1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / A Gaming Standard Protocol for Web3 and Polkadot on: November 23, 2020, 12:44:56 AM
Having a standard protocol for Web3 gaming is important because it allows developers to easily code complicated games that rely on distributed cryptography for things like shuffling cards, rolling dice, and many other types of game actions (simultaneous blind moves, random number generation, etc.). These fundamentals are needed by almost every class of game.

There are multiple teams working on this but recently the Web3 Foundation recently made headways into this by doing a grant to one such project.

Is this the beginning of fully decentralized gaming, gambling, and casinos? They seem to also be looking into adding these features into the Polkadot ecosystem via cross-chains and NFTs.
2  Economy / Gambling / Saito: Come help us test our games! on: August 26, 2020, 11:37:31 AM
Saito is a blockchain that can pay for itself at scale. The Saito Arcade, a proof-of-concept for the network, it's a gaming site where you can experience what Saito can do. It allows people to play popular boardgames with no need for Metamask, using complex, open-source apps running completely on-chain that can be developed by anyone.

Come play some Wordblocks or have a nice game of Poker and give it a try!

3  Other / Off-topic / What would you do before selling your laptop? on: May 30, 2020, 09:02:35 AM
I'm faced with this very question myself. I just bought a new laptop, and it is on the way - my old laptop already has a new owner waiting for her. Still, I used to do a lot of crypto stuff with this laptop, and I'm afraid a regular drive wipe won't be enough to get rid of all my private key stuff that could give access to my crypto to someone else...

So other than doing a regular wipe, maybe 2 or 3, what would you do to guarantee that those keys are not recoverable? Or should I just surrender to my paranoia, buy a new drive, and take out the current one? I'm pretty sure people here have faced this very question here.

How would you protect your Bitcoin and alt-coins private keys from being taken over by someone attempting to recover data from your drive on purpose or accidentally?
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / (Serious Question) Is Bitcoin Doomed to be Centralized by China? on: May 27, 2020, 05:47:49 AM
Hear me out before you call me paranoid or anything.

I have been looking for multiple sources of information on this, and most seem to agree that at least 40% and up to 65% of the mining hash-power is coming from China.

I'm not going to argue here if the Chinese government is to be trusted or not - that's something you decide for yourself. What I want to know, is to what extent are they going to allow Bitcoin to remain independent when it becomes harder to turn a profit and how "independent" these mining groups are from the influence of the government.

Maybe it won't happen today, 6.25 BTC per block seems to still make the cut for many miners - but let's say pigs don't fly and BTC is still around 10k for the next halving and the next one as well. What prevents their government from attempting a hostile take over of the farms? (assuming they aren't all loyal to the party already)

After looking at what Justin Sun has done with the Steem Blockchain (I know its dPoS vs PoW) I've been looking for more info in true defense mechanisms to guarantee a decentralized platform but really, most of them are either abandoned or still in the theoretical or alpha phase... Will Bitcoin rise to the occasion when needed or will it slowly become centralized? Maybe they don't do a full hostile take over but enforce a mining block tax like with BCH? Anything goes?
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / What do you think Reddit's crypto incursions will do to the market? (Opinions?) on: May 25, 2020, 03:09:37 AM
There has been a lot of chatter on Reddit and cryptos, both in the platform and the news lately.

From opening their crypto vault and announcing that they will launch their cryptocurrency to reward communities and their cofounders going public on their crypto assets and suddenly claiming we are at the beginning of the crypto "spring" for development...

I don't really have a solid opinion on this, but I do know China partially owns them, and they have been a massive force of censorship lately on the internet... What are your thoughts on this "perfect" storm?
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / High Fees Are Killing Adoption in South America (and the 3rd world in general) on: May 24, 2020, 12:26:14 AM
Let me start this by saying I live in a particular socialist paradise in South America, up until recently there had been excitement among certain normie circles, and I managed to introduce a couple of dozen people into cryptocurrency just in 2020 alone.

This all has been changing since the halving and something needs to be done about this - Wages in the third world, in general, are low, you can't expect someone to put up with a $3 transaction fee when they are only able to earn $20-30 bucks a month or less and Venezuela is not the only country heading this way. I have friends in Argentina that are starting to struggle with their bitcoin transactions and justifying when their minimum wage has gone down from $500 to $150 in 3 years.

It feels like fiat currencies are collapsing and this should be the time for BTC and crypto in general to shine but instead adoption is being slowed down by a relatively flawed economic incentives system and greedy miners... Where is the lighting network?
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / What do you guys think of Blocktivity? on: May 21, 2020, 06:47:55 AM
Back in the day, I used to visit blocktivity.info a lot, but I guess I eventually just stopped doing it due to changing places from where I got my crypto news, info, and data.

Recently they came out with an all-new and updated website and are tracking more information, and I always found their valuation algorithm interesting... so what do you guys think? I at least thing its an interesting non-market cap way of trying to measure value.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / The Elephant in the Room on: May 14, 2020, 07:24:48 AM
Ok, When will we stop ignoring the elephant in the room? We are seeing many blockchains become centralized, even some of the big ones like BCH, being vulnerable to 51% attacks or accept that 12.5% of the miners' profits are taken away by some unaccountable Chinese fund? Is this something that will become a trend with the other blockchain projects? Is there anything to be done about this?

What're your guys takes on this?
