141  Bitcoin / Wallet software / [LIST] Multisig Wallets on: March 18, 2021, 12:00:22 PM
If you want to eliminate single point of failure or you want better protection against Bitcoin theft or natural disaster you should consider using Mulltisignature wallets for Bitcoin.
This is also a good solution if multiple people hold a lot of funds because they all need to agree and sign transactions for spending that funds, and one person can't have all control over funds.

I made a list of most wallets currently supporting Bitcoin Multisignature creation:

* Can't construct multisig or it can't be verified

There are other options that offer paid multisig setup like Casa but open source wallets like Electrum or Armory should also work just fine,
and we can combine multiple software and hardware wallets for creating custom multisig setup.
Most wallets that are supporting PSBT (Partially Signed Bitcoin Transactions) should be able to work with Multisig setup.

Please note that Multisig is adding extra level of complexity and it is not recommended for newbies!!

142  Other / Meta / Notifications for moved topics? on: March 17, 2021, 11:54:02 AM
Short introduction:

New bitcointalk forum member cryptnroll created a topic about his website Crypt&Roll in Project Development board.

I don't know if someone reported his topic to moderators or not, but it was later moved to Gambling board and that is probably the best place for that topic.

Problem is, new members can't navigate well in forum and they don't receive any notification in case their topic is moved (like in this case) and we can see this happening more than once.

This was his reply after he noticed his thread was moved:

Hi everyone,

I will answer all your questions today, I am new to the forum, I didn't notice the thread was moved.

My question:

Is there a way to add some kind of (optional) notifications when thread that member started is moved to some other board?

Best thing would be to have this option in profile settings, but I doubt we are going to see this any time soon, and maybe TryNinja can add this to his BitcoinTalk SuperNotifier, or someone could suggest some better solution for this.

One more thing I am thinking is some kind of automated proposed boards while you are typing your topic title.
143  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Don't use Coinify with Ledger on: March 16, 2021, 06:18:41 PM
Coinify is a service used for buying and selling bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, company is started in Denmark back in 2014 but they are better known as ledger hardware wallet partners.
There are some forum topics about Coinify showing how they are calculating ridiculously high fees, but that is just a start.

Some of you may remember this year ledger Valentines deal when they offered $ Vouchers for purchasing their Love Packs.
If we dig a bit deeper and see below, we can see that ledger was offering limited $15 voucher for purchasing ledger Nano S, and $25 voucher for purchasing ledger Nano X with their partner Coinify:

https://shop.ledger.com/pages/ledger-valentines-promo-terms-conditions

Everything looks fine so far, but there was a catch and this was used as bait for spending money on purchasing ledger and customers were being forced to buy crypto over Conify if they want to claim their vouchers,
and we have example of one guy who had to purchased $61 worth crypto to get $25 voucher.
He was unable to use bank transfer, and his only option was to use credit card with 4.25% fee but that didn't work also, so he never received his voucher and he felt fooled by both ledger and coinfy.

To find all the special rules you need to dig and search in ledger website fineprints and you will find out that many countries are not eligible, but this guy double checked and he was living in eligible country.

Quote
Redeeming a Coinify voucher

To redeem a Coinify voucher, you must meet the following requirements:

- Be in an eligible country, state, or territory. Please refer to our Eligibility page to see if you are eligible.
- Use a payment method accepted by Coinify.
- Purchase a minimum of $50 in the crypto of your choice on the Coinify exchange accessible through Ledger Live.
- If you meet these conditions, you can redeem your voucher by entering it in the promo code field when reviewing your transaction on the Coinify interface through Ledger Live.
https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/360020980654-Buy-crypto-with-Ledger-Live-mobile

What kind a voucher is that forcing you to buy more coins along with hardware wallet you already purchased?
I don't know, but this was probably one of the worst promos I ever saw in crypto, and now you have people screaming all over how Coinify is a scam.

Hope someone reads this - Don't use Coinify and don't fall for this bs again.
144  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Signal app accepts Bitcoin Donations on: March 16, 2021, 10:48:20 AM
Well known privacy messaging app Signal started accepting Bitcoin and other crypto donations.
Many privacy oriented people like Edward Snowden and Jack Dorsey from Twitter are already using Signal and we know they are both supporting Bitcoin as well.

