1  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / In the last hour we are averaging 1 block every 2 minutes. on: June 21, 2014, 03:12:39 PM
this could either be luck, or something else...  either way, ive never seen anything like it.
seatbelts please..
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Theory on Ghash situation. price manipulation. on: June 16, 2014, 11:02:49 PM
i've always thought ghash was a great pool and still is.  the strangest thing about this whole situation is the contradiction between their previous interview (against 51%) and then of course their actions that followed. making me think it was simply some corruption happening deep within management. i probably dont have enough evidence {hence why its a theory} but the biggest clue is the btc price. when they passed 50% there was a large drop and then it seemed there was a very large amount of bidding and bullish movement right before they pulled a portion of their hash power out of the pool. if this was simple price manipulation it was a great move but you would think it would damage their business more than anything, which is why i think it was out of the interest of a single or small handful of individuals with ulterior motives and of course going against what the public wanted them to do (keeping the network decentralized). in the end i applaud ghash because it could possibly give the dev team a reality check while its still early in the game. keeps them on their feet.  thoughts?
3  Bitcoin / Mining / Confirmation time has dropped from 10 minutes to 6 minutes on: June 04, 2014, 12:01:46 AM

Anyone know why this started happening in April?  I thought the difficulty adjustments are supposed to keep it at 10?

4  Economy / Service Discussion / I was looking forward to using BTC-E as an alternative to Bitstamp on: May 28, 2014, 07:34:39 PM
But then I realized their service is simply fucked.

I wanted to get some two-factor security, so I clicked on security.  Even though I have english selected, I see Russian.  Okay, whatever.. I copy/paste it all into a translator and keep going.  I scan their barcode with google auth on my iPhone, and it says its an invalid barcode.  What gives?  If this is supposed to be the solution as an alternative to the BS going on with Bitstamp, I'm afraid Bitcoin is doomed.  This is all there is left?
5  Economy / Service Discussion / BTER.COM deposits taking a long time? on: April 20, 2014, 05:32:39 AM
"Crypto-currencies are credited within 1 minute after accessing this page or "My funds" page and only after 1 confirmations of the transaction in the network. "

I'm not sure why they advertise this false fact on their deposit page.  It obviously takes much longer than that.  I'm at 30 confirmations now.
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Interesting way to manipulate the difficulty? on: April 17, 2014, 03:30:42 PM
If everyone agrees to turn off their miners right before a difficulty change.. they could fake a lower network hash rate!
In fact I believe this is what has been happening with a few big players..the network hash rate always seems to drop right before a change and this makes mining [temporarily] more profitable.
I don't think this would benefit someone with a small amount of hash power, but a big player like myself might benefit from unplugging a couple hours before the change.  i'll have to simulate this and see if its worth it.   Kiss brb k

edit: actually come to think of it, any gains from this technique should be wiped out by a counter affect from the following difficulty change... UNLESS it is pushed down EVERY time.  There would be an accumulation of network hash power that is always hidden from the difficulty changes... could this be why there is an "up and down" trend consistent with the time of the changes?

I could see how this could cause a problem for the network if everyone decided to manipulate it this way.. We would basically be producing bitcoins at a faster rate than intended by the system.  I guess the only side affect would be that the value of the bitcoin itself would go down (who cares, right?)

9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / New attack on the bitcoin network. on: April 06, 2014, 04:45:32 PM
Just look at the recent blocks solved.  Very few transactions are even making it through right now because of it.
Of course they picked a Sunday to do this, when nobody is around to fix this BS.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / We should be able to add fees after the transaction on: April 02, 2014, 03:41:10 PM
This would be good for everybody if it was possible.  You make a transaction, only to realize "oh shit, my transaction fee was too low".
Wouldn't it be nice if you could add the fee afterwards?  This way you could push your transaction through faster and give it higher priority.  I bet if this were possible, transaction fees would instantly double just from people being impatient.  Miners would be very happy..

Unfortunately with the way bitcoin works, this seems impossible to actually implement.

