1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / 10 QUICK ITEMS – IS IT A SECURITY? on: December 04, 2017, 02:26:54 PM
Note: this list is not comprehensive but hopefully it provides help to those who need an initial checklist. Feel free to add comments/additions underneath.

Six Questions With Yes/No Answers
Question 1: Are you distributing either directly or indirectly any profit you personally have made already? If yes you are selling a security. If no go to 2

Question 2: Is the product you are selling “backed” by any form of guarantee, collateral or promise that ensure the buyer is protected in the event something goes wrong? If yes you are selling a security. If no go to 3

Question 3: Is there a promise to pay the buyer anything, including interest, at some future date in time (an exchange of assets or a random gift does not count). If yes then there is a high chance you may be selling a security and you should seek legal advice immediately before carrying out any marketing. If no go to 4

Question 4: Is there in any way, either via voting or via income share or via other indirect influential means, any way in which the buyer could be assumed to own a share of personal influence over what he is purchasing? If yes then there is a high chance you may be selling a security and you should seek legal advice immediately before carrying out any marketing. If no go to 5

Question 5: Is there any mention at all of revenue, profit, income, equity, ownership or dividend in your marketing literature? If yes then there is a high chance you may be selling a security and you should seek legal advice immediately before carrying out any marketing. If no go to 6

Question 6: Does the product you are selling have any use case other than it being a store of value for the distribution of profit at a future event? If no then there is a high chance you may be selling a security and you should seek legal advice immediately before carrying out any marketing.

4 Core Criteria For Utility Token
•   It must be a “proof” of something (eg proof of work, proof of stake etc.)
•   It must have a function that is not related to profit share distribution
•   It must not represent anything other than its core function (e.g. a receipt must represent a receipt of purchase but once it represents a receipt of purchase that is tradeable on an exchange in lieu of a foreign security it is an ADR)
•   It must not carry entitlements such as votes or ownership rights or responsibilities

2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / ZURCOIN - POS/POW Hybrid? 14000%++ Rise in 2017 on: December 04, 2017, 07:34:20 AM
Contents of an internal memo from an investor in ZURCOIN (he works with the dev of ZURCOIN) - read into it what you like Smiley Could be interesting if this is to be a vintage POW turned into a POW-POS Blockchain with different mining consensus to the ones currently out there!

CMC entry: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/zurcoin/

Announcement (2013-Present): https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=391806.0

Highlights
*Since the involvement of the M0NK3Y community in ZURCOIN, all indicators are up thousands of percent
*The average daily volume of the coin is up 88,648% from $37 to $33,000 average
*The average opening, high and closing price are up over 1200% and the the average low is up over 1100%
*Following the same line ZUR should hit $90.6m market cap by Dec 2018 (90c/ZUR) with volumes rising to $12m daily

White Paper Title: Making Work Fungible With Stake
Headline Points
•   The best example of POW around is Bitcoin; perhaps the best example of POS is Peercoin. Both are the first-of-their-kind assets. In the past 3-year period, bitcoin has risen around 2100% while Peercoin is up about 170% by comparison. Clearly, by making increases in supply so readily available so easily to holders of the coin, POS Blockchains ultimately undermine the value exponent of the utility factor in the coin.
•   ZURCOIN is a POW coin that has laid dormant for 4 years; after it was purchased in August over a period of around a week by a single purchaser with approximately $250,000 in funds, and by other buyers following suit, the coin came to be actively-traded and showed regular trading volumes
•   Despite the relative value erosion that wallet mining can cost a coin, there are certain advantages to it. POS mining is more efficient and it is also cleaner and easier for the user than POW mining since it takes place while the coin is stored inside a Blockchain wallet.
•   By converting ZURCOIN’s Blockchain into a combined POW/POS Blockchain the coin will achieve scale dominance at the same time as retaining its value during the second act of the coin’s growth trajectory, which is set to be very large.
•   The effect of a higher probability of use cases for ZURCOIN will make it more attractive to ICOs looking for funding as well as to miners who are seeking to profit from higher prices as a result of the coin’s more widespread use
•   Zucoin.org (under dev) will actively solicit and encourage ICOs to accept ZURCOIN as payment for the tokens. This will result in a positive feedback loop whereby a higher number of POS wallet miners will do so so that they can switch the currency at any of the gateways that offer ZUR-ZUS conversions (M0N3X will be the first of such gateways to offer this service, initially on a 1-for-1 basis for around 3% fees always received in ZURCOIN on the transaction regardless of the two is being bought or sold)
•   Despite the huge rise in the price of Bitcoin, there are signs that it may become less appealing to investors as an asset to be held in any quantity largely because of the deflationary tendency of the coin. As Bitcoin begins to deflate in increase of supply, so its price begins to rise at an exorbitant rate. The problem with this is that it has the net effect of exporting inflation onto the rest of the Cryptocurrency landscape. This is because while a high Bitcoin price is attractive for those holding presently who wish to sell, it is significantly more expensive to buy in any whole (or even for some, standard fractional) quantity. Multi-fractional purchases are not appealing psychologically to buyers either. Thus, we believe that ZURCOINS POW-POS fungible Blockchain may be the answer to the polar opposite, but equally problematic isses that Bitcoin and Peercoin suffer from.
•   In the case of ZURCOIN, following the trajectory of both Bitcoin and Peercoin would have resulted in a 1200% price rise over the last 3 years; these are standard high returns looked for by Crypto investors. Therefore we see this fungible dual-currency scenario as being a potential solution to overly-aggressive value return and overly-aggressive value erosion see in POW-POS assets.
•   If ZURCOIN was to rise by the the same amount next year as for the last 6 months, we would be looking at a $400 price per ZUR.
•   As with many vintage Cryptos, much of the supply is buried in long-forgotten wallets, producing an artificially lower supply quota than that advertised on Coin Market Cap. This will push the price tremendously now buyers have come to seek out the coin.