One thing I noticed on their donation page is that you can choose to donate with your full name and address or click the checkbox and donate anonymously, like I would suggest.
This is just one more small step in wider Bitcoin adoption. Wink

145  Economy / Reputation / Death threats by Lucius and ~DefaultTrust on: March 14, 2021, 03:59:50 PM
After having nice talks in separate topic this two members started to make death threats, and we know that member can easily get banned for that.

It is also not funny to make fun with virus like that when we know how many people died all over the world.

I am not surprised to see that from some trolls, but I am surprised to see that from girls driven by personal vendetta.

Both posts reported  to moderators.

Fortunately, the only one I unfortunately came across (luckily online) is you. Too bad someone doesn't invent a virus that would kill idiots (like you), pedophiles and drug dealers - what a wonderful world that would be - we would kill at least two flies with one blow.

Be careful with your desires. Suddenly it will come true and someone will invent such a virus. It may turn out that first your employers (pedophiles and drug dealers) will die, and then you and your loved ones will die too (idiots)

Unrelated with topic and answer to Lucija to my TEMP-TAG is this post and explanation.
You would understand if you bother to look how many posts and topics he make in just few minutes.
Reading helps:

And you are doing this all the time, so I am temp-tagging you as a spammer.

146  Economy / Exchanges / Stop using HitBTC exchange! on: March 13, 2021, 08:54:33 AM
I heard many complains from people using HitBTC exchange but now we have confirmation from Coingecko website with their banner and with trust score alert.
People are reporting many withdrawal issues connected with 2FA resets and customers KYC from users, and this is not the only exchange with problems like that.
HitBTC exchange was also accused for scam many times before in bitcointalk forum and their forum profile is showing that they are doing the same shady thing for years.

147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Full Bitcoin Node Costs on: March 12, 2021, 09:00:52 AM
I see many people are claiming that running full Bitcoin node is expensive and that many people can't afford it but I never saw exact calculations and costs.
Only with running full nodes we can say that Bitcoin is truly decentralized, and all transactions and blocks are fully validated.

Requirements for running full Bitcoin node

 - Desktop or Laptop computer or Raspberry Pi with minimum 2GB RAM (starting from $35)

 - Hard Drive (starting from $13 per TB)

 - Internet connection with good upload speed and unlimited traffic (starting from $5 per Month)

Hard Drives prices are rapidly going down and Seagate just announced they plan to release 50 TB hard drives by 2026 and over 120 TB HDDs after 2030 and you can see that hard drive prices are starting from $13 per TB.
Trend is clear and nobody can tell me that people can't afford to buy large hard drive today, much larger than current Bitcoin blockchain size of around 350GB.

Internet connection prices varies a lot depending from region you live but cheapest is in Ukraine, Russia, Romania and most expensive in Ethiopia according to Numbeo stats.
Internet connection speed is also going up all the time especially for Scandinavia and Asia.

I think most people can afford RaspberryPi4.

Is there someone who can still convince me I am wrong and come up with new theory that running full Bitcoin node is expensive and not for everyone?

148  Economy / Exchanges / Huobi Global Exchange License? on: March 09, 2021, 12:01:22 PM
Looks like Huobi Global Exchange has been lying about license they have for operating in Republic of Seychelles, and that can be seen on their website Legal page as well as in Coingecko page.

Financial Services Authority officials from Seychelles confirmed that Huobi has no license for operating there and for providing such services, but there is no reply from Huobi about this yet.

I would be careful and not trade or hold any coins there until this is resolved.

149  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Fastest ways to generate Vanity address? on: March 06, 2021, 06:44:20 PM
I was looking for different ways to generate Vanity personalized BTC address for testing purposes and I found some guides posted on Bitcointalk HERE and HERE.
Using that requires time downloading, installing and following instructions with vanitygen and vanitysearch.

Then I found several websites who are offering same thing directly from your browser and offline.

Note that I don't know how legit this websites and there is always a risk, so I am asking other members to double check everything and find some bugs and flaws in them!
Don't use this websites if you don't know what you are doing as you may lose your coins!

150  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Attack vectors for Hardware Wallets on: March 05, 2021, 02:15:38 PM
We can all agree that Hardware Wallets are much better and safer way for storing Bitcoin than regular hot wallets installed on your computer or mobile phone.
This devices are designed for sole purpose of keeping users private keys and funds safe, and there are less attack vectors than for regular computers and phones but we should know that they are not perfect solution and there are many attack vectors.
You must take responsibility for keeping your backup, password and/or passphrase safe and there is no protection from attackers if you lose them.

