2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Are Crypto Exchanges Ready for Bitcoin? on: December 07, 2017, 10:56:19 PM
Bittrex users took to social media to voice their concerns: something is wrong at the third largest cryptocurrency exchange in the world. Customers openly complain they’re having issues with withdrawals, and this has been going on for weeks. Certainly every popular platform has had its share of problems with runs in the wake of price spikes, but until yesterday the exchange offered no formal, public explanation.
3  Economy / Speculation / Bitcoin price explodes on: December 07, 2017, 03:33:41 PM
Bitcoin price exploded to a new record high on Thursday to climb above $15,000 for the first time in history.

Bitcoin’s remarkable gains continue with few signs of fatigue as the world’s first cryptocurrency broke new ground to soar past a dizzying $15,000 per coin on prominent US-based exchange Coinbase.
4  Economy / Speculation / $12,000! Bitcoin Shoots...Bitcoin Price Hits New Milestone on: December 06, 2017, 07:23:32 AM
Earlier today, on December 6, the bitcoin price achieved a new all-time high at $12,278, within 24 hours since achieving its previous all-time high at $12,000.

Yesterday, on December 5, CCN reported that the price of bitcoin surpassed the $12,000 mark ahead of the launch of CBOE’s bitcoin futures launch. The market has been highly optimistic in regards to CBOE and US-based bitcoin exchange Gemini’s listing of bitcoin futures, given that CBOE is the largest options exchange in the world and its listing of bitcoin futures will lead to a spike in liquidity of the cryptocurrency.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Price Eyes $12,000 on: December 05, 2017, 04:33:49 PM
Over the weekend, bitcoin “died” for the 200th time, but, to the ire of bears across the globe, the most prominent cryptocurrency refuses to acknowledge its supposed demise. The bitcoin price reached a new all-time high on Tuesday at approximately 9:00 UTC, when it briefly rose to $11,931. However, bitcoin was not quite able to extend across the $12,000 mark — a feat which would have raised its total valuation past $200 billion for the first time — and it has since made a minor pullback to $11,887 and a $198.8 billion market cap.
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / International Governance of Bitcoin on: December 05, 2017, 03:05:55 PM
The First Attorney General of Financial Affairs for Egypt announced at a continental conference of prosecutors how international legislation is needed to address bitcoin in the light of evidence, he claims, it is being used to fund terror. The country was rocked just two years ago when the the Prosecutor General was assassinated. More recently the acting successor to the position was also targeted, but narrowly escaped an attempt on his life last year.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / The Failure of SegWit2x on: December 01, 2017, 12:07:50 PM
The Failure of SegWit2x Shows Bitcoin is Digital Gold, Not Just a Better PayPal

The New York Agreement is sometimes credited for bringing the Segregated Witness (SegWit) improvement to the Bitcoin network (others say it was the user-activated soft fork outlined in Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 148), but the hard-forking capacity increase that was attached to the agreement has failed to gain much traction. For that reason, support for the 2x increase has waned and a number of CEOs who pledged their support for both changes have withdrawn their advocacy for the change.

Some have pointed to the hard-forking increase associated with SegWit2x as a contentious waste of time, but there was also much to be learned from the whole experience.

One key takeaway is that it now seems clear that the base Bitcoin protocol is more of a digital gold than an improvement on PayPal or Visa. Having said that, better versions of those payment systems can still be built on top of that base Bitcoin layer.
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Is Bitcoin The New Digital Gold? on: December 01, 2017, 11:07:38 AM
The cryptocurrency has trounced other assets like equities, bonds, and even bullion

Many believe that gold has a new competitor in the form of Bitcoin.

In the digital world, investors are preferring to invest in Bitcoin as a safe investment. But the size of the total market is so small, that it is not even one per cent of gold’s market. Bitcoin has a market cap of $60 billion (Dh220.3 billion), and is increasing at a rapid pace every minute, whereas gold has a market cap of $7 trillion.

“People talk of Bitcoin as the new digital gold 2.0. Despite the fact that we have reached an all-time high, Bitcoin is only about $55 billion of worldwide value,” said BTCC chief executive officer Bobby Lee.
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Is There Any Guaranteed Security to Cryptocurrency Holders? on: November 30, 2017, 03:53:43 PM
As digital currencies soar, safeguarding your cryptocurrency is imperative, no matter how humble your holdings.

How safe are your coins? You might think your coins are safe due to the fact that you've observed all security protocols. No mention was made of all the wallets that are cloud dependent. Most wallets still have to "check-in"or actually store the coins in their cloud with wallet links to it.

Two factor authenticatin is a lark. Longer passwords are the same thing except not broken into two fields. Only propaganda to make the masses feel secure.

Hardware wallets are just passwords into another piece os software and can be hacked just the same as straight software. Another sales gimmic.

I think there's a huge weakness of cyber currencies or what do we think?
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Requirements for Crypto Exchanges In South Korea on: November 30, 2017, 01:41:50 PM
The South Korean Financial Services Commission (FSC) is finalizing proposed regulations for cryptocurrency exchanges. According to The Hankyoreh daily newspaper on Tuesday, the proposed regulations “would treat the operation of cryptocurrency exchanges (such as Bithumb, Coinone, and Korbit) as unauthorized fundraising.”

Currently, cryptocurrency exchanges fall under the Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce Transactions. That means “they can be operated as an e-commerce website by anyone who registers as an online vendor,” the news outlet detailed. “While the FSC regards cryptocurrencies not as a financial instrument but as unauthorized fundraising, it recognizes that they are already being traded around the world,” the publication noted, adding that the Commission plans to allow the exchanges to operate under certain terms. An FSC official detailed:

"Cryptocurrency exchanges will be required to maintain standards for consumer protection, such as having separate deposits for customers’ assets, and for increasing transparency, such as having a procedure for confirming customers’ identity. The authorities will also be empowered to prosecute exchanges that break these rules."

In August, Democratic Party lawmaker Park Yong-jin submitted a proposed revision to the Electronic Financial Transactions Act. He proposed that anyone entering into a digital currency business, including operating a cryptocurrency exchange, must obtain a permit from the FSC, the publication detailed.

12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / THE RISE OF BITCOIN THROUGHOUT 2017 on: November 29, 2017, 05:44:57 PM
The rise of Bitcoin throughout 2017 has been spectacular. Since January, the digital currency has delighted investors with its incredible 11x gains. In fact, without including other cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin is without doubt the hottest investment of the last twelve months. If the current trend is anything to go by, it’ll likely go down as the biggest money spinner of the entire decade too.
13  Economy / Speculation / BITCOIN FINALLY ENTERS 5 DIGITS on: November 29, 2017, 05:25:59 PM
Bitcoin steamed past the huge psychological barrier of $10,000 yesterday. Since then, it’s shown little sign of letting up. Less than 24 hours since it reached five-figures for the first time, the world’s most popular cryptocurrency continued on its rise topping out at around $11,500 on Wednesday afternoon. It has since retraced somewhat to around $11,000 at the time of writing. Of course, it wasn’t long before representatives of central banks passed comment on the historic moment of BTC reaching five-figures
