1  Economy / Digital goods / [fulfilled] Need to buy some in-game credit for Star Citizen ($150) on: April 08, 2014, 07:15:15 PM
I no longer need this, thanks for the responses. Smiley

Hey folks, I'm looking for a reputable person who's willing to buy me $150 worth of in-game credit (gift cards) for Star Citizen.

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/gift-cards

I'm having problems getting an easy way to do btc->credit card or paypal, so this is my next option.

You would be required to purchase the gift cards (their only options so far for payment are either with credit card (using Stripe or Amazon) or Paypal), and then could "gift" them to me.
We're trying to get them to accept bitcoins (through bitpay) but until they do that, I have to look this way.

We could deal in private messages, where I could give you my in-game name/account, and what fee you would charge, and exchange rate.    I can either send bitcoins to you directly, or we could use coinbase.

I'll check people's trust numbers, too. Smiley

Thanks!!
2  Economy / Service Discussion / any reviews on these guys? prepaidvcard.com on: April 08, 2014, 03:11:18 PM
In my hunt for a prepaid virtual credit card (non reloadable) I found this site:

http://prepaidvcard.com/

Anyone use them and have an opinion (either way)?

If not them, anyone have a reputable merchant who can sell prepaid CC gift cards?
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / 500 namecoins lost *sigh* My own stupidity on: December 12, 2013, 08:26:32 PM
So I recently noticed that namecoins are actually worth more than fractions of a cent.  Like $7 now.  A while back my computer crashed and I recovered what I could, and didn't have any good backups.  Apparently my namecoin folder wasn't important enough for me to try to find/recover.  Plus at the time of the crash, I think namecoins were still under a penny each, and I guess I wasn't paying attention to how many I had... that combined with a couple miners that were doing merged mining through slush's pool, I wasn't paying enough attention to the fortune I was accumulating. Smiley

So yeah, I'm a little peeved at myself that I "lost" $3500.  While I'm 99% certain they're gone forever, I do have a few hard drives from around the time it crashed, so maybe I backed it up on some other drive.  But I'm only giving myself a 1% of this.

4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / bitcoins on The Simpsons? on: December 09, 2013, 02:26:15 AM
I don't have a DVR, so couldn't rewind, but I swear I heard Krusty the Clown tonight say he lost money from the bitcoin crash.

Did anyone else catch that, or was I just hearing things??
5  Bitcoin / Press / 2013-12-3 Lawrence Journal World - Local Art Gallery accepting bitcoins on: December 04, 2013, 02:27:29 PM
Now I know the Lawrence Journal World isn't a big newspaper, but it's the local newspaper for Lawrence, KS (home of University of Kansas (Go Jayhawks!)), and there was an article about a local art gallery accepting bitcoins!  Lawrence is sandwiched equidistant (half-hour either direction) between Topeka (capital of Kansas) and Kansas City.

http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2013/dec/03/local-gallery-first-accept-bitcoin/

Text of the article follows:

Art collectors in Lawrence looking for an original painting by a local artist might be able to find one at the Lawrence Percolator for around $250. Or, in lieu of cash, they might pick it up for roughly one-quarter to one-third of a Bitcoin, depending on the day.

The Lawrence Percolator announced this week that it is now accepting transactions in Bitcoin, making it possibly the first local merchant in Lawrence to accept the internet-based digital currency that is now starting to make its way into the mainstream online retail industry.

"Once you learn the system it's much easier to make transactions in Bitcoin than in cash or credit card," said Walt Ohnesorge-Fick, a volunteer member of the Percolator's board of directors.

The Percolator, 913 Rhode Island St., is a nonprofit gallery that describes itself as being "dedicated to community involvement and area artists."

Bitcoin was launched in 2009 as an alternative currency used mainly for internet transactions, but its precise origins remain something of a mystery. Since then its value has risen sharply, from about $30 per Bitcoin around this time last year, to a recent high of just over $1,000 per Bitcoin.

"I learned about the coin in 2009 during my grad program at San Francisco Art Institute," Ohnesorge-Fick said, "and had I bought into it then, I would have been able to retire today."

But financial experts caution people against speculating in Bitcoin value as a strategy for getting rich quickly because its exchange rate can fluctuate wildly, even over the course of a single day.

The website bitcoinmarkets.com, for example, quoted an exchange price of $799.99 Monday afternoon, down sharply from the previous 24-hour average of $989.03.

Although Bitcoin is commonly referred to as a kind of currency, Kansas University law professor Rick Levy said it really isn't. And that, he said, explains why it's legal to use and is not considered a form of counterfeiting.

Article I of the U.S. Constitution gives Congress the power to coin money. But Levy said Bitcoin is not "legal tender" and nobody has a legal obligation to accept it. Its value, therefore, is determined by whatever people are willing to accept in exchange for it.