4  Economy / Exchanges / Vault of Satoshi - No Last Withdrawals since officially closed on: February 17, 2015, 03:23:35 PM
Vault of Satoshi was a Canadian bitcoin exchange of which I was using on a regular basis.

They announced a couple of months ago that as of Feb 5th 2014 they would be closing down.

I initiated my last cash withdrawal with them a few days before they officially were closing. I have not yet received this withdrawal (2 weeks+). All the phone numbers they had listed are now disconnected. They are not answering support emails even after waiting their 1-2 weeks advertised time frame for support answers.

Is anyone else in this situation with them?

10  Economy / Service Discussion / WARNING ABOUT CRYPTSY on: September 02, 2014, 03:00:39 PM
I want to warn people about Cryptsy.com. I have been having major problems with them and I am not the only one. For over 4 days now I have not been able to make withdrawals of BTCD coins. They get stuck pending. When I contact support I get simple mail saying we are having some issues and there could be some delays. After trying to get more info on chat room I keep getting some users who accuse me of creating FUD about cryptsy. Funny enough I tried to make smaller withdrawals (5-20 coins) of btcd and those get processed right away, until I reached a total of 55 coins then even 25 coin request gets stuck pending. I then went back to chat and stated this including a remark that said " be very careful about cryptsy this brings back flashback of MTGOX " within seconds I get banned from chat for 1 year!!! One thing for sure I am not trying to spread FUD but I do want to let people now what is going on because cryptsy is being everything BUT transparent which is very troubling when you have funds stuck there and can't get them out for days on end. I don't know if this is just plain POOR customer support and there are true technical issues (for quite some time now) or if there are underlying financial issues...all I know is when I made some noise about it I get BANNED from letting people what is going on.

Copy of part of a chat session where I got banned:

I am still having major problems with BTCD

@bitdigger2013361: be careful doing a bunch of small withdrawals one after another. You may notice that coins get Double Spent... Keep Track.

NOTE: Old BTC wallet is now operational again and if you have a pending deposit or withdrawal it should process shortly

11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / KNCminer Titan Batch 1 pre-orders getting the short end of the stick? on: June 03, 2014, 09:50:32 PM
Starting this thread because I am one of probably many disappointed batch 1 Titan buyers that just found out KNCminer is offering a Batch 2 for $3K less and 33% more hashing power. All this before even Batch 1 units are built. They don't seem to want to clarify if Batch 1 will also get the upgrade.

One tweet from KNC says:

KNC Miner ‏@kncminer 5h

@ballance Guaranteed MH/s is still 150/300 for Batch 1 of the Titan Mini/Standard.

Second tweet from KNC Says:

Robert J Molnar ‏@RobMolnar 2h

@kncminer im assuming first batch Titan are also at 400mhs? #dontgetscrewy
Details

KNC Miner ‏@kncminer

@RobMolnar We're working on it, so it's likely yes. The 300 MH/s hashing speed is a safe indicator, not the actual performance delivered./NB

Confused & disappointed with this update. Why would any company screw over its batch 1 buyers when they can reward them and show others who didn't buy into a first batch that they should next time. If this stays as it is with batch 1 @ 300mhs I would never buy a batch 1 unit from KNC ever again.

19  Other / Beginners & Help / How to get USD in BTC-e on: July 01, 2013, 03:08:18 PM
Hi,

Well I have tried to offer to buy BTC-e Codes in the Currency Exchange sub forum (no success).

I have tried to deposit USD in BTC-e looking at all the available deposit methods they list (ex. Okpay Perfect Money etc.) none seem to work without using exchangers and they charge crazy fees and don't even think can be done from my location.

Can anyone help with the cheapest and most efficient method to get USD into BTC-e?

I am located in Canada.
