So a mining pool has thousands of miners all working for it. They find a block and the mining pool is responsible for paying out the individual miners' shares, and keeps (for example) 1% in fees.
How is the mining pool taxed for income when all individual miners are responsible for their own income tax?
Let me use an example.
Let's say we have Pool X and they're all mining Vertcoin. A block is found and 12.5 VTC is awarded to the mining pool. The current value in USD is $71.50. Is the mining pool on the hook for realizing that $71.50 as taxable income? Even though they will eventually give it away to miners, who are then also expected to pay income tax on their shares?
Or is the pool only going to report their 1% fee as income?
In a normal business setting, an "employer" would have to receive a "contractor's" SSN and send them a 1099, but there's no way current mining pools do that, which means they might be responsible for that full amount, which worries me. How do they handle this?
Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I'm in a rough spot. Just got laid off from my company today and in desperate need of revenue. So now I'm trying to make up for it by dusting off my old affiliate links, and the first one I can honestly recommend is Host Gator for web space. I've been using them for about 4 years now, and they have great tech support and reasonable rates. You get Cpanel, PHPMyAdmin, and all that good stuff. If you are planning on getting hosting, I would please ask that you go through my site to try it: http://bitcoinsurf.netIf you PM me, I can give you a custom coupon code that will give you an additional $9.94 off your order. If you want to pay for hosting using Bitcoins, PM me, and we can discuss an exchange. Any help would be greatly appreciated

So I am taking btc from one computer to another, but forgot to include a transaction fee... Now the payment is gone from that computer, but is not showing up in the other. Did I screw the pooch or is it just going to take longer to transfer? http://blockexplorer.com/address/1Pxfk2msxLMLs37mARW7tDTPjzzymRnr3GNot showing up here either. It's been about 15 minutes.

I got into mining about 2 weeks ago and decided to upgrade to something more powerful now that I've got my money back mining with this little guy. Great for noobs who want some bitcoins with mining but don't want to invest a lot of money in equipment. I've been able to overclock it to get about 300 Mh/s (see screenshot for specs). I'd like 5 BTC. Price includes shipping inside continental USA, but will need more $$$ for shipping outside of US. Comes with box and all original cables/manuals. UPC cut out for rebate purposes. Let me know if you have any questions.

Ok, so I bought 2 5830's and have them crossfired on my main PC, and I bought a 5850 because the 5830s were sold out, and I put that alone on another PC. All are XFX brand.
So I am able to clock my 5830's to 1010 mhz and get about 300 mh/s, but when I tried overclocking my 5850, I could only get it up to 900 mhz and it kept crashing the computer and blue screening it. Then I started getting hard core artifacts, and finally it just died. I can no longer boot that computer, nothing is coming up on the screen.
After only 1 day, the 5850 is dead and I don't know why. The temps never got above 70* C.
I used ATI Tray tools to up the voltage, and TRIXX to up the clock rate.
Am I screwed? What's the deal with 5850s? I was getting 350 mh/s before it died on me, and it would be nice to have that again... Anything I can do?

One of the biggest barriers to getting into bitcoins is the tedious process of going through several payment processors to actually get the bitcoins... Besides cash itself, the other alternative I can see would be money orders where you know that you can cash it without having to worry about check fraud and waiting for it to clear.
So, why don't more exchanges have this as an option?

Hi,
I was wondering how these websites can generate a unique Bitcoin address and have that bitcoin address associate to their wallet so they are the only ones that can receive the funds... Is there some sort of open source PHP or API available that can handle this?

Submitted for your approval: http://bitcoinsurf.netA Bitcoin messenger that allows users to send messages based on a Bitcoin address. Messages can be retrieved by simply typing in the Bitcoin address you want to view. There are no usernames or passwords, so anyone can view the messages. The only data that is stored is the date/timetamp, the message, and the Bitcoin address. I've added Captcha to avoid unwanted spam. Please add feedback or suggestions I'm hoping to eventually turn this site into a full service Bitcoin social network of sorts... "Social" being a relative term, since it's all anonymous

Hi,
I need an experienced PHP programmer that can create a script that will generate a simple PDF report form dynamically using variables as placeholders. All I need is the basic PDF generation script and placeholder variables that I can modify myself to integrate into my current project.
Will require a simple bar chart. I have a screenshot of a template that it will be based on. Shouldn't take more than a day.
Please PM with time estimate and rate and we'll work out a deal.

Ok, so I have been half-@ss mining with my Geforce GTX 580, getting 120 MH/s and I am looking for an upgrade. My overall goal is to make at least enough to pay for rent, which is $600 a month. Using the mining calculator, I figure I need to be running at least 620 MH/s ( not taking difficulty and exchange rate changes into consideration)... Now, I'm looking at investing in a new graphics card, but here's my situation. I have a computer just sitting here with i5 CPU and about 6 gigs of ram, and on-board graphics card (which is crap), and I have my main computer with the GTX 580. Now, I know that difficulty increases has made mining less profitable, but would it be worth it to go nuts and spend $450 on a Radeon 5870 and put it in the old computer? or just get 2 5830's for $100 each and put one in each computer? I plan on joining a pool, so it's not like I'm trying to solo here on 600 MH/s

Hi, I have a simple question I can't seem to find a solution for...
I'm building a site in PHP that involves btc donations. What I'm currently thinking is if a user wants to donate, the site will generate a new bitcoin address and tell the user to send donation to that address... but I don't know how to do that, and I can't find any tutorials.
Could someone point me in the direction as to how I can create random/valid BTC addresses using PHP? And once those web addresses are created, how can I tell the bitcoin client for the person receiving the donation to actually be authorized to receive payment?
I'm trying to make this as simple as possible, and I don't want to act as a middleman handling people's donations. I simply want the money to go from A to B.
Thanks!
