2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / BOUNTY: Need help with 'sendalert' on: June 29, 2014, 01:56:36 PM
Trying to test sendalert on an altcoin im developing.
sendalert <message> <privatekey> <minver> <maxver> <priority> <id> [cancelupto]

./coincoind sendalert "the answer is 42" "27275617279DB25365E64BB2E0DF16A91005652B83F2F331F8F585" 10000 80000 100 1000

I see this error.
error: {"code":-1,"message":"value is type str, expected int"}

there are only 2 strings, the message, and they key, which clearly aren't supposed to be integers.

Will send $50 to anyone who can help me debug.
(Note that the hex string isn't my actual private key)
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Sending Alert messages with Altcoins ? on: June 22, 2014, 07:08:16 PM
Is anyone familiar with the alert process?

I'm looking for a walkthrough on how to setup sending an alert on custom alt-coins.

I know sign an alert message with an ECDSA private key -- just looking at how to setup the message.

Thanks.
4  Bitcoin / Project Development / Looking for white-labeled exchange software solution. on: June 10, 2014, 05:29:54 PM
Anyone know if there is an open-source implementation of an exchange front-end AND back-end thats currently available?

I'm a developer, but don't want to code an exchange from scratch. Want to start with something and build on it.

Ideally it would use websockets.

I'm willing to pay a bounty for anyone who can arrange this for me.  I know justcoin/ snow is one possibility.  Any other suggestions.

$500 to anyone who can provide me with code and a HOWTO installation for a LAMP environment.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [XC] X11COIN - BUGS IN SOURCE CODE!! BEWARE OF THE XC DEVS!! AMATEUR HOUR! on: June 08, 2014, 06:13:03 PM
WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The X11 code on github from https://github.com/atcsecure/X11COIN  has bugs.

The RPC and P2P ports are set to the same numbers!
So it's impossible to build from source and have a working client, the port conflict means that the unix command line binary won't even start!

THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST BASIC CONCEPTS IN BITCOIN. Whoever would set these ports the same is idiotic.

It's amateur hour at X11Coin, I would sell this until it hits zero. Obviously the people running this thing are not real programmers.

I would also be VERY concerned that your binary client downloads are not malware... if you can't build from source, stay away!
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How viable is Bitcoin with Satoshi + MtGox theif holding 2 Million BTC? on: February 28, 2014, 08:52:01 PM
It seems that the Gini co-efficient would be outrageously high for Bitcoin to succeed if 10% of coins really are in the hands of two entities.

It seems like there will be opportunity for other alt-coins to market themselves as more 'fairly' distribted and take some market share from Bitcoin.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Future Bitcoin security. TX_FEEs compared to the United States military budget? on: January 19, 2014, 04:26:11 AM
One could argue that the US military budget is the TX_FEE for 'securing' the USD as the worlds reserve currency.

What is the percentage of this cost compared to the total USD money supply M1 and M2?

Once all 21,000,000 Bitcoins are mined, if we apply this same percentage, how many bitcoins will be spent a day as a reward for miners securing the network?  How does that compare to today?

8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What's your favorite naming convention for mBTC, and uBTC? on: December 17, 2013, 09:28:43 AM
Obviously this debate will rage on for a while until the market itself decides.... but it's always interesting to see the current trends.

Vote away!!
9  Bitcoin / Project Development / [BOUNTY] Where is the decrypted wallet kept on Blockchain.info's iOS app ? on: December 11, 2013, 08:49:05 AM
Back in 2012 I had the Blockchain.info iOS wallet installed from the korean store.

It asked me for a password the first time I used it, and then it stayed PAIRED with the blockchain servers for months.

Since I was able to turn my phone on/off and still have access to my decrypted wallet whenever i used the app, (without entering a password), I know the decrypted wallet/keys had to be kept on the filesystem and NOT in memory.

Do you know what file that would be in?   I have a 1BTC bounty available for anyone who can help me recover the private keys to my wallet.

One day the blockchain.info server was down, the device de-paired itself and asked me for the password, which I forgot because I never used it for months and stupidly left BTC in there not realizing that it had to be decrypted by connecting to the server.

If you can help please let me know.

(I have a jailbroken app and full access to the file system, so If you could tell me where the decryted key was kept perhaps i can find it on the filesystem?)

Thanks!

11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Litecoin volume will soon surpass Bitcoin beacuse people think its 'cheaper' on: November 28, 2013, 12:08:24 AM
Litecoin traded $70 million in volume on BTC-e in the past day or so.  Soon it will be 1/2 Bitcoin volume, or even match it.

