1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Which payment card solutions do you invest in? on: September 11, 2017, 11:00:47 AM
I tried to research some payment card projects and would be interested in your opinion. If I forgot some legit projects, I would be happy if you suggest them to me.

- Proxy Card (PRXY)
- Monaco (MCO)
- TenX (PAY)
- Token Card (TKN)
- Plutus (PLU)
- BlockPay (BLOCKPAY)

I am personally interested in Proxy Card, because the NFC solution is innovative and more useful than normal credit cards imho.

BlockPay is dead, because one of the founders ran away with a lot of tokens.

Proxy Card seems legit. There will be an upcoming token sale in the next time. Team is extremely motivated and not focused on profit. I think they really try to deliver a great product. Have a look at their latest video, where they introduce their product: https://www.facebook.com/CardProxy/videos

Plutus also has many interesting and high skilled team members and i they deliver, this could be huge and price should rise a lot. Team seems to be working hard behind the scences: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1521838.msg20868828#msg20868828

TenX, Monaco and Token Card went too well for me in the last weeks, so not investing here.

PLU and Proxy Card need still to be dicovered by the Market Makers imho. What other payment solutions are you currently watching? Feel free to join this discussion.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Got $3500 GAW Miners credit, what should I buy? on: September 29, 2014, 03:54:10 PM
Hey all...

I have some credit at GAW Miners ($3500) - What's the best "bang for your buck" miner I should buy there?

Should I buy the hashlet? Mine sha256? mine scrypt?

Been out of mining for a while... so I'd like to see everyone's opinions to help with my decision making process.

Thanks!
3  Economy / Economics / (Poll) DOGECoin: Helping or hurting cryptocurrency? on: January 22, 2014, 01:46:51 PM
Surprised nobody brought this up yet, so I'll start things off.

If you haven't heard by now, DOGECoin has been one of the most profitable coins to mine, if you own GPU-based miners. The return is crazy high. A person with dual HD5830's can get almost $300 USD a month.

Problem is, the market caps of other coins are shrinking. Not by a little either.

Thoughts?

Hey everyone,

I see people with trust ratings like:

but when I look at my own trust rating it's

I have done a few successful trades on here, so why would my trust still be at zero?

Cheers.

8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Overstock.com's News on Accepting Bitcoin, Underwhelming Price Boost. on: January 10, 2014, 01:30:50 AM
As the title says, seems like people were expecting some lunar performance, but got some down-to-earth performance.

Do you think that Overstock.com's acceptance was a significant thing for the price of bitcoin? If yes, let us know.

12  Economy / Speculation / We're WAY too CONFIDENT about the current BTC Price. See picture in topic. on: November 09, 2013, 05:37:05 AM
Here's the char for the last running 12 months... ending with this month so far:

I'd like to point out the bubble that burst back in april. It didn't just fall from $266 to $200... it literally tanked. Now I'd like to draw your attention to the right side of this chart... see something similar?

Yep. If you're dealt with bitcoins for a long time, you'll know that history has repeated itself in the past with bitcoin (Remember the first time it hit $28?? haha.. yeah we were all shocked.)

Anyway, be very very very careful.
13  Economy / Speculation / Tired of the $300 mark. on: November 07, 2013, 08:16:09 PM
Getting tired of the $300 mark, anyone else?

It should go to $500... asap. lol
14  Other / Meta / (PETITION) The act of BUYING/SELLING Bitcointalk.org Accounts (Poll) on: November 05, 2013, 03:10:15 AM
Hey everyone this is a two part post for META:

This is something I feel needs to be addressed more closely.

*** PART 1 ***
The Poll
************

This poll is something to get a general feel for how the community feels about account buying and selling on bitcointalk. If you hate the idea of people buying/selling accounts here, please read part 2 below. If you support the idea of buying/selling accounts, please feel free to comment, and vote.

