3  Bitcoin / Project Development / BitID Mediawiki Plugin on: June 23, 2014, 07:17:53 AM
One of the DarkWallet developers, sem, has made the following module implementing bitid for mediawiki so it can be used as a login option:

https://github.com/sembrestels/mediawiki-bitid

Sem has made a great plugin that allows linking different keys to a user account, and also revoking them, as well as login or create user from bitid in a way that is almost transparent for the user.

You can see some screenshots of how the login looks: https://wiki.unsystem.net/en/index.php/DarkWallet/Alpha5#Annex_1._BitId_Workflow

We have enabled it in our unsystem wiki (check the top right for the login option):

https://wiki.unsystem.net

And also is supported by the latest DarkWallet release (alpha 5) so the wallet will perform the necessary steps just a one click decission, and will manage the keys for logging into websites.

Enjoy!
4  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Dark Wallet Alpha 5 Release - Bitid + Watch only on: June 23, 2014, 07:06:26 AM
Today we released DarkWallet Alpha 5 version.

* Release notes: https://wiki.unsystem.net/index.php/DarkWallet/Alpha5 (A lot of details here)
* Download: https://github.com/darkwallet/darkwallet/releases/tag/0.5.0

The main features are bitid implementation and watch only pockets.

Bitid allows to login into a website by signing a nonce offered by the website and posting it to the website. This links the website user to a public key controlled by the user, in this case a bitcoin key where they key is held by the dark wallet. At the moment we sign doing a hardened derivation over the host name so we get a deterministic key for the user, different for every site.

We have made a module for mediawiki implementing bitid so it can be used against the darkwallet: https://github.com/sembrestels/mediawiki-bitid

Watch only pockets allows configuring custom pockets by linking a contact and adding different addresses to that contact.

Many more details in the detail notes above.

Enjoy!
5  Bitcoin / Wallet software / DarkWallet Alpha 4 Release on: June 13, 2014, 06:54:26 PM
Today we released DarkWallet Alpha 4 version.

Release notes: https://wiki.unsystem.net/index.php/DarkWallet/Alpha4 (Important)
Download: https://github.com/darkwallet/darkwallet/releases/tag/0.4.0
Reddit thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/282mmn/darkwallet_alpha_4/

This release brings automatization of multisig actions (see release notes) on top of our lobby/messaging system, as well as other small fixes, polishing etc.

This release marks the end of implementing "big features" and will now focus on hardening, polishing, rearchitecting, documenting etc to bring the software to production quality. Beta starting to be in sight but not yet there.

Thanks to all who donate, pull request, make issues, document, translate, test, etc, this wouldn't be possible without the community.

Cheers!

7  Bitcoin / Wallet software / DarkWallet Alpha3 Release on: May 15, 2014, 12:22:46 PM
Featuring an experimental identity system, and lots of improvements both on the frontend (browser plugin) and backend (gateway, obelisk and libbitcoin), we present Alpha 3:

https://wiki.unsystem.net/index.php/DarkWallet/Alpha3 <-- Detailed release notes
https://github.com/darkwallet/darkwallet/releases/tag/0.3.1
https://github.com/darkwallet/darkwallet/archive/0.3.1.zip

This is a major milestone since we're introducing our new identity system where now you can keep long term contacts and find them later in the crypto goo that is the stratum for our conversations, subject to change but valid for our current goals. Also big improvements in parsing stealth since that's now going to a background thread, and the gateway got some bug fixed that was making things very slow  should now be snappy also using our block explorer will be a new experience Smiley.

Best Regards!!

Edit: Made a quick update release 3.1 fixing a small but annoying issue with identity pairing.

Edit 2: Still Alpha, don't trust with real bitcoins! You can try it on testnet.
8  Bitcoin / Wallet software / DarkWallet Alpha2 on: May 09, 2014, 05:36:23 AM
Hi!

We've released an Alpha2 release of DarkWallet. Still alpha, don't trust with real coins.

