3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin transasction time and fees - What are the solutions ? on: May 18, 2017, 02:38:27 AM

The current unconfirmed transaction growing like crazy.

I would like to know what are the current solution that are available and how and when they could be implemented.

What are the solutions to lower the transaction fee that are currently really high.

I've looked around the forum for answers, but it just confused me more.

So if you could brief up what options are on the table, what will be done, what can be done, and when it could be done, I'm sure that would be some really useful information for a lot of people. Smiley

Edit, May 21st, 2017:

So, for the moment, I see that those are the options available to fix those problems:

SegWit (Segregated Witness)

The changes brought by SegWit are:

-Malleability Fixes
-Linear scaling of sighash operations
-Signing of input values
-Increased security for multisig via pay-to-script-hash (P2SH)
-Script versioning
-Reducing UTXO growth
-Efficiency gains when not verifying signatures
-Block capacity/size increase
-Moving towards a single combined block limit

SegWit would need 95% of the miner approval in order to be implemented.

Currently, there is around 33% approval as you can see here:
http://segwit.co

More information about SegWit can be found here:
https://bitcoincore.org/en/2016/01/26/segwit-benefits/

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Lightning Network

The changes brought by Lightning Network are:

-Instant Payments.
Lightning-fast blockchain payments without worrying about block confirmation times.

- Scalability.
Capable of millions to billions of transactions per second across the network.

-Low Cost.
By transacting and settling off-blockchain, the Lightning Network allows for exceptionally low fees, which allows for emerging use cases such as instant micropayments.

-Cross Blockchains.
Cross-chain atomic swaps can occur off-chain instantly with heterogeneous blockchain consensus rules.

More information about Lightning Network can be found here:
https://lightning.network

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Bitcoin Unlimited

The changes brought by Bitcoin Unlimited:

Bitcoin Unlimited is an attempt to upgrade Bitcoin Core into a client that processes bitcoin transactions into blocks with a potential maximum size greater than the Core's hard-coded limit of one megabyte. Per the advocates of the change, a block size increase is needed in order to avoid a workflow bottleneck due to the number of transactions made as bitcoin adoption increases.

With Bitcoin Unlimited, miners are independently able to configure the size of the blocks they will validate. The software allows the users to adjust it and select the size of blocks they produce. It also allows nodes to choose the size of the block they accept. By default this is set at 16 megabytes. And lastly, it implements a consensus strategy by retroactively accepting larger blocks if a majority of other miners have done so.

Miners using Bitcoin Unlimited continue to process regular-sized blocks but as soon as a block larger than 1 MB is mined, they will follow the chain containing the most work.

Bitcoin Unlimited continues the transaction capacity increase method bitcoin used for much of its existence. Business analyst and cryptoanalyst Eli Avram claimed that 'The "1000000" (1MB), number that Satoshi input into the code follows no real decision point, but rather, a simple round numbered limit, that was never supposed to be reached. Except that we did reach that number, and as a result, many users are now paying well over 1USD per transaction.

Bitcoin Unlimited seems to be a real dividing subject amongst the community and some peoples are scared it would give too much power to the miner itself. Others think the software creator are not up to par with the Bitcoin Core team in term of coding capacity and that the current software is far from being ready.

Those are the current proposal I've seen and I plan to update and correct the OP by reading this thread carefully.

I am learning a lot right now and I like it and I hope this thread will be useful for peoples to get informations on what is planned and the solutions available for the future of Bitcoin.

18  Bitcoin / Project Development / {DEV NEEDED} Cryptolator Private Minikey/Address Sheet Generator for DIY options on: May 18, 2014, 10:49:54 PM
Hi,

I am currently selling my Cryptolator Physical Bitcoins (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=585707.0) and one of the choice when buying it is a DIY options and I would like to have something easy to use for customers that chose to go that way.

I don't know if anyone would be interested to create a little software in Visual Studio 2013 for my DIY option, I already have a little software in Python 2.7 but I think I would like a more robust and easier to use software.

This is how I see it:

This is what every generated key and 8 first char of the address would look like:

When clicking on print, it should print the round private mini key and 8 first char rectangle sheet, also, it should print a list of all the complete addresses on another sheet..

The font used for the text should be monospaced, currently use "Source Code Pro.ttf" and it is perfect.

The final result on the printed sheet should be round of half a inch size and the rectangle should be 0.393700787inch (1 Centimeter)

I'm pretty sure Casascius Bitcoin Address Utility could be used to do almost everything but the code would need to be strip off of everything that is not needed.
You can download it here: http://casascius.wordpress.com/2013/01/26/bitcoin-address-utility/

PM me if you are interested to work on it and we'll discuss about what I can give you in exchange ! Smiley

********* NO MORE COINS LEFT **********

Announcement
Saturday, April 26, 2014
---------------------------------

Today, we are happy to present to you a new physical cryptocurrencies company called "Cryptolator."

We've been working on this project for quite a few months, and after much effort and investment (time and money), we are proud to present the first set, called "Cryptolator - Unchained."

We've been hiring great talent from all over the world for all aspects of the creation, from the first drawing that we've made to the final product. Everything is just perfect.

Coin Front (This is an actual picture of the coin itself)

Coin Package

Information on the Cryptolator - Unchained Series:
---------------------------------

The first series, in Fine Silver, is available right now. This series comes in an air-tight capsule in a leatherette box with a certificate of authenticity.

