Not available anymore.
2  Economy / Services / Open source project looking for devs (compensation budget around ~$300 in BTC) on: July 24, 2020, 10:55:52 AM
Hello,

I will just dive into it:

What is it?

OSP (Open Streaming Platform) is an open-source, self-hosted alternative to services such as Twitch.tv, Ustream.tv, Mixer, and Youtube Live.

So you can stream, upload videos, record broadcasts, clip videos, chat, comment and more. It can also support multiple streamers per community. It's still BETA though so there are bugs and performance issues.

Why?

This comes as a reaction to sustained censorship and privacy infringements imposed by mainstream media giants, in an effort to provide a viable alternative for people wanting to leave.

The vision is simple: small communities each self-hosting their own instance of OSP. They will be able to connect their instances to a hub for discoverability reasons, but it's optional. If the hub goes rogue and starts censoring, endless ads, draconic rules, you can simply unplug your community from the hub and you keep your community, the full database of both videos, recorded streams, clips and users. This is very unlike YT where you don't own any of your content and if banned you will lose your community.

How to help?

Since the project is open source and we are very short-handed in the dev department (we are mostly sysadmins), we need some help turning the software into a progressive web application: add to home screen, offline ready, mobile push notifications.

Expected behavior:

Code:
user browses the site on mobile > site prompts user to add to home screen > user subs to channel X > channel X goes live > app notifies user on mobile that channel X is live.

OSP's stack is Python/Flask/Nginx. So if you're familiar with those, version control (OSP is hosted on Gitlab), know how to write a service worker and love open source then you can probably contribute. For iOS we probably need to use a different solution since they don't support the push api afaik (maybe Firebase?).

Note that PR's should be submitted to the `nightly` branch and Deamos should approve them if they are to be accepted in the code base.

Budget

It's obviously limited as we have no fixed funding/grants, we are an open source project. Everything comes from community donations.

As stated in the title I can offer around $300 out of my pocket for this feature as I am a contributor and would like OSP to succeed. I really wish someone that shares our vision would work on this, not just for the money (it's peanuts as it is) but I also know that time is limited and should be compensated. I've wasted some of the budget on scammers asking for deposits unfortunately. If you wish we can use escrow, but I probably won't send you a deposit for obvious reasons.

So if you like the idea of OSP and would like to help just get in touch via one of the methods below:

Quote
* PM me here on the forum

* PM me to request a private chat on Tox.chat

* Add curldev#8562 on Discord for a chat

* Email curldev [at] protonmail.com

PS:

- curldev can provide assistance with debugging / setting up OSP locally or on a VPS so you can work on it, if you need any help with that.

- if you can help with only a part of what is required you can still get in touch, we always welcome new devs.

Cheers,
Uao
3  Economy / Services / Need a simple website + custom logo designed? All-in-one, 100% free? Check. on: December 23, 2018, 04:44:22 AM
Hello dear crypto community,

Uao here, with a holiday gift for (some of) you!

I will design a few simple websites for projects that sound interesting to me. All pro-bono, free.

Included:
- minimalist website, one page, optimized for speed & seo, fully responsive, clear cta, email form functionality
- custom logo, per your specs, your copyright
- website deployment & hosting
- technical assistance, dns config, etc

Excluded (don't ask me for):
- annoying pop-ups
- old tables
- carousels/sliders
- shady scripts
- other stuff that slow the site down

Post your project ideas here in the following format:
Quote
1. What is the website/project about? Be specific.
2. Do you already have a domain name registered?
3. Do you need the full package? (ie. website + logo + deployment/tech assistance)

Everyone is welcome to participate, however I reserve the right to choose whatever project I want.

Note: PM me if you want to discuss a private project.

Here's to a bullish 2019!

Love,
Uao

---

Hello world!

I'm Uao and I will be designing professional logos & graphics for some of your startups, blockchain businesses, ICO's, orgs, YouTube channels (and even forum avatars).

Options:

- pro bono projects, effectively for free.
- paid projects.

What?

- unique graphics, designed from scratch, per your specifications (without using any premade graphics or templates)
- exclusively designed for you (your business/or personal brand)
- you can use it anywhere in commercial or non-commercial projects (your full copyright)
- you can print it on anything (use it offline with the files we provide)
- delivery of any resolutions and files you might need, including the source vector file

How?

In order to apply for a design project, please post your specifications in this thread by answering the following:

#1 - What type of graphics do you need?
(ie. logo design/infographics/ANN or promotion thread design/branding/etc)
#2 - What text should be present in the design?
(your business name/website/org/forum name; ie. "SatoshiN98" or "Myowncoin.com")
#3 - Describe your business/brand/org/ICO/yourself in exactly one single word
(ie. "innovation")
#4 - What's your logo idea in exactly one sentence?
(could also be an image/sketch/existing logo that you like, for reference)
#5 - Are there any pre-existing brand colors or preferred colors that should be present in the logo?
(ie. blue & white, or leave it to the designer to choose)
#6 - (optional) What's your (business) vision or motto?
#7 - (optional) Preferred design style: A. Font-based B. Symbol/Icon-based C. Mascot?