Each hardware wallet manufacturer have different tactics for protection against this attacks and reducing attack surface, and some do it better than others but none of them are bulletproof.
Here I tried to collect most known hardware wallet attack vectors and some of them can be applied on other devices and not just hardware wallets.

Device Attacks

 - Firmware bugs - are always possible and we have them before for most hardware wallets, but updates get released soon after reporting.

 - Invasive attacks - are result of device being opened by attacker and to extract memory and password or replace chip.

 - Side channel attacks - can be done with analyzing device power, electromagnetic leaks or OLED and it was done before by invd on many hardware wallets.

 - Evil Maid attacks - can be done when attacker steal device from you and then modify it or replace it with other that gets returned to you as tampered.

 - Brute-force attacks - can be done when attacker brute-force your password and unlock the device.

Computer Attacks

 - Malicious apps attack - can be done with replacing original wallet app with malicious one installed on computer.

 - Malicious USB connection and cables - are one of the latest threats used to infect your devices with malware.

 - Clipboard hijacking - can be done with malicious program on your computer that can read clipboard and replace your addresses with different one.

 - Man in the middle attack - can happen when attacker manages to alter and change receiving address with malware.

Online Attacks

 - Server attack - is always possible for all hardware wallets and it can result in tracking your IP address and showing wrong balances.

 - Phishing Attacks - are happening often when user is tricked to enter his seed words on fake website wallet.

Supply Chain Attacks

 - Entropy attack - can be done using bad true random number generators or with backdoors in manufacturer secure element chips.

 - Device Shipping attack - can be done as soon as device leave the factory with help of employees or resellers.

 - Malicious firmware - can be installed and delivered to you without you ever knowing that.

 - Covert nonce channel attack - can be done by extracting the seed with encoding part of nonce and making malicious signatures.

Human Attacks

 - Wrench attack - can happen when attacker physically attacks you and threatens you to send them funds.

 - Stolen backup - can happen if you are not careful and passphrase should be used and kept separate.

 - Leaking Private Data -  happened several times when customer data was stolen by hackers and leaked from manufacturers like ledger.

 - Shoulder_surfing

Best PROTECTION against many of this attacks in using a good Multisig Setup.

This may look a lot at first sight and you may think that Air-gapped computer is a better solution, but please visit this website to see some of their attacks vectors:
https://airgapcomputer.com/

There is NO perfect solution Wink

151  Other / Meta / YubiKey optional Bitcointalk login on: March 04, 2021, 03:51:53 PM
How hard would be to add Yubikey as optional two-factor authentication login for Bitcointalk forum?
Like I said it would be only optional and people would have to agree to lose access for their account in case they lost backup.

Many members have Yubikeys or hardware wallets like ledger or trezor that can work the same as hardware security and additional protection for our accounts.
Forum hacks are getting more serious and scary like this latest example of Top Three Russian Cybercrime Forums Hacked, and I know there are few ex forum members who are repeatedly getting banned, that are non-stop thinking of different ways how to hack the forum or bring it down.

I am not sure if this could be implemented now or for new forum software (that is long overdue) but I don't see any downsides for doing that.
Maybe something like this:

152  Economy / Service Discussion / BitfinexPay payment processor? on: March 04, 2021, 09:22:37 AM
Is anyone still using Bitfinex exchange?
They are now starting their own payment processor BitfinexPay that allows merchants to accept crypto payments for products or services.
Interesting thing is that there have zero processing fees, but only up to $1000 is allowed per 24 hours, and they accept Bitcoin, Lightning Network BTC, Ethereum and USDT token.
We obviously need to pass KYC to use this, and we don't have to be Bitfinex exchange users for purchasing, but if we are transactions will be faster and off-chain.

Bitfinex is obviously trying to compete with PayPal and I think this service is similar like Coinbase Commerce or Bitpay.

I heard many complains about Bitfinex and I would not trust them with using their payment processor but what are the best alternative options for merchants to accept Bitcoin?

