as low as 770-940Watts

on the miner status pag, it still shows miner count 32, asic count 10. if there is a fault within the miners, does it reduce those numbers?
16  Economy / Service Discussion / any issues with non-american users/accounts of btc e? on: September 02, 2013, 04:11:38 PM
i heard US-based accounts have problems transferring money into btc-e

what about other countries?
17  Economy / Goods / WTS: Hot toys Iron Man Midas (iron man 3 Mark XXI) on: August 31, 2013, 04:46:01 PM
selling a BNIB, not yet opened iron man 3 (midas). it's still sealed in the plain cardboard box.

price will include DHL shipping to anywhere dhl is willing to ship.

it will not include the poster as it's delicate state means bigger/standalone packaging which means higher costs.
i will include the fan (just a plastic sheet to fan yourself) and the t shirt. the crumpled iron paper bag if you wish.

Shipping from outside the US.

Post your offers in bitcoins.

19  Bitcoin / Hardware / dimensions of avalon's heatsink don't tally between 2 sources? on: August 26, 2013, 02:21:17 PM
the 2 sources are yifu's design as hosted on github and er_lee's design for his waterblock design

I noticed quite a lot of differences, 1st, number of mounting holes. it seems yifu's design left out quite a number of them.

then I looked at er lee's design, but the position of the mounting holes don't tally at all. some are off by 1mm.

At first i relied on yifu's design but his plans are missing some data so if I should rely on er lee's plans for the missing data ( instead of directly using the positions, use the relative differences in positions.  in other words, if 1 hole is 5mm away from the next, use it as a guide and offset)

I really hope someone can help me out here.

Refer to the mounting holes at the 52.8mm mark for yifu's plans and 51.94mm for er lee's plans

20  Bitcoin / Hardware / Does avalon's power regulators and other components need active cooling? on: August 26, 2013, 01:27:09 PM
I'm referring to those components like mosfets, capacitors, etc need active cooling?
https://en.bitcoin.it/w/images/en/thumb/c/cb/Avalon-detail.JPG/800px-Avalon-detail.JPG

components to the left, above the asic chips itself

I was thinking whether should i route water channels in a waterblock over these components or just route somewhere near it and let rest of the waterblock conduct heat away from the components.

btw, does your "chokes" look something like this? rusted?
