3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Warp Wallet Infused with NXT Brain Wallet on: February 11, 2016, 09:35:56 PM
Was looking for a Bitcoin Warp Wallet setup with NXT and couldn't find one. So decided to just strip out the existing Warp wallet and integrate it into the nxt wallet.

Benefits of Warp Wallet + NXT:

- Remember 1 passphrase to generate your BTC and NXT wallet
- Deters brute forcing of passphrase as its cpu intensive to generate the addresses
- NXT passphrase uses the generated public and private key combined.
- BTC address shows up in your NXT user panel for easy viewing.

Warp wallet code:

Paste the following javascript code in /html/ui/index.html file. Paste it right before the </body tag
http://pastebin.com/idWnDTTy -- Use code with caution. Test it in a sandbox.

I got the code from here: https://keybase.io/warp

Downloaded the single file and stripped out the jquery, and commented out a few lines in the js. Then added in my own JS on the top.

7  Economy / Goods / [WTS] [SELL] Any Electronics Device ■Disassembled to bypass foreign custom fees■ on: December 29, 2015, 06:26:36 AM
I just thought up of this as I had a previous customer that did this. Not sure if anyone else would be up for it. I run a electronics repair shop and one of my customers wanted to buy a bunch of iPhone 6's to ship back to his country in the Bahamas. He said the fees on importing these devices are ridiculously high, which is why it sells for such a high premium in these types of countries. What he requested me to do was have them disassembled piece by piece and ship the casings and everything else separately. So it would not be qualified as an "electronic" device anymore and just seen as scrap parts or just repair parts. Which is a lower import tax for them. The only issue is that someone on the other end has to reassemble them back.

I run a repair shop and can disassemble anything and can ship to anywhere.

PM me if your interested in this setup. I know there are many foreigners here so it might be worthwhile for someone or someone you know to do this for profit. As for reassembly, I can easily walk you through putting it back on the other end.

I would only work with BTC in this setup. As for my trust and rep, I can prove it through my shop and Bitcoin contributions.

10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / CoinOutlet uses NXT on the backend.... Interesting use case. on: October 19, 2015, 05:10:00 PM

11  Economy / Service Discussion / 2015 - Best BTC mixing service? on: August 20, 2015, 07:11:35 PM
As of today, what's a good mixing service for BTC? I buy my coins from coinbase and once in awhile i sell them to my friends that doesn't want to deal with setting up on coinbase. Just to be safe, I don't know what they buy and don't care. But I heard reports that coinbase monitors where your coins go so I don't want to get in trouble if someone decides to buy stuff on the dark market.

Whats the best course of action? Mix my coins? or something else?
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Ethereum Pros/Cons vs NXT Pros/Cons? on: August 08, 2015, 02:39:31 PM
I haven't fully deep dived into Ethereum yet, but for those that have. What are some pros/cons of it? And how does it compare to NXT? Price isn't of a concern as they both are just platforms to build on. The real profit to be made is what's going to sit on top of these.

I know its still new, but what are some planned apps that are being made?

And I just saw this on the nxt forum about the upcoming release to have a 2FA feature.
-----------------

Quote
The features planned for the next hard fork are coin shuffling, account control for phased transactions (which makes an account only allowed to submit phased transactions, requiring the approval of one or more other accounts), and 2FA using hash chains (using one-time hashcodes to approve each account transaction).

This release will however be called 1.7, because in the meantime we are preparing another major release which must be numbered 1.6, upgrade to which will be optional and will not require a hard fork. The main features that will go into this 1.6 release are account ledger (you will finally be able to see the received dividend payments in the client), peer services (being able to fetch expired prunable data from peers that archive them), and asset deletion (which until the 1.7 hardfork will still use an asset transfer transaction internally, to be compatible with 1.5 nodes).
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Just realized right now how an ICO scam can be run... without transparency■■ on: August 04, 2015, 04:39:09 PM
Been doing some research on ICO (initial coin offerings) coins, assets, and companies. And I just realized right now there is nothing stopping the initial stake holders from putting in their own money or Bitcoins into the ICO and then paying themselves back with either a high salary or some other means that look legitimate.

In effect, it would make the ICO look as if it was well funded fooling everyone else into funding the project.

The only way to defeat this type of shenanigans is by having transparency and seeing where all the money came from. If one can track down where most funds are coming from we can avoid these shenanigans.

I'm sure down the line regulation will encapsulate this funding technique eventually and bust everyone that has done this. So its best to stay anonymous if anyone is doing this type of marketing tactic.

Technique seems to be:

1. Show a very promising technology thats on the way.
2. Code up something that seems like it works.
3. Ask for funding and give investors a higher % of return.
4. Show that you raised  millions of dollars to prove large stakeholders are onboard.
5. Pay investors back a large % of their money.
6. Pay yourself and your friends a large salary to get your initial funds back.
7. Profit.

