Hallo zusammen,

2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / DUPE: Currency symbol for Bitcoin on: June 08, 2011, 11:36:07 AM
Hi everybody,

the search function turned up nothing about this topic, but if there is another thread, please excuse.

I have seen various symbols popping up for Bitcoins recently, apart from calling them "Bitcoins" or using the seemingly-ISO-4217-compliant code "BTC". Bitcoin Mining Calculator uses the Thai Baht (฿), which in my opinion is a bad choice. It would prohibit everybody from Thailand to display exchange rates correctly. What's the Bitcoin/Baht ratio abbreviated? ฿/฿?

Now, what to use? I just came across http://cablesaurus.com/, which uses Unicode codepoint U+0243 (Ƀ), which personally I find attractive for the following reasons:
  • It's not a currency symbol yet, no conflicts
  • It's similar to a currency symbol, being derived from a common letter
  • It's like a B, which stands for ... you guessed right! Bitcoin!

Are there any more symbols floating around? If so, shouldn't we decide on an "official" symbol to represent the Bitcoin?

Kind regards
Yeti

P.S.: Nevermind, I found the thread. *facepalm*