*** PART 2 ***
The Petition
************

Personally, I think selling accounts for any site is wrong because you don't own the account itself. Bitcointalk owns the account, and by selling accounts you're profiting off their work. It also gives new users a false sense of reputation which exposes members of our community at risk. It also allows companies that are new to the asic market snatch them up and start cross promoting illicitly. Creating multiple accounts en masse artificially raises the community size. Those are just a few reasons of many as to why account selling isn't good. I'm sure we could post more. If you agree with this, please feel free to 'sign' this petition.

*** PART 3 ***
The Updated Poll
************

So it's been noted that the poll options may need to be a bit clearer. So based on the feedback in this thread, I will restart the poll, however, if you want to see the OLD results, click here Old results were as of 12/30/2013.

The poll has been updated, and vote counter has been zero'd out to maintain fairness of the thread, and to every voter. If you have (or have not) already voted, please cast your vote. Thanks.

Cheers.
15  Economy / Speculation / Are you trading CAD on Cavirtex? (virtexCAD) Post your thoughts on current rate! on: October 22, 2013, 03:36:02 PM
Hello fellow Canadians and international folk that use Cavirtex.com,

First off, I'd like to mention that I don't work for them in any way, and this is a purely speculative thread.

Canada has a really, really stable bitcoin market in the sense that prices don't change that often, and trades happen once every 5 minutes or so.
The only time prices change rapidly is when there's breaking news, or major markets internationally change rapidly, then it seems like we follow suit.

I feel like the traders on virtex are super conservative (which is why there are trades every 5 minutes or so.. sometimes every 30 minutes to one hour.

Do you guys think we'll pass the $200 mark in CAD?

What are your thoughts on the whole Canadian bitcoin market at virtex? Where are we headed to? Any break-through? I'm interested to know what you guys think.

Cheers
16  Economy / Speculation / High Potential for Another 2 Flash Crashes (soon) Explained & How China Won on: October 09, 2013, 03:20:46 PM
Alright, I wanna throw these ideas out there for speculation.

First off, let's talk about the 2 potential flash market crashes (scenarios):

Scenario 1: The FBI/US Gov't sells off the Silk Road hot wallet funds they seized en masse. (Mass selling)

Right now they say that with the entire ordeal, 5% of the entire bitcoins in existence are missing. This means that the market has increased its prices to recoup the losses for the 5% of the market (volume).

Let's say that the FBI/US Gov't sells all their bitcoins, after all, it's free money to them right? Prices are expected to plummet sub-$100 (CAD) mark. This could happen literally any second. Be ultra ready. The chances of this happening could be everyone's dream/nightmare, depending on what side of the fence you're on. The potential for the market to recover is high though.

tl;dr: FBI seized lots of bitcoins, if they mass sell it, expect BTC price to drop below $100 CAD (massive drop in all currencies, essentially.) but will recover through its regular market corrections.

Scenario 2: DPR (operator of Silk Road) goes to have his bail hearing this Friday, and succeeds.

Ok, so this has quickly become a high profile case/trial. Dread Pirate Roberts is estimated to have around $80 million USD worth of bitcoin. Enough to hire the finest legal team money can buy. He knows it, his lawyers know it, and the FBI knows they have no access to it. In doing so, you can expect that to cover legal fees, he could utilize his private stash of bitcoins. He could very well like the FBI, sell a ton of bitcoins (similar to a pump and dump) big enough to cause panic sales, and the market would go down yet again. This can happen literally any time on or after this Friday. Be prepared for market changes.

Do expect that it will go back up. More news about that bail hearing is available here.

tl;dr: Former operator of silk road gets granted bail. Uses his private stash of bitcoins to hire super lawyers to reduce sentences.. bribe people.. etc. Flash crash due to excessive amounts of bitcoins sold from his private stash.