A maximum of 140 one troy ounce Fine Silver .999 coins will be minted for the first series. This series' denomination is 1 Bitcoin. The size of the coin is 39mm. Each Fine Silver coin will have a gold hologram stating "original" if purchase with multi-signature feature or a non applied silver hologram stating "personal" if you chose to go the DIY way.

All coins have their own serial number, which is engraved on the coin itself. Numbers start at 001 and end at 120.

Each coins will be delivered empty. They can be either funded by us (You provide us the Bitcoin to a given address and we fund it once it has been delivered) or by the customer itself.

Our online tool (https://dashboard.cryptolator.com) can easily tell you if a coin is either empty, partially funded, funded or over funded.

20 Coins have been made without a serial number and four of them will be released for auction on eBay. They will be called (Red, Green, Blue and Yellow). Another will be randomly given to someone who likes and shares Cryptolator's official Facebook page. The 15 others will be for supporters and relatives who believed in this project from the start.

Another series, in shiny brass this time, will be released in the near future. That series will come in an air-tite capsule and will be, of course, a lot cheaper than the Silver series. The denomination on this series is aimed to be 0.1 Bitcoin. You'll have the choice to have it pre-built, with certificate, or in a DIY, without a certificate.

A maximum of 500 brass coins will be minted per series. Brass coins will have the hologram stating Original , if preinstalled with the secret key, or Personal if you go with a DIY kit option.

All silver coins come in a leather box, in an air-tite capsule with two certificates, one from the minter and the other from Cryptolator, including the Public Key, Address, series information and serial number.

Each coin is a piece of art in itself, created by talented artists and imagined by us, at Cryptolator.

Information on Cryptolator plans:
---------------------------------

One series will be created, with a new design every year.

The objective is to make at least one other cryptocurrency the first year from a cryptocurrency that really bring something different and significant or that is widely adopted.

The next years could see more cryptocurrencies if we find that it is relevant to add more.

Every coin will represent our own imagined visions of cryptocurrencies in general or of a particular cryptocurrency.

Security:
---------------------------------

Security is crucial to us. That is why we've worked with talented developers to create a great tool that makes Bitcoin multi-signature easy to use.

Using multi-signature solves the problem of having to trust the person or company creating the physical cryptocurrencies. There are two keys to unlock the coin: the one under the hologram and the one you've created on your side. (You can do it on an offline computer to be sure it can't be compromised.)

We will never see your Passphrase (Your key), and you'll see our Coin Secret (Our key) only by removing the temperproof hologram. You will have the option to print a certificate with your Passphrase, Public Key and Coin Address after the order has been placed. If you chose not to print the certificate, be sure to remember your Passphrase or Password as it will be needed to redeem your Bitcoin in the future.

All key rounds (Coin Secret and Firstbit) are created on a dumb printer (No memory).

The computer is disconnected from the internet and a fresh install of OS X is run.

All keys are inserted right away under a hologram on the back of the coin.

I am the only one with access to those keys from start to finish.

A nice tool has been created to facilitate the verification of the validity of a password and address, create passphrase and public key or get all informations about a specific coin. Some part of this tool can also be used offline for more security. You can find the Online Tool here (https://dashboard.cryptolator.com) and the Offline version can be downloaded here: (https://dashboard.cryptolator.com/Cryptolator_Offline_Dashboard.zip)

---------------------------------

In the "Your public key" textbox, you need to paste the public key that you'll have created here (https://dashboard.cryptolator.com/#generate) or in the Offline Dashboard (https://dashboard.cryptolator.com/Cryptolator_Offline_Dashboard.zip)

It is really important to keep the Password or Passphrase that you created as it will be required to create your certificate and also required to redeem your Bitcoin in the future.

When everything as been filled correctly, click on "Proceed to Paypal" and make the payment.

In less than 12 working hours you will receive an email from us to create your certificate containing your Public Key and Coin Address (You can either enter your password there or not, if you chose not to, be sure to remember this password in some way because it will be needed to redeem your Bitcoin in the future). This certificate can either be printed on a regular printer or in a PDF using a software like PDF Creator (http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/).

In less than 48 working hours, your coin will be shipped.

This solution come with a gold "Original" hologram pre-installed. This solution is the most secure you can get.

Second: Single-key signatures. This way, you have a password, created by us, under the hologram. This solution come with a gold "Original" hologram. This solution also come with a gold "Original" hologram pre-installed.This solution is also secure, but you have to trust us (We create and print the key round on an offline computer and a dumb printer, also, the hard drive is encrypted and files are securely deleted)

Third: DIY. This way, you receive three silver "Personal" hologram (In case you make a mistake applying it on the coin). You need to create your round key and address rectangle to be inserted under the hologram (You can PM me if you want a little software wrote in Python to create them, or you can create them by yourself). 20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / RBC closed my commercial bank account for having Bitcoin related activities. on: March 05, 2014, 06:05:45 PM
I just got a call from RBC (Royal Bank of Canada), they said that they closed my commercial bank account because my activities are related to Bitcoin.

I don't even sell or buy Bitcoins. I create physical encapsuler for physical cryptocurrencies (Not yet released).

I will close all my account at RBC and never deal with those scared crooks anymore.

I would suggest anyone having account with RBC and believing in Bitcoin to do the same.

Anyway, I needed to share that with you. Smiley
