1  Local / Mining (India) / Custom Open rigs for Scrypt mining on: March 27, 2014, 02:21:43 PM
I have been scrypt mining on 2 x 280X since Dec using a regular computer cabinet. I use a raiser on one of the gpu cards so that they are not next to each other. The temps ran 82 on the gpu attached to the MB and 72 on the raised. This arrangement worked well.

Now in summer however, the gpu slotted on the 16x is 90c and the raised gpu is 84c. I have placed a cheap fan next to the cabinet and that seems to work for now.

I am contemplating builting an open rig but don't have any ideas.

Has anyone built one here in India? I am based in Bangalore. Is there anyone out there who can help me?
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Older Transactions confirmations reset to 0 on: January 15, 2014, 01:43:27 PM
I am using the 0.8.5 wallet and sent out 0.16636459 with fees of 0.0002. It did not reach the blockchain. A little while later I noticed that a number of older transactions are showing 0 confirmations. Has anyone faced this issue?

I backed up my wallet.dat file and did the following so far
1. Checked the size of the block chain downloaded on my machine, Its 15.5 gb
2. Downloaded the latest 0.8.6 wallet and started that - no difference
3. Ran the new wallet with -rescan option - no difference
4. Checked if the wallet shows the latest block - which it does

Not sure what is going on. Any help much appreciated.

Thanks
3  Economy / Trading Discussion / Do currency rates spike during/after Christmas on: December 23, 2013, 08:13:00 PM
OK Not the most reliable source - but at the trollbox a couple of guys were discussing how after Christmas should see an upward price movement. They speculate that people will spend their cash gifts buying bitcoins.

Did something like that happen last year or is that just idle gossip. The order volumes pre Christmas have been low on BTC-e though.
4  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Noob question on GPU on: December 19, 2013, 05:59:35 PM
I am getting riser cables so that I dont run my gpus on the motherboard.  I am using a cooler master case, a cheaper one than this image but this will serve nicely to explain.

I have placed the case in a sleeping position and not standing as it is shown here. I now have 12 inch risers for my 2 gpus (R9 280X). Until I build something custom to hold the gpus, I was thinking of placing a plank on the case and placing the gpus flat with the fans blowing upwards. Will that cause problems or can the gpus be placed like that.
5  Local / Mining (India) / Building a custom rig on: December 12, 2013, 12:40:26 PM
Wondering if any of the miners in India have built their own custom rigs?

I picked up a computer cabinet because of my impatience on getting started but realised soon enough I need a better solution. I have seen people use milk crates and all sorts of creative ideas. Has anyone else tried it in India? Better still in Bangalore?

This is my current favorite.

I have 2 gpus which I want to set much wider than what person has done. My Asus 280x run fairly quite. I was expecting a bigger racket. I think a open solution will help it even more.

Given our Indian conditions (humidity, heat, dust) are there any specific dos and donts? Any help in building this rig is much appreciated.

thanks

6  Local / Mining (India) / Locating a 16X PCIe Riser on: December 03, 2013, 04:58:59 AM
I finally decided to invest in a gpu mining rig. The steep price rise of November meant that I can mine litecoins and still get a decent roi in the coming months. Better late than never right. I picked up 2 Asus R9 280X GPUs and built my first rig. The problem is that running them causes overheating because of their close proximity to each other on the motherboard.

My next step was to pick up a PCIe 16x raiser so that I can give them a little bit of distance. Only I can't seem to find them here locally in Bangalore.

1. Does anyone know any place in Bangalore I can pick them up for.
2. Can anyone help me buy one from a vendor outside of Bangalore and ship it to me.

Its an urgent requirement. Its available to buy from HK or China for very cheap but deliveries typically take 2-3 weeks and that's a lot of time wasted. I have currently disconnected one of the gpus and I am running the other one solo.

Thanks

7  Local / India / Buying BTC in India on: November 13, 2013, 11:03:26 AM
Hello people

I am just starting out in the digital currency universe and I would like to buy between 0.8 and 1 BTC. It just seems so hard to convert money into BTC when you are starting out initially. I saw websites like www.buysellbitco.in and their rates seem to be a bit on the higher side. I visited localbitcoins and the most I could purchase was 0.1. Their phone verification system doesn't seem to work for Vodafone, Bangalore or maybe its just my phone. A couple of other websites mentioned here no longer operate like Mr Bitcoins

Are there any safe, reliable way to convert into BTC?

Thanks