153  Economy / Exchanges / For Coinbase Satoshi Nakamoto is a Risk Factor on: February 28, 2021, 01:13:50 PM
Coinbase posted their S-1 filings with the SEC and they mentioned that Satoshi Nakamoto and his identity is a Risk Factor for their business.

You can see all their Risk Factors starting from page 15 and Satoshi is one of them on mentioned page 19:

Quote
- the identification of Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous person or persons who developed Bitcoin, or the transfer of Satoshi’s Bitcoins;

Other Risk Factors include breaches of security and privacy, market conditions, changes in liquidity, negative publicity, regulatory or legislative changes, fees and transaction congestion, economic and political conditions, reduction in mining rewards, quantum computing, software bugs and others.

We all know that Satoshi associated addresses have a lot of Bitcoins, but is Satoshi really deserving to be in Risk Factor category?
154  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Hardware Wallets banned in India?! on: February 28, 2021, 11:22:41 AM
We know India wants to ban Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies but latest information are telling us that they are also banning hardware wallets and their customs is not even allowing importing them in India.
This has been reported by several Indian crypto influencers, like you can see bellow how they marked them as BITCOIN WALLETS:

https://twitter.com/ThatNaimish/status/1365580174108946433

What can people in India do now if they want to buy hardware wallets?

1. They can still buy them from official retailer shops located in their country.

For Ledger, Trezor, Coldcard, Coolwallet, Safepal and other hardware wallets you can use:
- Esolvify Solutions LLP
- Etherbit Private Limited
 -Evyune

2. You can buy hardware wallet in neighboring country that is more crypto friendly like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, China or any other country in the world.

3. Making your own DIY hardware wallets like Trezor, Jade or Bowser is not that hard but you need to have some skills for that.

4. You can always use paper wallet for free or other open source wallets like Electrum with offline storage.

Watch out for scammers who will surely try to take advantage of this situation with selling fake or tampered wallets!
155  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin is a Lifeboat on: February 26, 2021, 02:23:38 PM
Andreas Antonopoulos made a great video for everyone to watch, both for newbies who don't know anything about Bitcoin and as reminder for everyone else who is watching Bitcoin price waves now.

All fiat currencies are in war with each other and with Bitcoin, and their big boats are all sinking at different speed but they are surely sinking.

Central Bank Digital Currencies and corporate coins like Libra are just a distractions.

Quote
Satoshi Nakamoto is the name used by the presumed pseudonymous person or persons who developed bitcoin, authored the bitcoin white paper, and created and deployed bitcoin's original reference implementation. As part of the implementation, Nakamoto also devised the first blockchain database. In the process, Nakamoto was the first to solve the double-spending problem for digital currency using a peer-to-peer network. Nakamoto was active in the development of bitcoin up until December 2010. Many people have claimed, or have been claimed, to be Nakamoto.

I would exclude Dorian Nakamoto and some other people from this list, but they became so much connected with Bitcoin history that I just left them, and for most of them there is some wild theory floating around Smiley

What we know with 100% certainty is that Satoshi Nakamoto is NOT Craig Steven Wright better known as Faketoshi.

Faketoshi is a term used for a person who claim they are the real Satoshi Nakamoto, creator of Bitcoin.

157  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Apple Hardware Wallet concept on: February 21, 2021, 12:43:48 PM
Italian Designer Antonio DeRosa created interesting concept for future Apple Hardware wallet called Apple Money, after rumors that Apple may enter the Bitcoin and  crypto market.
Apple Money received nice feedback on social media and he surely got some attention from Apple developers, but there are some fantasy details like family mining.

He imagined this hardware wallet will have:

- Apple Security Chip S2
- Compatible crypto assets
- Apple card- support
- Certified Secure Element EAL5+
- Pin code
- Bluetooth support
- 512x64 touchscreen
- USB typeC support
- 2W speaker and Mic (I don't know why would you have this on hardware wallet)
- Fingerprint reader (I don't like this feature)
- 12h standby mode
- Dimensions 11x20x9 mm

I don't see any Camera here and I think this would be much better to have for QR codes instead of microphone and speaker.