Not a scam necessarily, but one can see it as a very smart marketing tactic. But end result is the uninformed public is left with the bag.

I wonder if all the ICO related companies or devs did this. It's very tempting i'd imagine.

The basic idea is the same as running a crowdfunding campaign where you ask for $1000, but you were only able to raise $700 and its your last day before the campaign ends. What do you do!?!? Put in your own $300 of course just to get the $700 from everyone else. Which is fine for small potatoes like that, but what if it involved millions of dollars? Is it still fair anymore? Or was the public fooled?

Now the question is which ICO's could have executed such a marketing technique to a large extent? Not naming names, its just something i recently realized of how profitable an ICO can be if executed properly.

14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / ■ Things just got a bit spicier!!! Shapeshift + NXT Integration Plugin.... ■ on: August 03, 2015, 03:20:28 AM
The NXT client wallet just became a multi-coin output wallet!.....  Tongue ... once coin shuffle comes into play in the next version of nxt. doesn't this mean every coin just became anonymous by running it through a nxt platform!? ingenious!

# NXT ShapeShift #

* Quickly and simply exchange NXT with other cryptocurrency without registration
* Version 1.0

### Prerequisites ###

* NXT 1.5.14 or higher (the plugin won't work with earlier versions)

### Setup ###

* Download shape_shift.zip only from https://bitbucket.org
* Verify the sha256 hash of the zip
* Unzip shape_shift.zip into your <NXTRoot>\html\ui\plugins folder
* Login to your NXT account and in the settings menu choose "Enable Plugins" = "Yes"
* Logout and login again
* The "Shape Shift" plugin should appear under the "Plugins" menu

### Usage ###

* For each currency pair you can choose one of the following actions "shift" and "pay" which correspond to the "shift" and "sendamount" shapeshift APIs
* Shift - you specify the amount in the deposit currency
* Pay - you specify the amount in the withdrawal currency and shapeshift returns the deposit amount in the deposit currency (this option provides better conversion rate)
* Exchanges are stored locally in the browser cache, therefore when switching a browser or client workstation you will no longer see your exchange history

### Security ###

* As usual with the NXT wallet your passphrase never leaves your local workstation, it is only used as a parameter to the standard SendMoney API
* All other information you enter is shared only with https://shapeshift.io
* shift and sendamount transactions are submitted using the plugin api public key, this enables the plugin developer to diagnose problems without relying on shapeshift itself. This should not compromise your security or anonymity

### Support ###

* This plugin comes with absolutely no warranty
* Post to https://nxtforum.org/nxt-plugins/shapeshift-integration-plugin/
* Contact lyaffe@gmail.com

### Limitations ###

* For funding your account for the first time (account without public key) you have to use the "shift" operation since "pay" does not work
* General

### One More Thing ###

15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / ■Thinking different for Ethereum & NXT - Its the platform, not the coin itself!■ on: July 31, 2015, 09:01:55 PM
As quoted by one of the first few devs that worked with BCNXT (creator of nxt). I'd like to give my opinion on it.

Quote
come-from-beyond 6:21 PM Now, when Coin Shuffle poll is sealed, I can say that MS was a way to create a lot of small communities with their own currency and counteract effect of dumping made by ancient whales. CoinShuffling made exclusively for MS coins was supposed to artificially create demand for MS-coins. The other planned steps according to the "plan" were to remove ability to buy assets/goods with NXT. In the end NXT would become just a ticket that transactions pay to ride blocks.
I think now we can say that legacy of BCNext is over and we are in charge of shaping the future of Nxt. It's very interesting where the journey without a map will lead to...

For those that dont know, nxt has already implemented a sidechains type of concept that Bitcoin is looking to implement. It's called Monetary System or MSCOINS. In the coming months coin shuffling will be coming to NXT, which will anonymous your coins and mscoins.

Having been in this space for some time, we can all agree everyone is just peddling their favorite coin and hope to get rich from the fact that people will adopt it.

We can also agree that everyone wished they got into whatever coin they got into earlier to reap the profits. But no one would have foresaw how a coin could have been where it is today. I'm just talking about any coin in general. Not just nxt.

----------

What if, we all started thinking in a different way. Lets say these "coins" aren't meant to be used as a "currency", but as only as a fee to enable us to use the blockchain platform only. Now on these platforms, could either be nxt, ethereum, bitshares, counterparty, mastercoin, ripple, etc.... These have initial stakeholders, and we can all agree someone is holding a bunch of these coins. What if there was a way to eliminate them by making their stake almost useless? It would be a bit more fair wouldn't it? Now everyone else can kind of get in on the action after the fact.