"Historically, there have been other forms of made-up currency," Levy said. "For example, companies would pay their workers in 'scrip' that was used in the company store, and the military did something similar in other countries during times of war."

Ohnesorge-Fick said the gallery hasn't yet completed any transactions in Bitcoin, although he said he has made several purchases himself using the alternative currency. He said artists who sell their work through the Lawrence Percolator can decide for themselves whether to accept payment in Bitcoin or U.S. dollars.
6  Bitcoin / Mining support / ASICs don't seem to be registering "correct" hash rate on pools on: December 03, 2013, 10:22:39 PM
So I'm wondering if someone might offer some advice, please?

I'm using bfgminer version 3.8.0 and connected to slush's pool.

I'm using the following settings on on the command line:

Code:
bfgminer.exe -o stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333 -u myminer -p mypass -S all
(note that -G no longer appears to be an option)

When I check my account status on their web page, it's saying I'm only mining at roughly 300Mhash/sec.  It should be roughly 40Ghash (two jalapeņos and one little single).  This also appears to be the same result on btcguild.com as well.

The bfgminer app shows that I'm hashing normally, i.e. 15GHash for the 2 (upgraded) jalapeņos and the 1 little single (25GHash).

So I don't know if I need different flags or a different server or port or what.

Anyone have any suggestions on where I'm going wrong?

I've found various snippets of information on the web, but lots of conflicting info, which might be dependent on the miner and version.
7  Economy / Goods / [WTS] E-trigger for Tippmann 98 Custom on: September 06, 2013, 06:31:02 PM
I have a new-in-the-box E-trigger for a Custom 98 (or Custom 98 Pro with serial number #893000 or higher)

http://www.tippmann.com/ETriggerElectronicUpgradeKit.aspx

I bought it recently thinking I was going to use it, but decided not to.  Still in the packaging, never opened.  They retail for $100, I will sell for $90 and will including shipping (flat rate USPS) to the US.

My originally bought it for the "auto response" mode (gives you one shot per pull and release of the trigger (so two shots per normal trigger function)), and while a lot of parks have a rule against full-auto, the response mode usually gets you around that since you still have to pull the trigger every time.

I'll be going a different route in paintball, and no longer have the need for this.

Comes with 5 total modes:  semi-auto, auto-response, full-auto, 3-shot burst, turbo.
8  Economy / Marketplace / what site to use for transaction values these days? on: August 18, 2013, 05:36:00 PM
It used to be MtGox was where you went to establish accepted value for btc transactions.  Is MtGox still the accepted site, or is there another one used now instead?
9  Other / Beginners & Help / Activity vs post count on: August 13, 2013, 03:53:00 PM
Not really a newbie question, per se, but posting in here because it might be a question that newbies ask (and I'm wondering myself)

What's the difference between "activity" and post count?  I always thought they were the same, but I see people where the numbers are way off sync.
10  Economy / Goods / Any interest in 1st Edition Advanced Dungeons and Dragons books? on: August 11, 2013, 01:59:41 AM
Ok, so I have a few 1st Ed AD&D materials that I've had since the mid to late 80s?  I don't want to sell, but I don't play anymore (no one around anymore that plays 1st Ed), so they're just kind taking up space.

All books have your typical "wear" on the creases. I may have put my name in some of them (like inside front cover) - don't be mad, my mother made me do it in case they got lost/stolen, so they're not pristine.   I'll dig them out and take pictures in case anyone is interested.  I have some 2nd Ed stuff too from when my friend made me switch from Greyhawk to Forgotten Realms in the early 90s.  Smiley

The Dungeon Master guide, for instance, has the efreeti on the front.  Here's an example (not mine, but an example of the cover):  http://www.deigames.com/dmg1st.jpg
I even have some copies of old (blank) AD&D character sheets that have lasted from 1985.  They must have had good paper/toner back then Wink

There's some other odds and ends, like part of the boxed basic D&D set (Red Dragon on the cover I believe).

Some Forgotten Realms stuff, some Dark Sun stuff, I think a Ravenloft box set.

Anyway, if there's any interest, I'll take an inventory and pictures and attempt to describe quality, etc.  I don't know where my miniatures have gone, that kinda makes me mad... I'd sell those, too, but I may have lost them in a variety of moves over the years.  Have a few dice, too.

I also have a bunch of Spellfire cards in case anyone played/plays that card game, still, or collects.  I'll mention it here, but might make a separate ad to list cards out fully.
11  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] 4 BFL Chip Codes - 0.1btc on: July 21, 2013, 12:14:31 AM
Like subject says, selling my 4 BFL Chip Codes for a total of 0.1 btc
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Why Litecoin? on: April 04, 2013, 01:34:01 PM
So I realize there are some other forks of bitcoin, but I occasionally see people trying to throw litecoin into a bitcoin conversation with the public, and that only further confuses folks away from getting into bitcoin.   I think if we want any of these to "win" (as in go mainstream), I think we should just focus on the one (bitcoin).