https://aderosa.myportfolio.com/apple-money

He even created a video about Apple Money:
https://youtu.be/CfgGdxfsH3U

I think this deserves more attention, and Apple may create their own hardware wallet version in future that can look totally different than this, but it is interesting concept and we need more designers working on crypto related concepts like this.
158  Economy / Trading Discussion / Bitcoin NUPL Net Unrealized Profit/Loss on: February 19, 2021, 12:54:06 PM
If you are trading Bitcoin you should pay attention on Net Unrealized Profit/Loss chart showing the difference between Relative Unrealized Profit and Relative Unrealized Loss, and it also shows how much of bitcoin circulating supply is in profit or loss.
It is one of the good indicators showing several market stages (Capitulation, Hope/Fear, Optimism/Anxiety, Belief/Denial, Greed/Euphoria) and when is the best time to buy more or sell and take some profits.
We can see what happened in past with previous Bitcoin bull runs with two main website sources Glassnode and Lookintobitcoin.com.

NUPL = Relative Unrealized Profit − Relative Unrealized Loss

            Market Cap − Realized Cap
         = ------------------------------
                      Market Cap

Let's see Glassnode NUPL first with red color showing best times to buy more Bitcoin in Capitulation stages and blue color showing best time to sell because we reached top and stage of Greed in market.
According to Glassnode NUPL we are currently in Belief/Denial stage and you can notice below all the blue tops in previous bull markets of 2011, 2013 and 2017.

https://studio.glassnode.com/metrics?a=BTC&m=indicators.NetUnrealizedProfitLoss

Second good website would be Lookintobitcoin.com with chart indicator developed by Tamas Blummer, Tuur Demeester and Michiel Lescrauwaet.
It shows a bit different stages than Glassnode and according to them we entered the Greed stage for Bitcoin.

https://www.lookintobitcoin.com/charts/relative-unrealized-profit--loss/

Using both of this websites can be useful to spot the top and bottom but don't look them isolated from other indicators but look wider picture and current world economic situation.
Combination of NUPL, BTC Stock-to-Flow, and MVRV Z-Score indicators may be the best for average traders.
159  Bitcoin / Electrum / Two Electrum Questions on: February 18, 2021, 11:47:04 AM
I have been using Electrum as my standard wallet for years and it's working just fine for me, even if I would like to see some improvements and better design.
There are few questions I didn't find any answer on their website or here in forum.

Question 1:
Is there a way to set one wallet as default when opening Electrum?

I created several wallets including Legacy, Native Segwit and other connected with hardware wallet, and I would like to set one as default when I open Electrum.
Only way to do this now if I manually open wallet that I want and I don't understand how Electrum decides what wallet to open, maybe one that last had some transaction.

Question 2:
Is it possible to hide and disable address in Electrum wallet?

I know there is Freeze option in Electrum but I couldn't find any way to hide and disable some addresses I don't want to be seen or used.
This address should be disabled and not shown in Addresses tab or shown when I click New Address in Receive tab.
There are also limited number of addresses and change addresses shown in Addresses tab and I would like to show more of them if that is possible, and I hope I made myself clear enough.
Transactions details for everything could still be seen in History tab.

160  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Physical Attacks getting more serious on: February 18, 2021, 10:18:24 AM
List of known attacks against people who own Bitcoin and crypto assets are getting bigger every day, as we can see in Jameson Lopp github page.
Who knows how many similar unknown attacks are happening all the time but they never got published for various reasons, maybe victims are scared, they don't want publicity and they just never report the crime.
It would be a good idea to go through this previous cases and learn from their examples how to avoid getting attacked for owning Bitcoin.

Only this years there was four known attack on people, two of them happened in Hong Kong, and other two happened in Europe, one in Poland and other one in Sweden.
Depending on your location in the world someone could attack you for $100 or $1M worth Bitcoin, just like people got attacked for fiat currencies all the time and with rise of Bitcoin popularity this attacks will probably increase.

Famous people who own Bitcoin are at much higher risk to become victims of this attacks so they care much more about their security and they use multisig, multiple wallets, different locations for backups so that even them alone can't recover all their bitcoins even with gun pointed in their head.

What can regular people do to reduce this risk?

- Never talk in public how much Bitcoins you own, or maybe don't even say that you even own any Bitcoin.
- Try not to reveal your private information with various KYC procedures, or for ordering any crypto related stuff like hardware wallets.
- Don't keep all your Bitcoins in one wallet address and use multiple decoy wallets with small amount of coins.
- Use better security for your seed backups.

Do you think it is important to keep somehow private the fact that you own Bitcoin and crypto or you should talk everyone about it?