Since october bitcoin went from $100 to $1000, litecoin went from $1 to $35 (and climbing).  Litecoin has been a 350% better investment.

I have friends who just told me that they were thinking about buying Bitcoin, but they're going to give Litecoin a try because its 'cheaper' and might to go to $1000 like bitcoin. This is the problem that I said would happen many posts ago.  The psychology aspect is now playing a roll because we haven't switched to 'bits' aka 100 satoshi as the base unit.

I'm going to convert 1/4 of my BTC as a hedge incase money starts flowing out of Bitcoin and into Litecoin.  I suggest everyone else do the same as well.  I also think the fact that it is GPU based is also a big driver for usage. This is not the case with Bitcoin where specialized ASIC hardware is required, and the only way to get it is by taking a financial loss as the ASIC companies sell it for more then its worth.
12  Economy / Computer hardware / [WANTED] Does anyone know where I can buy a Avalon Control Unit? on: November 18, 2013, 05:12:43 AM
My avalon batch 2 control unit died. I tried to reflow the FT232 Chip, but it didn't work.

Does anyone know where I can buy a new control unit, or would sell me one?

I need one right away, and am willing to pay reasonable price plus overnight shipping from anywhere in the world.

Thanks!
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / A proposal: Forget about mBTC and switch directly to Satoshis on: November 03, 2013, 12:31:28 AM
I'll get straight to the point.

We should move straight to Satoshi's instead of bother with mBTC.

Problems with mBTC:
- It's not small enough (1mBTC is already $1.10 in china).  This means that micropayments already need to deal with fractions of mBTC.
- The general public doesn't like to think in fractions. They would like to avoid them if possible.
- As the price rises, we'll have to switch to a lower unit all over again, introducing more confusion for the masses and newbies.
- It's psychologically confusing and ugly for new users. Nobody likes owning a fraction of anything. They'd rather own a multiple of something.
- We might all be mathematically inclined, but the masses are scared of fractions.  mBTC does not solve the fraction and decimal problem.

Advantages of switching straight to Satoshi's:

- No fractions or decimals.

- The units are easier to deal with. 1000=1Ks, 1Million= 1Ms . I can now pay the blog a micropayment of 500 Satoshis instead of 0.005 mBTC.

- Names of satoshi amounts are well known to common people. i.e.  10 million satoshis are "10 Megas" is much nicer then 10 "millibits".   Everyone is already used to calling $1000 a 'K'...  5000 satoshis could therefore be called '5 K'.  (K for kilosatoshi)

- Makes micro-payments much easier to deal with.  mBTC was supposed to get rid of the too-many-decimals problem of using BTC. Now that the price has risen so high, mBTC is sort of pointless.  Blogs who want to offer articles to read for 1/10th of a penny have to charge .005mBTC. It would be better to charge 500 S

- Psychologically, the average person doesn't want to own a fraction of something. They'd rather have 500 S instead of .005 mBTC

- We can make the switch once and be done with it.  Wallet software will have to replace mBTC with uBTC as the price rises.  Switch to satoshi's directly and get is over with.

The price will soon be high enough that we can go straight to satoshi's.  mBTC in my opinion is an exercise in futility and confusion.

EDIT: Please keep this thread ON-TOPIC.  The topic is mBTC vs Satoshis.  Arguments that Satoshi's are too big of a unit don't hold water here.  Please make another topic for that.  We're not debating what will happen in 50 years.  mBTC will be useless in the next year or two.  Satoshi is currently the smallest unit. The dev's won't be dividing satoshis for a long time (if ever). Thank you.

EDIT 2: It is a common misconception that BTC is the base unit. Infact, the base unit in the code are Satoshis.  Satoshi himself admitted that 1BTC was arbitrarily chosen, and that he could change it later if he wanted to.  Satoshis do not break the orders of magnitude. Choosing 1BTC = 100Ms breaks the orders of magnitude.

EDIT 3:
Update:  Bitcoin magazine tends to agree that decimals aren't a good idea.

14  Economy / Service Discussion / ICBIT.se - Worlds largest BTC Futures exchange now has 0% fees. on: November 02, 2013, 11:57:25 PM
Just an FYI that ICBIT.se has 0% fees for the next two weeks in celebration of their 2 year anniversary!

You can buy November, December, or March futures with BTC and you get 4 or 5 to 1 leverage.

They also offer CNY and Difficulty futures!
15  Economy / Service Discussion / Best way to profit from BTC going up is with FUTURES! on: November 02, 2013, 11:52:30 PM
So, you think bitcoin is going to $500?

On a regular exchange, you can't profit from the price going up without depositing some FIAT and buying more BTC... The BTC balance you have in your account is useless, because the exchange doesn't give you leverage.

