41  Economy / Services / Collection agents needed on: April 10, 2012, 03:38:39 AM
I am an active BTC lender over in the lending forum, see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=61756.0

I and some of the other lenders are looking for help with collection of bad BTC debts.  The debts are usually pretty small so we are looking for an someone who just wants to try to help on some of these to see what happens.  You should live near the borrower.  IBM (my BTC lending service) is currently sitting on three bad debts but there are many more where these came from - bad debts owned by the other lenders as well:

Code:
Date      Who           Loan  Payback  Due Date  Loan Address   		     Notes
--------  ------------  ----  -------  --------  ----------------------------------  -
01/25/12  gurg2.o       20    21.00    02/03/12  15D2uoPut7QbHUKDUtLSXXJfzWvzDvnni8  Lives in Laguna Niguel, California with his parent(s)
01/29/12  doubleicaras  25    28.75    03/06/12  1F6MCoBMwmfpT5fruvCUjirFEybhLe5c1C  Lives in the UK
03/28/12  bcjunkie      15    15.00+   04/02/12  14g8TeohrrTEbsdDAY3EAdiXdzRNZR3Qc3  Lives in Bowling Green, Kentucky, have copy of his DL

Anyone interested in trying to help out?

NOTE that the total doubleicaras (UK) debt is a lot larger, this is just the part owed to IBM.

Here is the latest from him.  If he keeps his word and deposits 9 BTC per day he should have the principle paid off in about 30 days.  Hope springs eternal.

Paying 9 bit coins per day for the next month to this address:

https://blockexplorer.com/address/127UR5vUk6eCeasWgTo5gK8iG2wmDAvSiZ

Waiting on silk road to release some of my bitcoins, so first payment will start tomorrow unfortunately.

theymos has setup the address to hold the coins and then be dispersed to the lenders.

45  Other / Meta / Beyond Hero Status on: January 23, 2012, 10:03:53 PM
I just reached Hero status!  Shouldn't there be another level beyond "Hero", perhaps "Super Hero"?  Maybe at 2500 posts?  Then DeathAndTaxes and others would be Super Heros and it would give us mortal heros something to shoot for Smiley
46  Economy / Services / Coding project will pay in BTC on: January 07, 2012, 04:12:24 PM
I am looking for someone to create a program or script that would do the following.

Given an arbitrary paragraph like:

Code:
But I don't want to go among mad people Alice remarked.
Oh, you can't help that said the cat.
We're all mad here.
I'm mad. You're mad.
How do you know I'm mad said Alice?
You must be said the cat.
Or you wouldn't have come here.

automatically convert it so a series of valid public key addresses like this:

Code:
1But1DontWantToGoAmongMadxxxzDmyW6
1Peop1eA1iceRemarkedxxxxxxxxxuLyKu
12ohYouCantHe1pThatxxxxxxxxxzCjyMs
19SaidTheCatWereA11MadHerexxyTvEir
191mMadYoureMadxxxxxxxxxxxxxvwA4Up
1HowDoYouKnow1mMadSaidA1icexxZA4Nr
12YouMustBeSaidTheCatxxxxxxxz2tFa2
12orYouWou1dntHaveComeHerexxvtHbqq

You need to:

Convert everything to CamelCase and remove all spaces and punctuation marks
Convert all illegal characters to the nearest equivalent
Break up the phrase into correctly sized chunks
Calculate the valid public addresses

I am pretty sure I could do this but I am lazy and thought someone might like to earn some BTC.

Anyone interested?

Bruno and I need this for a project we are working on.
47  Economy / Auctions / Bidding bots gone wild ? on: November 30, 2011, 03:59:49 AM
Check out this penny auction:

Two bidders (or their bots?) went wild.  The "winner" paid $6.61 for a single BTC!
48  Other / Off-topic / All future T.P.S. reports must be submitted on genuine DUNDER-MIFFLIN paper! on: November 29, 2011, 05:31:24 PM
I strongly suggest that we immediately require that all future T.P.S. reports must be submitted on genuine DUNDER-MIFFLIN paper:

For anyone who missed the previous memo – and you know who you are – here is the new cover page for all future T.P.S. reports.

49  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / 1VayNert throwing away BTC on: November 20, 2011, 03:35:46 PM
Dear 1VayNert

It appears that you may have a bug in your transactions that is causing you to throw away 0.01 BTC on each transaction.  Thought you would like to know.

Example here:  http://blockexplorer.com/tx/9969603dca74d14d29d1d5f56b94c7872551607f8c2d6837ab9715c60721b50e

50  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / 1BitcoinEaterAddressDontSend on: October 15, 2011, 03:16:30 PM
NEVERMIND - I understand now this is just a bogus (but honest) address which states exactly what will happen if you send any Bitcoins to it.

I have been playing around with vanity address generation.  For fun I ran http://firstbits.com/1bitcoin thinking to myself that surely someone had already claimed that address (if not I was going to get it).  What I got really shocked me:

1BitcoinEaterAddressDontSendf59kuE  Shocked

I find this amazing and a bit concerning.

I was very concerned because my first thought was that someone has enough hashing power to almost reproduce an entire public key address.

I am less concerned now that I figure the search was some sort of regular expression of English words.

Still, I wonder how long this took and how much computational power was used.

This also leads to my main question:  assuming someone could reproduce an entire public key address would they be able to steal the BTC from the original account with that same public key address?

Maybe the owner of this address can tell us how long this took and how they did it.

51  Bitcoin / Pools / deepbit.com appears to be phishing on: October 08, 2011, 04:13:27 AM
Please take a look at deepbit.com.  It looks like a phishing web site but I am not sure.

If it is a phishing web site then how can these guys be taken out? (turns out is probably is not a phishing web site)

If it is not a phishing web site then who would we need to notify in order to get the redirect fixed?  (answer is Tycho)