I think this is the purpose of colored coins or better yet coins that just sit on top of an existing blockchain. Once a sub-coin inside another coin becomes more successful, it would render the host-currency as just a transnational fee or in Ethereum "fuel". It's not meant to be used for payment, as the real value is the services that sit on top of these blockchains.

But there is still one major flaw in all of this. Even if I came up with my own sub-coin, I still need "fuel" or the host currency to utilize the platform. This is still yet to be solved.... And once this is solved, everyone in the know can abandon most of the host-currencies they are holding and flock to the sub-coin. I think this is the ACE card, most of us are forgetting about... Once someone solves this issue, we won't be hearing trolls talk about "unfair distribution" anymore as everyone had the time to get in.

------------------------- This idea came to mind after reading the following, here: https://nxtforum.org/general-discussion/reflexion-about-the-future-of-nxt/msg190194/#msg190194

What is the plan of Nxt?

Until now, we follow the plan of BCnext, it was the development way. But right now, we begin to change the way and I have the feeling that we don't know where we are going.

In my opinion, the BCnext's plan was a good plan. It was a different plan than Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies. The plan wasn't to build the "NXT token" currency but to build an economy and a platform.

I'm ok to kill the father BCnext, but I want to know what we do after that.

NXT token as currency is a dead-end

Actually the big projects in economy is not to "promote my private currency to sell some coins to new guys", this program is the program of Bitcoin supremacists. But it's stupid :
- No big community
- No government/country
- No big company
will choose BTC or NXT tokens or XOS or DOGE as "official currency".

They prefer to create their own currency. Why ? Because it's better for them, because they can rule their own currency, because if they succeed, they get the benefit.
Every body knows this evidence, because they'll do the same if they can choose for their business/country/big community.
But some cryptoenthousiasts are blind and believe that they can be "a global currency". Their wealth dreams makes them blind.

We need to promote and develop MS coin feature

Actually, the ecosystem of Nxt needs new persons, our community needs to grow. But it's easier to convince people to use a platform as to adopt a currency.

Right now people says that they don't see that Nxt is more about NXT as currency as a open platform. If you are in the client, you buy Assets and goods with NXT currency, you count in NXT currency.
You can make nothing with MS coins !!! Not because MS coins is a bad idea, only because that technically you can do nothing in the client with them. You can speculate with it... and that's all... and only with NXT.

And what is the usefullness of currencies ?
- Buying/selling things

NXT tokens will not lose value if its not a currency

Some people are afraid that NXT tokens will lose value if it's lose his "currency" attributes in the platform. But it's not true, a lot of things in real world have value without to be a currency :
- Gold
- tokens in casinos
- land
- houses

And some FIAT currencies don't have any value, despite their legal status as national currency.

NXT tokens have an intrinsic value : it is use for the forge, it is use to pay the fees, it's the referent value of the system (you don't have to pay with NXT token to be the referent value).

Some people are afraid that we will break the Nxt ecosystem if we use MS coins because they have "no value". It's false, we can choose to use pegged MS coins. The system allows to do peg MS coins with NXT tokens.

The assets are a success, let's do it with MS coins

Right now, we never try to promote our HUGE MS coins feature. If we don't give a value to this feature in the system, we can't convince other people from outside to use it. Right now we don't give a chance to MS coins...

The community decision and the future

The community decide to give the "shuffle feature" to NXT token. It's ok, I understand that people want some privacy in their wealth (gold, NXT tokens or currencies).

But I appeal to begin a transition in the Nxt economy : from "NXT token currency" to "MS coin currencies"

The stages are :
- Give all the currencies functions to MS coins : buying/selling Assets and Goods
- During a transition month, we can use NXT tokens and MS coin currencies in Asset exchange and Marketplace
- We can create a big "community MS coins" pegged with a big stock of NXT tokens. It's like a crowdfunding.
- After this transition month, we remove the possibility to buy with NXT tokens in the Asset Exchange and Marketplace.

There is not big risk. After that, the "NXT token believer" can trade on the platform with a pegged MS coins, it's almost the same. And we can promote Nxt as a real Open Platform.

This plan gives a lot of opportunities, with new trade markets. Nxt will be the first cryptoplatform to break with the Bitcoin tradition of "My currency or nothing".

16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Which core wallet coins have their own wallet that works on mobile devices? on: July 24, 2015, 02:47:01 PM
I was wondering which coins have their own wallet that works on mobile devices that are made by the core developers. I'm not talking about 3rd party.

Was wondering how many coins are actually mobile friendly by using only the core software and not a 3rd party.

Change log:

Using cached thread pool for blockchain download and event listeners threads,
resulting in better parallelism and faster blockchain download speeds.

