1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Quark is instamined and now coin #4 on: December 01, 2013, 12:12:18 AM
What are you guys doing? If you read the original post of Quark you will find
Quote
Total of 247 million QRK will be mined in ~ 6 months, after that ~ 1 million QRK p.a. (~ 0.5% p.a inflation)

Now a total of 245 million Quark have been mined. With a recent price of 0.0002898 BTC this means a market capitalization of 71k BTC and thus it overtook Namecoin with a market cap of 67k BTC. The price of Quark on Coinmarketcap isn't updated properly for some reason.

So now the question, why are you guys buying this? I don't care what Bill or Max say, this is BS. Bill says in his first video about Quark that the developers contacted him directly. To me it seems he didn't do his own research properly and promoted it in good faith.
2  Economy / Service Discussion / MtGox withdraw horror on: November 15, 2013, 03:41:17 AM
Hi Board,

it seems I got goxed Sad I asked for a BTC withdrawal a couple of days ago which had non standard inputs and was never really processed. Then 32h later the biggest input was double spend as you can see on blockchain.info and consequently my transaction was dropped and my address remains virgin.

MtGox support was telling me to wait for the transaction to be confirmed and then replied

Thank you for the email. On checking, we see that the transaction has been processed form our end and must have reflected in the account. Please check the link below for confirmation.

Please contact us for further inquiries.

The second transaction is the double spend and the first transaction is how the funds got into the double spending address. The destination is obviously not my address. I reopened the issue. At the moment I still believe that I will get my coins eventually. Support is just slow and with the weekend approaching it seems that I will have to wait till next week ... Sad
3  Other / Beginners & Help / Howto create and remember a brain wallet on: November 04, 2013, 07:45:42 AM
Hi Forum!

I have been playing with the idea of getting a brain wallet. I visited some website earlier which could encode the private key as a list of words. I didn't quite like what I got and I wouldn't trust any site in this anyway without inspecting the code. After pondering for a second I though I should really approach this in a principled way. So I'm asking you what your experience is in creating and remembering a brain wallet. Things that concern me:

1. Which software supports brain wallets and is open source and has received some assessment? Specifically I am concerned with the quality of the method used and the quality of the random number generator for key generation. I just don't want any software which either phones my private key back or leaves a backdoor via weak or biased random number generation. I can and will Google this info anyway, but maybe somebody has already scrutinized the software.

2. What is your way of remembering the prose? After all it's just a bunch of random words. I tried to make a story out of it, but given the words there was no way for me to make up any real sentence. I don't want to wake up one day just to find myself incapable of reproducing the private key. Even though in that case I probably have enough partial information that brute-forcing the rest is feasible.

Cheers!
