1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Where is Litecoin wallet.dat in Linux?? on: December 30, 2013, 08:44:46 PM
I have downloaded Litecoin-QT, waited it to sync with the network, and tested some mining with CGminer & P2Pool. Even that I mined few hours with about 1400kh/s yesterday, I don't still see anything on my wallet. And, I also tried to search for for the wallet.dat- file from my Linux, but there isn't such file anywhere in the system.

I thought that this wallet.dat is generated automatically when client is started, but isn't it so?? What should I do to generate a wallet, and get my Litecoins from P2Pool to it? I have checked many times that the username (=wallet address) in the CGminer's configuration file is correct.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Problem with Litecoin mining?? on: December 29, 2013, 04:49:04 PM
How come my Win7 PC with 2 * R9 290 is able to mine only something like 14Kh/s?? I startted cgminer 3.7.2 with --scrypt- option, and the result is:

3  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Question about powered risers on: December 21, 2013, 09:33:07 PM
Everywhere it is said that you MUST have a powered risers if you are going to use more than 3 GPUs per mining rig. Now that I got my Asus R9 290's, I noticed that there is a separate PCIe power input in them.

So I'm just wondering; what exactly is the purpose for the powered riser, vs. one without a power? Are powered ones needed only with some older GPUS's without a dedicated power input? Do ALL R9 cards (270,280,290) a PCIe power input, so there wouldn't be a need for a powered version of the riser at all?
4  Bitcoin / Mining support / Mining directly to exchange account? on: December 17, 2013, 08:22:36 PM
Is it possible to mine coins directly to the account in some exchange (such as Cryptsy)? Or do I always need an own wallet for every coin that I'm mining, and then deposit them from my wallet to the account?

Since I would like to mine a few different coins and also do some trading between them, it would much easier to get them directly to the trading account.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Number of cards without powered risers? on: December 12, 2013, 07:35:19 AM
How many graphics cards (R9 280x) can motherboards handle without any powered risers? I think 2 is OK with any MB, but how about 3? Or is there any specific MB model that could handle even more of them?
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Do all GPU's have to be same model?? on: December 11, 2013, 02:31:16 PM
When building a mining PC with multiple GPU's, is it possible to use different graphich cards on the same machine? For example, could I mix Radeon 280, 290 and 7970 from different manufacturers??

Or do they all have to be *exactly* the same model?
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Any hints for first setup with 2 GPU“s? on: December 06, 2013, 10:07:39 AM
I would like to build a new PC, both for everyday surfing and to study some altcoin mining. Since I would like to use basic PC casing, I think that 2 GPU's is maximum. And I also think it's just fine for learning purposes.

Could you please give me some hints about good value/price setup for this purpose? What should taken in account with the components?

My current understanding is:

- CPU does not matter much, maybe some cheap Core i5
- 8 GB's of RAM would be just fine
- For GPU's I think 2 7970's would be fine. Is there any difference between manucafturer's/models?
- How about motherboard; is there any other requirement than 2 PCIe slots? Any hints for some good model?
- How about power supply; how much wattage needed for 2 GPU's?
- Does 2 GPU's set any requirements for casing/cooling?

Thanks already!
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Linux vs. Windows in mining? on: December 04, 2013, 04:45:58 PM
I'm thinking between the Linux and Windows clients for mining some altcoins, so could you please help me with few questions. I have used Linux a bit, but I'm not so familiar with it and it seems to be quite difficult OS when solving any potential problems. So;

- Is there any difference in mining performance between Linux based client and Windows client, on the same hardware?
- How much memory & harddrive do typical Linux or Windows clients need for mining?
- Which OS would you recommend, and why?
9  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Multicurrent vs. dedicated? on: December 04, 2013, 04:39:31 PM
If I would like to buy some altcoins, would you recommend using some multicurrent client such as ufasoft (or some other), or is there any reason for using own wallets for every currency?

And how about mining; is it possible to mine different altcoins with one client, or should there be own client per currency?
10  Other / Beginners & Help / Few newbie questions on: December 03, 2013, 01:37:21 PM
Hi all!

I have been reading about crypto currencies for several weeks now, and I have a few questions to get started:

- Is there any performance difference between some Linux based clients vs. Win client?
- How much memory & harddrive do typical Linux or Windows clients need for mining?
- If I want to mine/buy a few different currencies, would you recommend some multicurrency client, or own client for every currency?
- I'm not quite sure if I understood the difference between a "wallet" and "client"? Do I need a wallet application for storing the currencies, and a separate mining app for such purpose?

Thanks guys & gals!
