1  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / BIP 44 Implementation on: September 29, 2014, 02:09:01 AM
According to this BIP, one seed can be used to generate HD keys for multiple chains. I've generated HD keys for different chains before, and I don't see a way that this could be done. The chain's parameters (e.g. base 58 prefixes) are already contained within an extended key. Wouldn't one have to change those bytes in the child key, and wouldn't that invalidate it due to the checksum?

Apparently Trezor is the only implementation of this BIP, and I'm afraid that I don't have one, so I can't see for myself.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / The Term 'Early Adopter' May Be Inaccurate on: September 17, 2014, 04:13:51 PM
So, since I first checked out Bitcoin I've seen the term "early adopter" used to describe people who got involved in Bitcoin within its first few years. To me, that's like applying the term early adopter to those who got involved in the GNU Project in 1985. Wouldn't a more accurate term be alpha testers?

It's not like using the term early adopter is a bad thing. It just implies that Bitcoin adoption began before people could really "adopt" Bitcoin in place of fiat. I know that plenty of people started with Bitcoin because they support the idea, but you could say that about the GNU Project too. Maybe I'm right, or maybe I'm way off. Only one way to find out. Smiley
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [POLL] Will BCX's Audit End Monero? on: September 17, 2014, 01:38:18 AM
Well it looks like things are calming down. Nevermind!

BCX very recently said this:

BCX needs to post and either acknowledge or deny the messages. The alternative is to loose all credibility.

Wow, this thread is only about two hours old, believe it or not there are a few mins per day I am not on Bitcointalk LOL...

As far as the PM's, at first (two days ago) I thought Moneroman88 was part of the Monero Team as he did indeed try to pass himself as part of the Monero Team. It wasn't until I communicated rpietila directly that I kind of, sort of think Moneroman88 may be an independent troll.

I did in fact send this idiot three PM's

The first one in response to him continually spamming Monero, he "threatened" to report me to mprep, so I said go for it.
The second one stating clearly I believe there is an exploit, which I have found since and working on in a sandbox.
The third, telling him if he is so sure I'm talking shit, lets put some BTC on it. (As you can see Moneroman88 does not have the faith in his own beliefs to back it up.)

Furthermore, I have since heard from someone that would know and is credible that this asshole stands a very strong likelihood of being one of my long time friends from "Down Under".

I can assure you, I will post more when the time is appropriate about the weakness that is inherent to XMR and its blockchain.

Like I said you *won't see anything* happening other than Monero rising in significance and price.

If I were you I would sell while you still can.

~BCX~

This is from a Monero speculation thread:

I speculate a sharp fall off in the future.

~BCX~

Personally, I'm watching constantly, because I really want to see how this plays out. What do you think?
4  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Default Toolbar Position? on: July 14, 2014, 06:41:46 PM
I like having the toolbar on the left side of the wallet, instead of it running along the top. Is there a way I can make the left side the default position for the toolbar? I don't mind editing files/rebuilding.
5  Other / Meta / Donation Amounts on: June 12, 2014, 08:23:24 PM
Currently, you can donate 10 BTC (~ $6,000) to become a "Donator." You can donate 50 BTC (~ $31,000) to become "VIP." I'm not opposed to supporting something that I use free of charge, but wow. How many new Donators/VIP members have emerged since BTC's value surged? And when were those amounts decided?
6  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Block Spacing And Security on: June 03, 2014, 04:14:58 PM
I believe I read on the wiki that Satoshi chose 10 minute target spacing for blocks because there's enough time for everyone to know the current block and start working on it. I see altcoins, such as Litecoin, with 2.5 minute block spacing. Some even go as low as less than a minute. Are these blockchains less secure because of this? The orphan rate is probably a lot higher, I know. But I'd like to know the other implications of having such short spacing.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Moore's Law and Cryptocurrencies on: March 29, 2014, 10:30:48 AM
I've seen some coins here talk about using Moore's Law in difficulty calculation. The thing is, Moore's Law will no longer be applicable in a decade or two. The phenomenon of quantum tunneling prevents transistors from getting small enough to meet the predictions made using Moore's Law.

Are coins developed with this in mind? If not, their difficulties might rise beyond intended levels. Perhaps the magnitude of the rise would be negligible?
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / [OCTA] Octacoin - Aborted on: March 06, 2014, 10:08:25 PM
--ABORTED--
Turns out this wasn't such a good idea.

So your only relation to the 8-bit era is that the coin is set to be mined for... 16 years...

I was hoping this was some type of huntercoin human mineable game/coin.

We have enough of these scrypt copycoins.

The door is over there, take your crap and go.

The above quote is quite possibly the greatest idea I've heard.
9  Bitcoin / Legal / Future of Bitcoin Mixer Legality on: February 26, 2014, 07:26:29 PM
Do you think that Bitcoin mixers will be made illegal? I could definitely see it happening in the U.S.

I don't think that it would be hard to convince a group of legislators that Bitcoin mixers exist solely as money-laundering tools. Within the next 10 or so years, it's possible that a large deposit to a mixer from an address that's legally documented as being yours will trigger some form of investigation, albeit light or unbeknownst to you. Or maybe I'm dead wrong; I'd like to hear what others think.
