1  Economy / Goods / EURO 2016 Belgium-Italy Category 1 Ticket on: May 31, 2016, 08:27:42 PM
As it happens, a friend of mine suddenly can't go watch the game with me and a colleague so I'm left with an extra ticket to one of the most anticipated games of the group stages in Lyon on June 13th.
I'd love to sell it for bitcoin because... it's cool like that.

Since my name is on the ticket, you will have to enter the stadium with me so, instead of going through the entire escrow dance, we will settle the purchase in person at the stadium entrance. Price of the ticket is 0.3 BTC or best offer.

Happy Bidding!
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / How to convert ECKeys to WIF format? on: October 29, 2015, 12:45:17 AM
After backing up my private keys from the Android Bitcoin Wallet app (schildbach), I managed to export it to my laptop and decrypt it. I then proceeded to use bitcoinj to dump the raw keys onto a data file. My objective being to look at all the single private keys I own.

The raw dump lists the historical of all my transactions along with my wallet address strings followed by entries of the form:

ECKey{pub=..., priv=...}

How do I convert the priv ECKey to WIF format? I've been hanging my head on it for days now without getting anywhere.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
3  Other / Off-topic / Insight Explorer: memory issues on: June 16, 2015, 09:15:10 AM
I recently spun up a full node on a VPS with a 90 GB hard disk. The full node has been functioning so nicely that I opted to install Insight explorer to access and visualize the node's data.

Ever since installing it and first running, the Insight database has taken up a massive amount of hard disk space and isn't done configuring yet! As I stand, when I connect to my webserver to check Insight's status, it says that syncing only at 73% (after 2 days!). I've noticed that over the past two days, the insight frontend has gotten much slower also.

Overall, in terms of hard disk space, I've used up 73 GB of space. Considering that the blockchain size is ~30GB, his would imply that Insight has filled up at least and extra 30GB.

Is this normal? Can it be reigned in? Has anyone here had any experience with setting up the Insight explorer?

Any help would be immensely appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

5  Economy / Collectibles / 2011 Casascius 1 BTC Holo Error on: February 25, 2014, 08:09:31 PM
Lost a bunch of coins on MtGox recently. I know I deserved it. I know I should have seen it coming.
All this doesn't change the fact that I'm down and need to reel in some coins.

I'm willing to part with my baby, a 2011 S1 Holo Error. I was planning to mail it into ANACS but at this point it's probably better to sell.

Coin is in spetacular condition and ships inside coin holder. I accept usage of buyer's choice of escrow at his expenses. I have all documentation attesting its authenticity and am willing to answer any questions you may have via PM.

I'm looking to get 6-7 BTC (BTC price is lower than what it was months ago) but am willing to entertain offers. PM me if interested.

7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Is this MtGox's NTXID testing in action??? on: February 21, 2014, 07:20:41 PM
Thanks to DataVeteran's twitter page (https://twitter.com/Datavetaren), I've stumbled on the following link:

https://data.mtgox.com/api/0/bitcoin_tx.php

It shows a bunch of mtgox blockchain submissions. They all include the new transaction ID constructed by Sipa and Krapeles as disussed extensively on the GitHub thread (https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/3656).

Copy/Pasting the NTXID field in blockchain.info gives a series of transactions happening over the course of the past couple days. If I understand correctly this is the testing they announced they would be doing.

Not all NTXID seem to work. This might imply that not all test transactions are going through properly and, thus, the system isn't fully ready for primetime action. If this were the case, the freeze on all withdrawals could be deemed appropriate.

8  Economy / Invites & Accounts / BUYING: Negative Investment Profit JUST-DICE accounts on: January 26, 2014, 05:23:04 PM
I am looking to buy accounts that currently have negative investment profit on Just-Dice. If you have one please PM me and I may have a deal for you. Depending on how large the deficit is, I will offer more coins for it.

Please do NOT contact me if you investment deficit isn't larger than 0.1 btc.

Sale of the account can proceed through escrow if you choose. I personally prefer http://www.bit2factor.org/ so that no middle men are involved.

PM me for precise details if you're interested.

I am looking to invest more bitcoins on the site and would like to avoid the house fee.
9  Economy / Goods / Proof of sale of 2011 1BTC Casascius coin *HOLO ERROR* - 1DazbUgV on: January 14, 2014, 02:57:49 PM
I have recently purchased a holo error Casascius coin on ebay from an original owner (coin has already been received).

I am starting this thread to document the purchase and be able to refer any future buyers to this thread.

The original owner will follow this post by including his proof of purchase from Mike Caldwell along with customs declaration showing our own respective delivery addresses confirming that the coin was shipped to me.

10  Other / Beginners & Help / On a lower bound to bitcoin prices on: November 14, 2013, 09:45:57 PM
I propose an estimate for a lower bound to the price of bitcoins. The aim of this is to evaluate the longterm intrinsic value of the cryptocurrency.

Eventually, we'll get to the point where mining for bitcoins won't be a feasible task. The only way for the network to hold its ground, is for miners to keep on mining irregardless of mining difficulty. This can only mean that the transaction fees miners get for doing their job need to, at the very least, balance the cost of running their machines.

At the moment, avoiding all the various transaction fee caveats, transactions earn miners about 0.0001 BTC/kB with your average transaction coming at 0.5kB. VISA is built to handle a peak burts of ~8500 transactions per second (tps) which generally occur during the holiday season. However, a hypothetical future society using bitcoins as a global currency will also trade stocks in bitcoins.

Now, I cannot find a statistic on the total number of stock market transactions but I know that the global markets trade around ~697,000 $/second (roughly 22,000 billion/year in 2013). This, along with the $67 average share price gives an estimate of ~10000 tps (identical to VISA's peak transaction rate)

Taking 30000 tps as a good reference rate for transactions happening in the world every second overall (stock markets+consumer market+an extra 10k to simulate traded physical currency), this would come out to 15 MB/s of transaction size for a total fee generation of 1.5 BTC/s.

Alright, how much does this 1.5 bitcoin need to be worth to even out the cost of running mining equipment?

Assuming the sum costs per mining remain constant (devices get more powerful and energy efficient but we require more of them) in such a way as to saturate the lower bound on the estimate price we want to give bitcoins, we can calculate how much it costs to run today's network. The network is currently mining at ~4000 TH/s. Being generous and granting the whole network a power efficiency of 1 Watt/GH (currently the efficiency advertised for the top of the line KnC Asics), then the total cost of running the network (taking prices of 0.15$/kWh) is of 0.5 $/s!!!!!!!!

This would give a long term lower bound to bitcoins of 0.33 $/BTC.
This is, in my opinion, the true intrinsic value of bitcoins as opposed to the extrinsic estimate we made using the prices of gold as reference.
