1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Overcoming Bitcoin Anxiety on: December 01, 2013, 01:48:54 PM
I'm not an investor, but I'm someone who's recently found part-time "work" which is paid in bitcoins. As a result, I don't have a sizeable balance by any means, but the balance I do have is worth a lot, at least to me, as an otherwise-broke university student.

Despite my relatively small balance, everytime I check my wallet (on Bitcoin-qt or Blockchain.info), I find myself increasingly paranoid that I'm going to see all my bitcoins gone from that wallet.

I'm not somebody who's foolish with my security; my wallet.dat is encrypted, I have 2FA set up on Blockchain, and I haven't downloaded any "loaded" executables in about ten years. Even so, it's really very unpleasant to sometimes have these "anxiety attacks", especially when Blockchain decides to archive my change address and it momentarily looks like my entire wallet balance has disappeared.

Can anyone reassure me that I'm safe, or if I'm not, explain what I'm doing wrong? I'm aware of paper wallets, etc, but as I said, my balance isn't investor-sized (always less than 1 BTC) and I occasionally spend bitcoins from it, so I don't think a paper wallet is the best idea. Plus, my paranoia would probably get the better of me and I know I'd have to check the balance, thereby putting it on the Blockchain.
2  Economy / Services / I will record a song of your choice for BTC on: November 29, 2013, 09:05:21 AM
Hello! I'm an amateur musician who's been making music since 2010. The 'services' market is inundated with offers for programming (which is also a hobby of mine), but I've noticed artists haven't really started offering their services for bitcoins yet - and that's where I step in! I'm happy to record any song, jingle or even voice-recording for a minimum donation of 0.01 BTC (~$10).

Know a song that you've always wanted to sing to someone, but you weren't born with the pipes? I'm your guy! Cheesy I'm happy to dedicate recordings or to read a message before/after the song.

I'm in possession of a pretty solid recording setup (Behringer C1 mic, Audio Technica AT2020 mic, Steinberg CI-1 mixer) so your recording definitely won't be bad quality at all.  I play guitar, ukulele and keyboard (and, of course, sing), and you can ask for any mixture of those on your recording.

Here's some examples of my previous work:

I also write songs on request, but I'll probably ask for a little more than 0.01 BTC for that service.

As long as your request isn't huge (e.g. something that will take 6+ hours of my time to record), I'll upload the song before you send the BTC, so you can turn it down if you aren't completely happy with it.

I hope this takes off!

3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What are your biggest Bitcoin mistakes? on: November 27, 2013, 01:40:01 AM
So this picture from my Localbitcoins.com account history haunts me. If I'd kept that BTC for just a few weeks, I'd have made more than double profit, but instead I spent it straight away! (£98.11 = $159.05 at the time of writing)

As a broke university student, I could really have used that extra cash, but oh well!

Share evidence of your biggest Bitcoin mistakes here Smiley
