1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [Pool closed. Withdrawals closed] litecoin.miningpool.com,% donated to charity on: November 13, 2011, 05:45:39 PM
Yay, litecoin.miningpool.com is back up and running - everything has been reprogrammed and we're now a PPLNS pool! Everything from the old version of the pool has now been reset to zero to enable a fresh start.  If you were a member of the old pool, you may need to sign up again.  The best thing to do is try signing in with your old details, but if this doesn't work, just complete the quick sign-up form again.

We've got a new mascot and everything is set to go....

Hop on in, the water is lovely in a friendly new Litecoin mining pool at http://litecoin.miningpool.com

Join up and you'll not only be able to benefit from the regularity of pool mining, but your PC's efforts will also help toward positive and charitable causes....

Features:

Currently a zero percent fee.

Members are paid based on the full value of a block, including transaction fees included in that block.

I'm hoping that Donations will cover the server costs for now.

At the end of the first full month (in other words on or around 14th December...updated - this will now be some time in January) 60% of the first month's donations will be distributed to a number members of the of the Bitcoin/Litecoin etc community - there are a lot of good folks who have put much work into foundations on which we're all building, and I think it would be nice for us all to give a little back in a simple way,

After the first month, I'm aiming that 10% of donations will go to charitable causes each subsequent month.  As well as being a good thing to do, this may get charities to start to adopt Litecoin....approach your favourite charity, ask if they accept Litecoins as donations and post about it here - they may get chosen.

Sooo...keep those donations high.  On joining, a default donation of 4% is set.  You are free to increase or decrease this.  As well as the good causes, the donations will be essential to build up the server power as we grow, so pleeease be nice :-)

More nice stuff:

Quick sign-up and simple to start mining - miner setup details are at http://litecoin.miningpool.com/start-earning-litecoins.php

https enabled.  Currently a self-signed cerificate but I'm intending to get a proper one in the next few days.  Meanwhile if you don't mind the annoying pop-up warning, I'd recommend using  https://litecoin.miningpool.com for security.

Passwords are salted and hashed before being added to database.

Fair system of PPLNS earnings (pay per last N shares). This discourages pool hoppers whilst still rewarding members fairly. Whenever a block is found, the pool's last "N" shares are looked at (currently N is set to 5,000).  You are rewarded based on the number of your own shares that you found among those N shares.  In other words, based on say the current N value of 5,000:

Your reward = your shares/pool total valid shares in last 5,000 shares * block value.

Choice of manual payments or automated payments...Automated payments run every 40 minutes if your balance is above your chosen minimum payout.

Long Polling to give a nice low stale rate.

Jumpy (the server) is waiting to greet you.

Best wishes and happy mining!

2  Other / Meta / Avatar maximum filesize on: October 22, 2011, 12:09:16 PM
Does the forum have a maximum avatar filesize?  Not that I want to upload a large-sized one myself but I've just noticed someone with a 151kb avatar.  As a one-off on a page it's not individually huge, and it looks nice but surely if everyone was to have largeish filesize avatars it would be a bit heavy on bandwidth.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [CLOSED] litecoin.miningpool.com now PPLNS 0 % fee % of donations to charity on: October 17, 2011, 01:58:59 AM
Pool has now been relaunched. Please see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=51746.0
4  Economy / Speculation / Massive spike to $7 (then $15.9499) sunday 3PM BST at MtGox on: September 11, 2011, 02:12:44 PM
Wow, just seen a massive spike up to $7 on Mtgox.  Anyone know what happened?  Gone back to $5.70ish at the time of writing but that was a huge upward move.
5  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / blkmond dies after a minute or so on: June 15, 2011, 12:45:05 AM
I'm trying to set up long polling on a new pool but for some reason blkmond stops after it has only been running for a minute or two.  This is happening both on testnet and mainnet.  Everything else is working fine.  To start blkmond I'm using:
Code:
./blkmond blkmon.cfg &
where blkmon.cfg contains (when bitcoind is running against mainnet):
Code:
host=127.0.0.1
port=8333
pid=/MYPATH-TO/pushpoold.pid

and when testing against testnet
Code:
host=127.0.0.1
port=18333
pid=/MYPATH-TO/pushpoold.pid

(In the above examples I've replaced the actual path to the pushpool.pid with MYPATH-TO ).

This is the output that I'm getting (from testnet as an example):
Code:
send msg_version(nVersion=312 nServices=1 nTime=Wed Jun 15 00:32:43 2011 addrTo=CAddress(nServices=1 ip=127.0.0.1 port=18333) addrFrom=CAddress(nServices=1 ip=0.0.0.0 port=0) nNonce=0xC6AB017501B82BD9 strSubVer=.4 nStartingHeight=-1)

Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas?
