Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Are broken PCI-E pins repairable?
|
on: January 02, 2013, 04:07:31 AM

The 1x portion of my PCI-E card on my 5970 broke off. I was wondering if I could use a PCI-E extender, and solder it onto alternate points in the card. Does anybody know if this has been done and where they are? Heres an example picture showing what part broke off, this isn't a picture of my card:

Bitcoin / Mining support / Sound no longer working after 1 month of mining.

I'm not looking for a solution, just wondering if steady heat is to blame for my sound no longer working. Windows can tell that speakers are plugged in and the device appears to be runing fine, but I get no sound no matter what I do. Including resetting bios and running live linux distros. Pretty sure I burnt out my motherboards onboard sound. It was working find before I turned it into a dedicated rig. Temps werent even that high. Is this common?

Bitcoin / Mining support / Why do I get an out of range error when I use DVI but VGA is fine?
|
on: July 02, 2011, 06:45:17 AM
|
HD 5970 with dual DVI and 1 mini dvi port. If I use a cheap DVI to VGA converter then I can get all ranges shown. If I take off the adaptor and just go straight through DVI then I can't see anything other than an "Out of range" red box in the center of a black screen.
I've tried multiple operating systems, drivers, nothing seems to work. Has anybody ever seen anything like this before? My monitor accepts both DVI and VGA, it's a 22 inch westing house L2610NW.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / This is what reddit thinks of bitcoin

At the time of posting this 3 upvotes, 7 downvotes. Plus every comment in the post has been downvoted. Telling me that the smarter people are going to downvote my whole thread and everyones comments so they can post and upvote themselves using fake accounts. Can't say I'm surprised this got messy. Can't say I'm not amused either. So basically I'm giving away 1 bitcoin to the biggest scumbag. Whatever, lesson learned. It was worth it. I honestly had more respect for people. Egg on my face. Either way I figured you guys would get a kick out of it. Notice the disgust and rage. People don't like bitcoin. I know posting this here will greatly fuck with my experiment. But for some reason I want to. Maybe I'm hoping you guys will flock to it in masses and upvote it, but that's stupid. However if that's how it happens then I'd rather one of you get it. And not some dipshit as a collective joke. http://www.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/comments/i9f4n/ill_give_1_bitcoin_to_the_top_comment_after/

Bitcoin / Mining support / Buy coins or a card?
|
on: June 24, 2011, 05:21:11 AM

Hey guys, I hate bugging you with things I could research myself, but I'm lazy and I think this might help others. Someone is selling a 5950 for 160 locally on craigslist.
I want to buy the card, mine, then sell the card once I decide to quit. The thing is, I'm a gambler and think bitcoins might hit $100 in the next few years here.
What wold you do?
Edit: Electricity is cheap here .04 - .025 a kwh. I won't start mining until the 1,200,000 difficulty rate hits.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin and the future of war.

Dumb question for you guys:
Let's say bitcoin gets accepted by a small, poor country. Then a neighboring country follows along. How improbable would it be that one country would cash out, destabilizing bitcoin and fucking the other country over (instead of buying weapons and bombs)? Or would the massive sell off result in mutual assured self destruction? Is it no different than the US selling off all it's gold instead of buying bombs? What happens if many poor countries adapt bitcoin, and one rich fucker (as they always do) tries to reallocate wealth, and does a massive sell off, then rebuy, or pump and dump? Is it possible that bitcoin is actually a weapon alternative? It's not like the CIA is shy about destabilizing poor countries.
Disclaimer: I do a lot of drugs and this is probably spam, but I'd appreciate the civil discourse.

This was one of my many unfinished projects. If anybody here is interested I could take pictures of everything I have tomorrow. Items include:
4 5.5 gallon corny kegs 3 15.5 gallon converted keggles with holes and hardware. They need to be welded though, I bought the screw on stuff and I wouldn't trust it. 1 counterflow wort chiller (very nice) 1 20lb CO2 tank(needs to be totally emptied before shipping) 1 Regulator 2 soda guns 2 chiller plates Other misc. hardware for lines, caps for the corny kegs.
I'd like to get 24 bitcoins + shipping for it all, and if someone is interested let me know and I'll get everything up. I live in West Texas incase that has an impact.

Economy / Trading Discussion / Tips on musicians making bitcoin?
|
on: June 13, 2011, 02:17:25 AM

I've been a fan of my friend's music for years. Now that I'm excited about this bitcoin thing I naturally suggested that he make a donations link accepting bitcoins. His music is free, but it's been a month and he hasn't gotten anything. I posted it up on reddit and the bitcoin wiki. We're both entertaining the idea that maybe he's just a talentless hack.
In case he isn't, what would you recommended he try and do?
