1  Other / Off-topic / What's a good site for my Nepalese friend to post relief help pictures? on: May 21, 2015, 06:38:55 PM
I actually haven't posted here in a while because I've been working non-stop at a startup.  But one of my overseas software developers in Nepal became homeless because of the earthquakes and suffered personal tragedies.  And he can't work for us right now because of his situation.
He's tried some crowdfunding sites, but they all require paypal, ssn and it's hard for him to even exchange paypal.

I've introduced him to bitcoin and there's a shipping company next to him that will exchange bitcoin for cash (found it on localbitcoin).

I told him to get some pictures with his family and a QR code:
https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=6fd9df31ced427b4%21391

QR code translated is: 1HG2GQFJJNQf21H7WeD7BFp5CdJDn37AQk

Is there a good place to put this that people can recommend?

I know you could think this is some kind of scam, but I'm been a user here for a little bit, and if you'd like to get in touch with him, I can give you his skype or email.  That's one thing about fundraising like this, it's hard to prove.  Any suggestions about the best way to go about this?

2  Bitcoin / Project Development / BitFloss.com Flaunt your bitcoins! Facebook->Bitcoin Account on: June 03, 2014, 05:06:25 PM
I'm guessing this site is not for everyone.  But now you can attach your bitcoin, or CoinBase Wallet to your Facebook account and show off your wealth!!!
https://www.bitfloss.com/

The main page is a leaderboard, so you can see who has the most.

Show them off and you can probably get more facebook friends.

Can't wait to see the negative comments, let them fly!
3  Economy / Service Discussion / rpc.blockchain.info help rpc calls on: May 23, 2014, 11:10:53 PM
I just wanna do a get info

sorry this is c# wrapper, but
                        string host = "rpc.blockchain.info";
                        string port = "443";
                        string user = "xxxxxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxx";
                        string pwd = "myPasswordForBlockChain";

                    BitnetClient bc = new BitnetClient("https://" + host + ":" + port);
                    bc.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(user, pwd);
                    var jj = bc.GetInfo();

This is with the wrapper suggested, I also tried it without the wrapper and my own web request and it failed.

this is the response i get back:
{"error":{"message":"JSON-RPC method [getinfo] with 0 parameters not found.","code":-32601},"jsonrpc":"2.0"}

I really just want to use the verifymessage call, but I couldn't find a public API that did this.
And I don't want to run bitcoinqt or whatever on my machine.

5  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / How to confirm someone owns an address? on: May 10, 2014, 11:24:47 PM
What would be the best way to prove someone owns an address?
I can ask a person to send me a very small amount of bitcoin and I can check my transactions to see what account it's coming from.

But then if they're using something like coinbase, won't many people send from that same address?  Or that address change over time.
Would a good check be having them send from the same address twice (maybe a couple weeks apart)?
Is there some kind of check to see if the address is a group address?

6  Economy / Service Discussion / Gox.com could come back if it was insured on: February 25, 2014, 06:34:06 PM
Like that wallet backed by loyds of london.  There's still a chance MtGox still has everyone's money or 90% of it.  They probably didn't have enough time to re-write their software, so they stopped all transactions.  Coming back insured by a company like lloyds of london is probably the only way anyone would ever use them again.

Now I know nothing of what's going on and I wouldn't put money on this, but I'm trying to figure out why they bought Gox.com
7  Economy / Service Discussion / Gox.com forwards to MtGox.com on: February 25, 2014, 06:29:39 AM
So I assume it is true that they bought it and add cred to that leaked paper?  Well I guess you could just forward any site to mtgox.com if you wanted, wouldn't see the point though.
8  Other / Beginners & Help / Computer guessing private keys, (I'm sure it's been answered but..) on: January 02, 2014, 06:10:18 PM
Yeah, I know it would take a million years for a computer to guess a private key, but say in the future will money property.... there are 100 billion private keys.
From most of the it's impossible to guess a private key articles, they're talking about guessing 1 high value key.
What if you don't care which key you're trying to crack.  Don't the odds go way down cus there are 100 billion key possibilities?
I assume this is already answered, I'm just wonder the protection or if the odds are still astronomical.
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / A country that embraces bitcoin early will have a lot of rich people later on: December 18, 2013, 07:54:09 AM
All it takes is a couple of countries to realize this for bitcoin to really take off.  Yeah it might be hard to tax now, but you'll eventually get some of it taxed and there will be a trickle down effect on the economy.

10  Other / Beginners & Help / Can a company offer shares for bitcoin? on: December 09, 2013, 07:41:45 PM
What would be the best way to sell company shares on with bitcoin.  Say a company in India has close to $1 mil in shares they want to sell for bitcoins.  Would it be best to talk to someone like coinbase and they might have some solutions, or should they just have people transfer coins to a wallet and send them shares.  Are there some good links for this.

I'm guessing it's not possible to use the data in the blockchains to put the shares in.  So you could just transfer the shares that way.
11  Other / Beginners & Help / What's so bad about keeping money in an online wallet? on: December 06, 2013, 05:45:56 PM
Yeah, I know they can take the money and run, but if it's a large company with many VCs invested it probably better than a paper wallet or flash drive for me.
Some of these online wallets store 90% of their keys and passwords offline, and require a text confirmation everytime you log in.

Now, I'm an idiot (i'm ok technical wise though).  There's probably a 1/100 chance if I do make a paper wallet, or write down the numbers or encrypt it in a hard drive, I'll lose the piece of paper, crumble it, erase my hard drive or do who knows what.

Now if a large US company online wallet goes under or gets hacked, I'm guessing the value of bitcoin would plummet anyway.  Maybe the best thing is to put it in 2 online wallets?

Maybe investing in the Winklevos twins fund once it's open would be the safest, but couldn't their keys get taken too.  Or would that be insured?