That's why you should use FUTURES contracts to bet on the price of BTC increasing.

At ICBIT.se, you can buy November, December, or March contracts with BTC.  I think you currently get around 4:1 leverage. So you can buy 100BTC worth of contracts with only 25BTC.  If that position rises 25%, you will double your original BTC balance.

They currently have 0% trading fees for the next two weeks.
16  Economy / Computer hardware / Avalon hardware for sale - from 2 BTC on: October 28, 2013, 02:46:42 AM
Hi

I currently have 2 Avalon Batch 2 units for sale.

The FT232 chip on the control unit on one unit is not detected by the WRT, so I moved 1 module from the broken unit into the 2nd unit and made it a 4 module unit.

This means I have 2-Module Batch 2 Avalon unit for sale with a broken control unit.

Asking 5 BTC for the whole unit, OR, I will sell each module separately. Asking 2.5 BTC each + shipping.
The power supply is 750W, and the power board is in working order.

I also have a 4-Moduule Batch 2 Avalon unit for sale - asking 10 BTC + shipping.
Power supply is 750W and it is hashing steady at 95Gh. You can get it up to 110Gh if you upgrade the power supply.

Asking 15 BTC +shipping for all the hardware.

Best offers take the hardware!

Thanks
17  Economy / Securities / [POLL] Just-Dice INVESTORS: Do you agree with lowering the max bet? on: September 25, 2013, 06:08:55 PM
As many of you know, Just-dice investors lost a lot of BTC to Nakowa.  He currently has 13,000BTC of investor money in his hands. As a result, dooglus lowered the max bet to 0.25%

Nakowa has stated that he will never play again since the max bet has been lowered.

As an investor, Are you happy with lowering the max bet?

EDIT: Some things to consider

PROS:
-- Less variance for investors.

CONS:
-- We must assume for now that Nakowa will not play again (this might change, but he said he won'y play again at this bet size). This means there is no way for investors to recover the 13,000BTC losses.
-- As BTC exchange rate rises bet sizes will drop. As time goes on without nakowa, its possible that the site will never hit +6000 profit making it impossible for some investors to recover their losses.
-- Changing bet size without notice wasn't good for gambler confidence.
18  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / PSA: Do NOT buy Bitfury BF1 USB Miner - It will not ROI. on: September 12, 2013, 12:25:57 PM
They are selling for 2.1 to 2.5 BTC each.

They will not ever make back more then 1 BTC.

Bitfury will laugh all the way to the bank at all the idiots why buy this.

19  Economy / Gambling / BitBet incorrectly declares yes to a no bet. Stay Away from BitBet!! on: September 06, 2013, 08:22:48 PM
1) The bet in question is this:
http://bitbet.us/bet/520/bitfury-eu-august-orders-will-ship-before-1st/

2) The bet language states:
"Bitfurystrikesback.com (Bitfury EU reseller) will ship their 25 and 400 gigahash mining units before 1st of September 2013. Devices must meet advertised performance (25 GH/s unit 40W, 400 GH/s unit 400W) in order to be accepted as valid. Atleast 5 deliveries confirmed by respected members of the community required."

3) I found this bet interesting, it says that the hardware must 'perform as advertised to be accepted as valid'.  I was pretty sure what the '400Gh unit' was based on the forum posts, but just to make sure I went to bitfurystrikesback.com to see what the advertised hardware was.
http://www.bitfurystrikesback.com/product/400gh-miner-october-2013/

400Gh Kit @ 400W
INCLUDES:
- 1 Master board
- 16 hashing boards with 16 Bitfury 55nm ASIC chips for total of 256 chips
- Raspberry Pi Model B with SD card and software preinstalled"

4) I decided that the hardware, as advertised, would not reach 400Gh hashrate. So, I placed a NO bet.

5) The hardware, as advertised, did not meet performance: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=250249.msg3050985#msg3050985
The '400Gh Unit' meets the power usage, but only hashes at 365Gh.

6) A short while later, I was shocked to see that the bet was passed as a YES anyway, with a note that says: "Even if not a very clear cut case, all technicalities aside the bet was substantially delivered upon."
So, basically, BitBet thinks that the 400Gh Miner in question only hashing at 365Gh is just a 'technicality', and passed the bet anyway.

7) Fraud? Scam? You decide.  Either way I urge you all to stay away from this site.

A side note:  BitFury did a great job and shipped on time. In fact, they are such a great company, that they offered to provide more hardware to customers since they missed hash rate targets.  However, one should not confuse the additional provided hardware with the bet language above which states the '400Gh UNIT' must perform as advertised.  It didn't.