12  Economy / Securities / Kslaughter shutting down his website for 24 hours due to a "fake order" on: March 29, 2014, 09:33:11 PM
This gets deleted so I'll post it here:

Anybody with half a brain running a website can easily avoid BTC "troll orders".  You simply allow the first confirmed transaction on the blockchain to become the filled order.  If there is excess bitcoin coming in after selling out, you simply refund the amount to the people who are late.  It's not rocket science.  The fact he thinks he has to shut down his entire website for 24 hours when this happens just blows my mind.  Makes me want to put in some troll orders too just to be a prick.
13  Economy / Service Discussion / Is Blockchain.info proving to be completely incompetent? on: March 20, 2014, 01:20:21 AM
Transactions are still taking forever to show a single confirmation, while other block services are showing 6+ confirmations.

I think it is time to realize that if a leading service can't provide a solution to their problems in such an amount of time, then we need to start burning them to the ground because they are no longer competent enough to handle such a responsibility.
Bitcoin business is suffering, especially those who depend on APIs with blockchain.info.
There is no mention of these recent confirmation bugs anywhere on their site, and they seem to be whistling away as if its business as usual.

It is time to take a stance.  We don't put up with bullshit.  Let's boycott blockchain.info and show stronger support for alternative sites.

14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / There is something that just doesn't seem fair about the mining system on: March 10, 2014, 04:00:55 AM

Tell me how that deserves a 25BTC reward... I think the reward system should be based on more than just pure luck.  Like... i dont know.. actual workmanship?

edit: perhaps actual ACCOMPLISHMENT is what I should have said.  What makes these transactions so special that they were this expensive on the system..

16  Other / Off-topic / Rockwell 5TH/s Bitcoin Miner on: January 24, 2014, 02:47:40 PM

Here at Rockwell Automation's world headquarters, research has been proceeding to develop a line of automation products that establishes new standards for quality, technological leadership, and operating excellence. With customer success as our primary focus, work has been proceeding on the crudely conceived idea of an instrument that would not only provide inverse reactive current for use in unilateral phase detractors, but would also be capable of automatically synchronizing cardinal grammeters.

Now basically the only new principle involved is that instead of power being generated by the relative motion of conductors and fluxes, it's produced by the modial interaction of magneto reluctance and capacitive duractance. The original machine had a base plate of pre-famulated amulite surmounted by a malleable logarithmic casing in such a way that the two spurving bearings ran in a direct line with the panametric fan.

The line-up consisted simply of six hydrocoptic marzul vanes so fitted to the ambaphascient lunar wain shaft that side fumbling was effectively prevented. The main winding was of the normal lotus-odeltoid type placed in panendurmic semi-bulloid slots of the stator, every seventh conductor being connected by a non-reversible tremmy pipe to the differential girdle spring on the up-end of the grammeters.

Moreover, whenever fluorescent skor motion is required, it may also be employed in conjunction with the drawn reciprocation dingle arm, to reduce sinusoidal depleneration.

The retro-encabulator has now reached a high level of development, and it’s being successfully used in the operation of Milford trunnions. It's available soon, wherever Rockwell Automation products are being sold.

19  Economy / Digital goods / [WTB] Extremely Simple Visual Basic application. on: December 20, 2013, 04:57:09 AM
I want this done in VB because then I have the ability to edit it as I need.

It starts with an SQL database that I am currently setting up through Godaddy (perhaps you can advise me if there is a better SQL host, I am having trouble accessing it remotely).
There will be a group of values assigned to each "user".

ex.
User 1      value1:       value2:         value3:       value4:

What I want is an executable file that the user opens up and displays on their desktop.
When they input their username, it will display these values in the window that match up to their username in the database.  It will update them constantly by maintaining communication with the SQL through their internet connection..

The only way for these values in the SQL database to change is for me to edit them as an administrator, with the exception of 1 value

I want this application so simple that a monkey can use it.

Please send me your quote if you are able to do this.

20  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / I would like to create the most basic client on: December 19, 2013, 11:21:47 PM
I want to make a simple program (bitcoin related) which "fetches" information from a data file on a web hosting account of mine.
It searches values from say, a .txt file, and then displays that information on the screen to the user.  This .txt file would contain information such as  prices and statistics which I would update on a daily basis. This program would be opened from an executable file on the users computer, so I am not trying to integrate it into a browser or anything..

What is the best way to do this for someone with very limited programming experience?  I used to do very simple things with basic / visual basic many many years ago and I realize the need to educate myself again on some very basic things.

What I am asking for, however, is which direction to go in.  Can I accomplish this sort of thing with visual basic?  Should I learn SQL?
