1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Question about hacking and private keys - Coinbase as example on: February 16, 2018, 06:57:18 AM
Don’t really have a good understanding on all this stuff as far as the actual mechanics behind it. But something just really doesn’t make sense to me and it seems very amiss.

Let’s take Coinbase as an example. If coinbase is only a hosted exchange and doesn’t actually have the keys available, as they are held in cold storage, then what good are those keys to begin with if they are not required to convert to cash?

If someone was to hack into my computer and take control of my account and transfer my coins out, they don’t have the actual keys, they just have the coins that are keyless, yet they can trade those coins without the keys and cash them in.

So what the heck good are keys if I don’t need them to convert to cash? They seem to be totally useless if somebody can just steal your keyless coins, put them in another account and then convert them to cash without even NEEDING the keys. That seems like a major flaw to me??

2  Economy / Exchanges / 10% Deposit Fee Coinbase? on: January 08, 2018, 11:22:36 AM
I sold 6 LTC and deposited it back into my checking account. Was $277 LTC and deposit was $1800. Fee was $27.25??? WTF??? Website says ACH deposits are free? Are they charging to convert the money or something because I already paid the fees when I put it in there to begin with.

It's either 1.5 percent checking account fee or a whopping 10 percent LTC fee. Since it was $277 and $27 assuming it's a 10% which is outrageous!
3  Economy / Trading Discussion / Options available for selling out if my ship comes in? on: January 01, 2018, 03:14:13 AM
This is still one of the most confusing areas for me Huh

So let's say the 1000 coins I bought for a penny magically goes up overnight to $1,000. Wow! I'm rich! I'm going to buy my mansion, I'm going to buy a yacht, a Porsc.. wait.  First I have to GET the money! Coinbase would take a year to pull it with those dumb weekly limits.

Worse I don't even have a temporary place to put it in Coinbase as I watch the price drop down and there's nothing I can do about it!

So who and what is everybody recommending one do for a no sell limit or high sell limit for initial accounts that arent taking a month of sundays to verify?

Am I dreaming or uneducated?
4  Economy / Exchanges / Bitstamp taking longer to verify than "up to 2 weeks" on: January 01, 2018, 01:28:02 AM
I know I know I know, there's a big rush, blah blah blah. And I know everyone is frustrated with how long it's taking to get verified. But one thing that I do not like is when the exchanges cannot just be honest.

If it's going to take a few weeks, just say that, don't say something that you know ahead of time is not going to be accurate. Show concern about all the people out here that are trying to set up an account with YOUR COMPANY.

It's been over 3 weeks for me...  so nobody get your hopes up! Sent it all in on 12/10
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / FYI Coinbase delayed at sending 12/30/17 on: December 31, 2017, 03:05:34 AM
Anyone thinking of sending money from Coinbase may want to wait as it appears they are bogged down. I had no problems the last few days but a few hours ago I sent some money over to Binance and a 2nd amount about 45 minutes ago and both transactions remain pending at CB but no record of receiving it by Binance.

I'm sure there's nothing to be concerned about and it will all be there by morning but just letting everyone know ahead of time if you are the worrisome or anxious type...like me Smiley
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Want to make sure I'm understanding Blockchain correctly on: December 31, 2017, 01:23:54 AM
Made many transactions yesterday from Coinbase to Binance  and went off very smoothly and all of them were good to go in minutes. Made one a few hours ago and its still showing pending on Coinbase but has not been received by Binance yet.

I did a search here and more or less being told don't sweat it. Be patient. Sometimes it can take many hours and  stop watching it and just go to sleep it will be there in the morning. I hope....

What I don't understand is when I punch the address from Binance into block chain, which I have done a few times before in the early days when I got anxious after 20 minutes, the address just never shows. It just always says not found.  Says unrecognized search pattern.

Unfortunately doing a search here I couldn't find an answer to this question which is simply am I doing this right? Just paste the address from Binance directly into the search bar and it should come up to show me something?  Because after a half a dozen times of using it over last few weeks i always get the same response I'm wondering what good this site does!

And will it mess it up if I try to initiate another send in the middle of all this or should I just wait till this one goes through and then send again?  I'm anxious to buy while the prices where I want it
Thanks!
7  Economy / Service Discussion / Concerning Binance.. I'm impressed! on: December 30, 2017, 02:21:29 AM
Seeing as I'm completely new to this and started a few weeks ago. And seeing how every single exchange has been crashing due to popular demand, it never really hit me till now. But l I have to say, Binance is rockin and rollin!

Where there are some exchanges that have just come right out and told you don't bother, we are not even accepting new members cuz we can't keep up (Bittrex and Kraken) and others that state huge delays (Bitstamp and Coinbase)  I am actually MORE than amazed that I was able to log right on, make several transactions that only took a couple minutes, and the whole thing went down PERFECT!

This is a sign that this particular company has their crap together, previously predicted a huge surge in business and was already well prepared with their servers and such to where it was "Business as usual"

So considering the unstable state and platform of almost every exchange out there right now, I'd say that is VERY COMMENDABLE!!!

The only con I can see is it would make it so much easier if they just showed the USD rate for everything that was purchased and sold instead of constantly having to do these bitcoin conversion to figure it out.  May not be that much work for one, but when youve got 50 transactions and 1/2 dozen different coins it gets to be a major pain in the butt!
8  Economy / Service Discussion / Using Binance questions on: December 29, 2017, 09:19:29 PM
My first post and pretty much a newbie to everything.  I thought for sure would be a category for wallets and exchanges here, but I don't see one so I hope this is right place!

So I just signed up Binance and made several transactions from Coinbase, to Bitcoin, to my Atcoin.  Using iPhone iOS.  But I have a couple questions I can't figure out.

1) Where can I go and just see my totals?  Going under transaction history the are all broken up into many different transactions. I was kind of hoping for an area like a Wallet just says: Ripple 500 Alt 650 so on so on.  The only way I can see is to go to history and then add up each purchase.  Which brings me to my second question.

2) If I purchase 500 ripple, why does it show many, smaller transactions like 100,200,200?

3) And how secure does everyone think it is to just leave it there without putting it into a wallet?  My research shows that none of the actual sites are actually getting hacked into but individual accounts are. I have quite a bit of security set up so I would be absolutely shocked if somebody could hack into my personal account. But they are MUCH smarter than me.  And for few coins I have I don't see were it would be worth their effort.  Do you think I'm OK leaving it there for a few weeks?

Thanks everyone!

PS:  be careful because some kind away in doing all these conversions and after buying the coins I noticed in my transaction history i had bought, then sold and rebought again losing money for no reason!
