1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Something of note... The slow decline of the crytpocurrency market cap on: February 12, 2014, 05:15:37 AM
I just thought this is something to ponder over. On the website: http://coinmarketcap.com/ at the bottom is currently displayed: Total Market Cap: $ 10,884,292,471.

Now this seems 'Wow', but in the last 2 months it has slowly gone from over 14Bil Market Cap to 11Bil, and this is despite the fact that the list of coins was (very roughly) 60, they've since added 40 more alt-coins but the total cap has dived by 50%.

Does this mean the market is diversifying to a massive extent (including the many coins not listed), or has apathy hit the market and people are slowly removing themselves from the cryptocurrency market?

* please note my figures are very rough, but the point still stands.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Coin Concept: LifeCoin on: January 10, 2014, 03:37:44 AM

There's a real plethora of coins at the moment with only a couple actually trying to make a difference in this world.

So here's my idea for a coin (I'm not making this, I'm just trying to plant a seed in others minds), it's simple but could actually make a difference to real people.

  • 182 Millions coins
  • Scrypt based
  • 1% premine

Straight-forward so far right? Now here's the good part, the 1% premine will be sold off. Every single day 1000 coins are sold for real world dollars, and this will happen every day for 5 years. What will happen with this money? Well charity of course! Every single day 1000 coins will be converted to real world money and donated to cancer research (something that affects us all).

The thing that makes this so fantastic is you can be a miner, you can be an investor or you can just be someone trying to buy a latte using your lifecoins, and simply by doing these things you're helping raising money for charity (by making the coin worth more), just by mining a coin and trying to make money for yourself you're indirectly helping a charity.

So ask yourself, which coin would you choose? The one that makes you a few $$$ or one that makes you a few $$$ but also directly supports life saving research every single day for 5 years?
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Made a new website: whatarelitecoins.com on: December 30, 2013, 01:29:44 AM
I thought you guys might be interested in a website I made a few weeks ago: www.whatarelitecoins.com. It's a complete beginners guide to Litecoins and gives some advantages and disadvantages of the coin over bitcoin. It's more of a promotional site than an indepth infosite, though it might help some of the complete newcomers out there.