How China Won (or is winning)

In recent times, bitcoin has become something rapidly adopted in china. In fact, not only do most of the asic products come from there from companies that innovate it there.. but they are buying up bitcoin like crazy. Why? Because the chinese government could care less about bitcoin, and hiding their assets in bitcoin is a great way to protect their interests.

China has quickly become the second largest international bitcoin market (bitcoin charts) in terms of volume in a single exchange. They do not rely on sites like Silk Road, because if you're caught with drugs in china, you are subject a maximum of the death penalty. China has a very strict policy against drugs, and sites like Silk Road couldn't thrive very well there.

Whenever the markets in the west crash (thanks to SR, or other economic factors) people in china waste no time, and buy up our "yucky, stupid, cheap, low priced" bitcoins, and wait to sell it BACK to us at a much higher rate.

They are an economy that proves that  silk road is unnecessary for bitcoin to thrive. In the grand scheme of things, they were unaffected by the crash as a result of the non-dependancy.

tl;dr: China never had a real use for Silk Road as a mainstream backbone for their bitcoin economy. Therefore they had no reason to panic sell.

I'd love to have some ideas thrown around about this, but if you agree/disagree, either way, I'd like to know and if you could tell what your thoughts are too, that'd be great.

Thanks!

Ps.

If you use Twitter, I like to tweet interesting articles about things that affect bitcoin on a daily basis. Feel free to follow me: @maursader (http://www.twitter.com/maursader)

17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Dual 7970's hashrate issues on: July 13, 2013, 08:59:36 PM
Hey guys, I've just gotten these two new gigabyte 7970's and they're posting hash rates of around 600kh/s each. (See screenshot below)

I have configured other 7970's to be around the 720-750 mark in the past, but this is kind of underperforming for what I was expecting from the gigabytes.

In GPU-Z they show up as Radeon 7900 Series, and my GPU usage is 99% on both cards, not to mention the heat is around 86*C for GPU 0 and 78*C for GPU 1.

I have cleared the bin files as per this readme

cgminer says that my thread concurrency should be 22400 (as per what was selected and put in the bin filename)

Here's my .bat file

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
cgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://stratum.wemineftc.com:4444 -u maursader.1 -p x --shaders 2048 --intensity 13 --worksize 256 --thread-concurrency 22400 -g 1 --gpu-engine 1100 --gpu-memclock 1500 --auto-fan

Please let me know your thoughts, as this has been driving me up the wall! I removed the look up gap because I read that it sacrifices hashing power on the first GPU.

Cheers

Ps. For hardware, I've got a gigabyte am3 motherboard with the phenom x2 945 black edition, 12 GB DDR3, 750W antec power supply.. etc.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / We discuss the prospects of an LTC based FPGA. on: July 07, 2013, 06:21:12 PM
Personally, I'm very skeptical that this will ever happen, and if it does, we're looking at least 3 years.

Anyone have any opinions on LTC based FPGA's or Asics? Will it happen soon? Long time from now? Never?

This guy seems to think he can pull it off:

19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [POLL] Which Alternative Cryptocurrency Do You Day Trade? on: June 24, 2013, 01:08:27 AM
Serious discussion topic rules apply in this thread.

Instead of mining to make a profit, people may turn to day trading (trading coins in an exchange to turn a profit). Some coins have greater potential to generate a larger profit than others. I'd like to know your opinion if you day trade. Which alt currency would you trade and why?

If other, please specify.

Cheers!
20  Other / Beginners & Help / I have 22 BTC, should I spend it on LTC or FTC? on: June 17, 2013, 12:52:24 AM
In light of recent developments with feathercoin (FTC) it seems like they have made strides in security which in my opinion, would have better protection at getting 51'd now than before; protection which may or may not have been done for LTC yet.

When buying one or the other, I'm always concerned about which one has greater potential. I'm a pretty risky fella, but I wanted to take your ideas into consideration just to see where the community is at.

So the big question is:

I have 22 BTC: Do I buy Litecoins or Feathercoins with it?

Please discuss.