Detailed release notes: https://wiki.unsystem.net/index.php/DarkWallet/Alpha2
Release: https://github.com/darkwallet/darkwallet/releases/tag/0.2.0

You can also check our webpage so you know it: https://darkwallet.is

This release is aimed at stabilizing the wallet, obelisk and the gateway. We have also added a simple p2p layer from openbazaar to communicate the gateways and coinjoin channels in a more decentralized way (also opens another protocol for communication to the network of servers and wallets).

We fixed a lot of bugs, stabilized stealth that had a couple issues (actually unrelated to stealth computations or detection Tongue), and also improved a bit the coinjoin subsystem, although we're still working on that.

We have a Roadmap about our current plans towards release at: https://wiki.unsystem.net/index.php/DarkWallet/Roadmap

Enjoy and thx to all supporters and all the nice people in the community!
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Stealth addresses in darkwallet on: May 02, 2014, 01:43:53 AM
Hi!

This is a topic to increase awareness of how we are doing stealth in darkwallet, which is an evolution of the previous iteration implemented by sx.

The implementation of the idea is developed by Peter Todd, Amir Taaki and others. Invented by ByteCoin and with input also by Gmaxwell, Adam Back and others. see http://sourceforge.net/p/bitcoin/mailman/message/31813471/

After discussing over different media, we have arrived to the current "spec": https://wiki.unsystem.net/index.php/DarkWallet/Stealth#Dual-key_stealth

The address results in something like:
vJmskssYSW6wrxsiSWfcCzrUp2GrhHA3hNHtrPDS4ZwCWbHcZCm7L4UwSGQ9fe7sehxpZjGJeNU478J AUitGnQrDssycWemxg5vHfB

(there is no speced version, but we're using 42 for mainnet and 43 for testnet)

But can be later for multisig since it's like an "extended" multisig script.

That includes the following information:
[version:1] [options:1] [scan_pubkey:33] [N:1] [spend_pubkey_1:33] ... [spend_pubkey_N:33] [number_sigs:1] [prefix_length:1] [prefix:prefix_length/8, round up]

You can see the wiki above about how each key is used, but the key factor is we will keep our scan private key generally unlocked (in the client9 while the spend one will be locked, this way the wallet can scan for their tx while not compromising funds security (compromises privacy).

Our implementation is javascript:
https://github.com/darkwallet/darkwallet/blob/develop/js/util/stealth.js
https://github.com/darkwallet/darkwallet/blob/develop/test/unit/util/stealthSpec.js

For now we're not using the prefix, that is aimed at splitting stealth information in namespaces. Also we haven't implemented parts for multisig stealth, that would use several spend keys and result in a stealh multisig where the address is a (long) stealth address, and payments would contain the nonce and a p2sh address. We will be looking to implement this part in the near future.

We welcome any feedback about the idea, and would like to standarize it soon into a bip. This totally works today: Also can be tried on testnet by using darkwallet. https://blockchain.info/tx/6ea5c6f1a97f382f87523d13ef9f2ef17b828607107efdbba42a80b8a6555356.

Cheers!

Edit: Changed a bit the attributions to better reflect the reality as seems Peter and Amir did more developing the implementation details while ByteCoin actually invented the idea of ecdh keys and others added up.
10  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Dark Wallet Alpha Specs and Discussion on: May 02, 2014, 01:11:15 AM
Hi, DarkWallet dev here!

As you know we have just made a first alpha release (https://github.com/darkwallet/darkwallet/releases/tag/0.1.0).

It goes together with the following document:

https://wiki.unsystem.net/index.php/DarkWallet/Alpha

That details different aspects of the wallet workings.

The current release is aimed at increasing the awareness and feedback about all those features, included coinjoin mixing and stealth. We are taking a no compromises approach, there is still some work to be done but we expect to have a working, usable wallet with all privacy features enabled by default as well as strong support for other features like multisig funds.

You are all invited to read the document and test the software. All feedback is welcome, looking forward to discussing different aspects of the wallet so we can refine things towards a release.

Cheers!
