1  Other / Serious discussion / Can my MTGOX losses be declared as a loss on taxes? on: January 26, 2018, 11:13:16 PM
In 2014 when Gox went down, it took a lot of people's BTC with it. I am not looking for a discussion on what/why happened. I have been hodl BTC all this time, and at the end of 2017 I sold a little on Coinbase.

It's much below the level of USD$20k that is being bantered about, on Coinbase reporting to the IRS. If I sell in the future, I don't want the IRS to flag me as anything, and look back to say "Ah, in 2017 you sold a few fractions of BTC and did not report it", so I plan to enter it as long-term capital gains for 2017 (I've held it for more than a year and a day).

2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How can I create/promote a legit BTC charity? on: January 23, 2014, 06:49:41 PM
Without it looking like a scam? There are plenty of fake ones.
3  Economy / Economics / New bank account "are you going to use this for bitcoin mining?" on: January 11, 2014, 12:07:19 AM
It was not me, but a family member. They said that was the very first question.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Digital wallet from Visa, v.me? on: November 29, 2013, 06:16:27 PM
I haven't seen this mentioned here (but it's a big place...)Just got some Black Friday spam from Tiger Direct (an online computer/tech retailer), they are offering $25 off of any $100 if you use v.me by Visa.

A quick look, they are offering to let you "consolidate" your various credit cards into one convenient 'digital wallet'.  At a glance, it sounds like more of a Paypal sort of thing. I found it interesting that the term 'digital wallet' is at least becoming more mainstream.
5  Economy / Economics / Which is better, 401k or Bitcoin? on: November 20, 2013, 11:52:52 PM
I admire the early adopters for holding on. I congratulate the miners who hung in there. I admire the successful day-traders who blaze paths of glory for themselves. Sometimes, anyway.