Example of an ACCEPTABLE post:

Quote
#1 - Logo design only
#2 - GatorCoin
#3 - Innovation
#4 - A coin with an alligator head on it
#5 - Green & black
#6 - Saving animals with blockchain tech
#7 - B. Symbol/Icon-based

Why?

- it's nice to give back to the community (long-time forum lurker myself)
- you CAN pay with crypto / Bitcoin for logo design services (what better way to showcase design skills)
- we can potentially make a difference in design quality standards (crypto businesses) which in turn might lead to increased adoption
- can't say no to a challenge really, love to buidl

Clients

Here are a few past clients:

Notes

- Posting your design specifications early in the thread does not mean your logo will be designed and I may or may not select to work on projects in chronological order.
- This is a limited promotion and work may stop at any point so there is no guarantee I will design your logo for free.
- Not posting your design specifications in the format specified in this post will probably mean I ignore your post.

Love,
Uao  Wink

6  Other / Beginners & Help / What's the most secure 'workflow' when looking to invest in several coins? on: November 21, 2017, 01:37:12 PM
I'm leaning towards the paper wallet method but I'm not exactly sure of the steps I need to reiterate whenever I purchase and spend my crypto in order to remain secure all the way.

I've read at least a dozen blog posts and watched a ton of videos. It seems to me that under .5% of users are interested in security and investment workflows.

Everyone is discussing TYPES of wallets, cold vs hot, hardware vs software, etc -- but no one is discussing how to use that in the real world.

Here's an example scenario:

Assuming that I want to invest in ETH, ETC, XMR, XLM and MIOTA.

#0 Download the ETH wallet and generate an address on an online machine (so this will be used to purchase all other coins).

Side Q: How to anonymously purchase ETH using fiat?

#1 Download the paper wallets for each of those coins from the respective websites.

#2 Put them on a USB stick.

#3 Generate addresses for each on the offline machine.

#4 Use a service like shapeshift to convert ETH to the other coins that I want to invest in.

Side Q: What are some alternatives? If shapeshifting is not an option. Exchanges?

Development: I now consider XLM no longer a viable investment and I need to move funds out of that and invest in LSK.

#5 ...?

Could anyone chime in and assist me in attempting to pin down a viable workflow?

PS: For reference, this is my last topic in the Altcoins section, but that received very few helpful replies https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2433697

7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / How to safely invest and store different coins long-term? on: November 20, 2017, 10:08:47 PM
I'm leaning towards the paper wallet method but I'm not exactly sure of the steps I need to reiterate whenever I purchase and spend my crypto in order to remain secure all the way.

This is what I have so far:

  • set up dedicated offline local machine with no hdd/sdd (essentially my secondary laptop)
  • get an usb stick with a live linux distro (use that to boot the machine and generate the paper wallets for each crypto)

Problems:

#1 What should the workflow look like? (most efficient and secure)

#1a How do I purchase each coin? Exchanges? Buy BTC/ETH and then shapeshift? (Can I buy anonymously?)

#1b How do I spend?

If you notice any errors in my thinking, please point them out. Thanks for reading!

8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Concers over Ethereum's PoS Casper Roadmap on: November 20, 2017, 08:02:10 PM

If I understood everything correctly, in order to become a validator will have to have X ether (stake).

The entry point will be set pretty high (Vlad Zamfir estimated a minimum of 100 validators required, dynamic number).

That implies big players (centralized financial institutions) could potentially control the entire process.

Normal users will pay fees to validators.

Validators might also gain from block rewards (undecided yet).

Could any bright mind shed some light into this? Thanks.

9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Looking to invest $300-500/mo. Help me pick the right coins. on: November 20, 2017, 02:49:11 AM
Hello World!

Long time lurker here.

It feels great to finally get involved. This community is awesome!

So I've been researching top 30+ cryptos (https://coinmarketcap.com) and looking at several things like:

  • dev team background and activity
  • github commit messages, frequency
  • business model and vision
  • roadmap, changelogs
  • website branding and logo design
  • social network activity
  • video interviews, blog/forum posts and discussions

Unlike a large portion of people here, I'm not looking for quick market speculations.

Instead, I'd like to choose the coins that stand for something greater and are true to the deeper purpose. That makes me feel good inside.

I'm not sure I like ICO's, most don't feel right and are simply clones. (insert HYIP reference)

I like science and the scientific approach applied to pretty much anything, including crypto. I love documentation and I've always been fascinated with code and design.

Interested in coins that:

- propose interesting ideas and challenge the status quo

- have a young and curious team, always looking to learn and improve tech

- are close to Satoshi's vision

- are open source (promising or lots of github activity)

- are targeted on a very specific use case and approach that with innovation OR can do almost anything

- have a big picture (long-term goals)

- are proposing solutions to global human problems (tackling social issues)

- real world application (businesses, entrepreneurs, startups)

- dev-friendly (solid documentation)

- aren't centralized (aren't funded by X)

- have a strong ideology (aren't compromising their ABC foundation)

Where should I invest my money? Any tips and points of view are welcome. Thanks guys!
