1  Economy / Speculation / One more reason for UK citizens to use bitcoin on: May 25, 2016, 09:36:24 AM
UK bank customers may have to cover cost of fraud.

What will we do to preserve the legacy system guys ? How about we remove one of the incentives to stay?

2  Bitcoin / Press / [2014-07-15] japanese-retail-giant-rakuten-hints-bitcoin-acceptance on: July 15, 2014, 09:52:20 AM
The Internet revolution is accelerating this year and I imagine that, sooner or later, Rakuten will start accepting money in the form of bitcoin (an internet virtual currency).

likely later rather than sooner - but the pressure is building.
3  Economy / Speculation / EBA opinion on bitcoin on: July 04, 2014, 09:27:38 AM
EBA proposes potential regulatory regime for virtual currencies, but also advises that financial institutions should not buy, hold or sell them whilst no such regime is in place

http://www.eba.europa.eu/-/eba-proposes-potential-regulatory-regime-for-virtual-currencies-but-also-advises-that-financial-institutions-should-not-buy-hold-or-sell-them-whilst-n

Decide for yourselves if this is good or bad news - BNP probably happy they didn't win any coins last week though.
Implies that there will be regulation but this might hurt companies operating in the EU in the meantime.
4  Economy / Economics / IMF just snuck out a new wealth tax proposal/idea on: July 04, 2014, 07:43:21 AM

Expropriation by the back door
Proposing the idea that government bonds be allowed to be extended without triggering a restructuring credit event, no reduction in notional or coupon, but maturity extension drops your Net Present Value and is therefore effectively a wealth tax.