Also, some of my own minor ignorance, but why litecoin?  What purpose does it serve, right now, other than seemingly a competing coin?
13  Economy / Service Announcements / local (to me - Kansas City area) car dealer accepting bitcoin through bitpay on: April 03, 2013, 11:43:49 PM
This is pretty kick-ass, and a step in the right direction!

Anyway, if you live in the Kansas City area, and you're looking for a Jeep, you might give these guys a try.

Smiley  Even though I'm not in the market for a car, this is awesome news!
14  Economy / Goods / anyplace sell combibars for bitcoins? on: April 03, 2013, 07:50:14 PM
These are kind of a cool concept, and I was wondering if anyone knows of a site that sells them (or similar product, either gold or silver) for bitcoins?

15  Economy / Trading Discussion / Easy way to get cash into bitcoins on: March 29, 2013, 04:17:11 PM
Ok a while back I recall someone getting a processing system going wherein you can take cash to a place like Walmart, and buy something that can then be transferred into MtGox or into bitcoins directly or something.  Well I ignored it for a while, but now that I'm interested again and can't find this information.

For that matter, anyone else have an easy way to either transfer via ACH, or Credit Card, or cash to a reputable bitcoin exchange?
16  Economy / Economics / bitcoin instead of 401k? on: March 28, 2013, 01:17:30 PM
So my wife and I argued last night, because I want to try a year of using whatever I would put into a 401k to buy bitcoins instead.

After much debate, she agreed, but do y'all think I'm stupid for doing so?  Now obviously there are pros/cons to both.  I think bitcoin still has a lot of potential.  I was putting 4% into 401k, and my employer matched 50$ of that (for a total of 6% going into 401k).  So I'll lose 2%, and it'll be after taxes.

On the other hand, if bitcoins grow like they have over the past year, I'd be retarded not to do it.  *sigh*

How many of you have moved away from standard investments into bitcoin?   Or I could drop my allocation some (maybe 3%) and then put 1% into bitcoins?  MOney is tight at the moment, so I can't add extra... I'm just going to use what already is being taken out.
17  Bitcoin / Hardware / If I ask for BFL refund on: March 27, 2013, 05:10:42 PM
If you cancel an order, do they send back the original purchase price in bitcoins (so I think back then I spent 13 or so) or do they convert from current value and only send me back like 2 btc?

I'm starting to get irritated, and thinking my btc could be working for me now instead of fattening up their pockets with some hardware that was supposed to be here already.

</end rant>

Sorry, letting my emotions get the best of me as I see btc value climb. Smiley
18  Economy / Goods / [SOLD] blued Ek Commando EK Model 4 dagger $200 on: February 27, 2013, 07:28:33 PM
***knife is no longer available, sold***

This blade was from a limited 500 unit run of solid blue blade.  There are minor scratches on the blade but just cosmetic.  It's never been used, so I suspect the blemishes are from my various moves and perhaps rubbing on something during said moves or a drop, but I honestly don't know..  I think I got it in '94.  No original box, I would send it in it's sheath in a USPS box.

Steel is 1095 and hardness at 58rc.  The tang is a full tang (runs the full length of the knife and width) which adds to the usefulness for helping balance and effectiveness, and is wrapped in (I believe) paracord.

I'm asking $200 (payable in equivalent btc) and this will include the price of shipping to US addresses.

Ek knives were made with the military in mind, and are built tough.

The sheath has a ring on the bottom for tying a lanyard (lanyard not included) to tie around your leg to help keep it from flopping about while you run.

19  Bitcoin / Mining / suggestions on how to rent my hardware on: January 31, 2013, 06:15:37 PM
Ok, so here's the scenario.  I'll have 2 ASICs coming in soon, and one of my friends wants to get into mining and might get on the waiting list for a BFL.

I am thinking of offering him to rent one of my mine until he gets one.

How would you all suggest for a fair rate of use/rent?

I don't mind doing a net-zero amount (just so I don't lose out of income).  Would you suggest maybe a percentage, and then when he gets his ASIC I get a percentage of his until we're "even" for the same amount of days that it takes for his to arrive?  (maybe have the percentages flip-flop) Or what are people doing this days for rent?
20  Economy / Lending / 15btc loan on: August 29, 2012, 04:31:58 PM
I'm seeking a loan for 15btc.  I have 2x7970 mining 24/7, so I will be able to pay you off in approx 1-2 months if I calculated correctly (unless difficulty takes a stupid jump).  I will pay back 16.5 (so 10% interest to you).  My hash rate avatar still shows just one 7970 stats, but I added another one last night, so mining at approx 1.2GH