The getAskOrders and getBidOrders APIs now accept an optional boolean
parameter showExpectedCancellations, default false, to show if any of the
orders returned are expected to be cancelled in the next block, based on the
content of the unconfirmed transactions pool and the phased transactions
expected to finish in the next block.

Expected order cancellations are now shown in the asset exchange UI.

The calculate hash modal can now be used for all supported hash algorithms.

Fixed handling of non-ascii characters in the filename for the
DownloadTaggedData API.

Fixed incorrect fees shown in the client for some phased transaction types.
Fixed missing approval button for phased transactions.

Load html page and modal before javascript for plugins.

The exe and jar packages must have a digital signature by "Stichting NXT".

Change log:

Fixed Token validation to check whether the public key matches the one
announced in the blockchain for the same account.

Added compact.sh/compact.bat scripts to compact the database, resulting in
smaller size and possibly better performance. Those should only be run when
the Nxt server is not running.

API improvements:

getAllPrunableMessages, getAssetTransfers, getBlocks, getCurrencyTransfers,
getPolls, getPrunableMessages now allow filtering by block timestamp.

Many APIs now support requireBlock and requireLastBlock optional parameters.
If either of those is specified, it is guaranteed that the specified block is
present in the blockchain, or the specified last block is the current last
block, and the blockchain state does not change, while the API request is
being executed. An error is returned otherwise.

Added getExpectedAskOrders, getExpectedBidOrders, getExpectedAssetTransfers,
getExpectedBuyOffers, getExpectedSellOffers, getExpectedCurrencyTransfers,
getExpectedExchangeRequests, getExpectedOrderCancellations.
Those return the corresponding orders, transfers, or offers, that are expected
to be executed in the next blocks, based on the current content of the
unconfirmed transactions pool, and the phased transactions planned to finish
in the next block, in the order in which they are expected to be executed.
It is not guaranteed that the next block will indeed contain exactly those
transactions and in the same order, as this is up to the block forger.
It is also not possible to know in advance if the phased transactions expected
to finish in the next block will be approved or rejected.

getAccountExchangeRequests now excludes the phased exchange requests that have
not yet finished, or have not been approved, and the timestamp field now
contains the block timestamp of the block in which the exchange request was
executed, rather than the transaction timestamp.

getPollVotes and getPollVote now accept includeWeights parameter, default
false, to calculate and display the weight assigned to each vote in the poll
results.

Added Hash API, for calculating the hash of a secret using any of the
supported hash functions, which can be used for deriving the hash in by-hash
phasing. See getConstants for the list of supported hash functions.

For running over tor, or other socks proxy, the socksProxyHost and
socksProxyPort parameters can now be specified in the nxt.properties file
instead of having to include them in the command line.

Performance improvements, allowing table trimming to be done in parallel with
blockchain download.

Added UPnP support, enabled by default for the peer port and disabled for the
API port, using the nxt.enablePeerUPnP and nxt.enableAPIUPnP properties.

Added a warning on startup if nxt.myAddress is set but does not resolve to any
of the external addresses found, including those discovered using UPnP.

More links to the wiki tutorials in the help menu.

System tray status dialog now refreshes every second when visible.

Client UI:

The asset exchange page now displays unconfirmed orders as well as phased
orders that are expected to be executed in the next block.

The monetary system page now displays unconfirmed exchange requests and offers
as well as phased requests and offers that are expected to be executed in the
next block.

Phasing modals "None", "By Transaction" and "By Hash" were implemented as part
of the advanced section of transaction modals.

Calculate hash modal is now available in the settings menu. Use it to calculate
hash values for "By Hash" phasing model.

Added "Admin Password" field to the client settings. Set it to the server admin
password to allow the client to automatically determine its forging status when
connected to a remote node.

Peer modal dialogs now use the admin password specified in the client settings
as default value.

Forging indicator is displayed in Gray instead of Red when the forging status
cannot be determined by the client when connecting to a remote node without
specifying a correct admin password.

Forging indicator tooltip, now displays further information about the forging
status.

Transaction info dialog correctly follows links between matching bid and ask
orders and links from vote to poll.

Marketplace usage warning and a corresponding, marketplace enablement
setting has been implemented.

Finding and obtaining talented developers for NXT by integrating their coins into the SuperNet is a very smart move.

This is how kingdoms are built, good job.

Perfect use of the Monetary System (color coins) feature in NXT... only problem.. it requires NXT to send those coins out... seems to be an inherit problem with all colored coin tech..

Bob sends Jane 100x Greece Coins that sits on some other blockchain.... but Jane doesnt have any of the native coins to send those coins back out.... FAIL...  until someone comes up with a solution.

Would be good if there was some type of service that auto filled Jane's wallet with just enough of the native currency every day to do some transactions.
