1  Other / Off-topic / Funds for Adoption on: June 27, 2011, 06:58:39 PM
I am just curious if people would be interested in helping my wife and I pay for adopting a child with bitcoins?

I am working with my church and the adoption agency that we're probably going with (we're still deciding which to use) to see if we can make these donations valid IRS write-offs for those in the USA.

Each donor -- no matter how much they contribute -- would receive regular updates as we go through this process.

The current top 5 donors would be thanked in every post I make as part of my signature.  All donors will be thanked in each update.

If you are interested in helping, please let me know and I'll send you an address for donations.
2  Economy / Services / Free for Donations - SQL, PL/SQL, Informatica Development Answers on: June 27, 2011, 03:17:03 AM
I am a database developer for a living.  I have extensive experience developing in SQL, PL/SQL, and Informatica.

If you have any questions about any of these topics, please feel free to send them to me.  I'll send you the best answer or help I can for free with a bitcoin address that you're free to use for a donation.

If it helps, toss me a tip.  If it doesn't, you haven't lost a thing.  Smiley
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / MtGox Live Question on: June 14, 2011, 06:26:17 PM
Does the part I circled in red (where the green line is to the left of the orange line) indicate dark pool transactions?

4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How long do Dwolla funds take to get to MtGox? on: June 14, 2011, 12:49:28 AM
The subject basically asks it all -- I transfered some money from dwolla to mtgox a while ago and was wondering how long this hop takes?

Setting up the account took several days...  Doing the initial move from my bank to dwolla took several days...  Please tell me this last hop is quick!
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Your Opinion on Tipping on: June 13, 2011, 01:36:58 PM
I know what my opinion is -- but I was curious how other people felt about tipping.

For myself, I'd do it if there wasn't a transaction fee.  I don't have enough bitcoins to give large tips, sadly.
6  Bitcoin / Mining / BTCs for 1 Ghps? on: June 10, 2011, 03:31:08 AM
I understand that the algorithm will continue to get more and more complex...  ...but in recent weeks, about how many bitcoins can you earn with 1 Gigahashes per second of computing power?

8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / MtGox - Can you sell portions of a bitcoin? on: June 08, 2011, 01:43:14 AM
Are you allowed to transfer a portion of a bitcoin to MtGox?  Are you also then allowed to sell that portion of a bitcoin?

(I am new and have only tried this with even bitcoins.)
9  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Any guess when 0.3.22 will be available for the Mac? on: June 07, 2011, 02:13:01 AM
The topic kinda covers it.  Does anyone know when 0.3.22 will be available for the Mac?
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Calculating the BTC/USD Exchange Rate on: June 06, 2011, 11:19:09 PM
I want to determine how many bitcoins to charge someone for some goods.

What is the accepted, fair manner for determining the exchange rate?

For example, right now at mtgox it says:

Last Price: 18.55High:19.23Low: 16.375Volume: 56399

It doesn't really say a concrete exchange rate -- just the ranges from today's trading and the price of the last trade they processed.

Is there somewhere else I should look?
11  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Meridians for BTC - collectible jewelry for men and women LOWER PRICES on: June 06, 2011, 02:47:51 AM
UPDATE:  I changed it so you get all 10% off that I get with my discount code.  (It had been that I get 2% and you saved 8%.)

Meridians are a fun fad that's spreading across the globe.  They are stainless steel disks with a word or phrase burnt onto them.  They may be tracked online as they are traded from person to person!

For 1 0.94 BTC (by the current rate), you would get one meridian delivered to you in the United States.  For other countries, the cost is 1.2 1.15 BTC.

Necklaces are also available.  Shown in this picture is a metal bead and a dark brown leather necklace.  Also available are tan and black leather necklaces.  The necklaces cost an additional 0.3 0.27 BTC.  The necklaces include a special clip that holds a meridian securely, yet allows you to slip it off and trade it with a friend!

This price is less than their official website sells Meridians for!  (I have a 10% discount code and my goal is to give you 8% of the discount and I'll take 2% -- I think that's fair -- and if it isn't, please politely let me know -- my goal is to make some bitcoins and not to take advantage of anyone you get all 10% off!  Basically, I am doing this as a way to get some bitcoins -- not to make a profit.)

Delivery takes about 6 days in the US and about 2 weeks outside of the US.

12  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Any interest in Magic: the Gathering cards? on: June 05, 2011, 08:55:44 PM
I have a lot of older (beta, unlimited, revised) Magic: the Gathering cards for sale.

Would anyone be interested in them?

Being new to the land of bitcoins, I was thinking of starting small...

Perhaps, 1 copy of each basic land from the BETA expansion (so 3 of each land type, 15 cards total) for 1.5 BTC.

This price would include shipping to the US.  For other destinations it would cost 2 BTC.

If interested, I can scan the cards and send you a link to the pictures.  They'd be sent using the US postal service.
13  Other / Obsolete (selling) / WTB Bitcoins in person, northern Chicago suburbs on: June 05, 2011, 08:33:33 PM
I live in the north Chicago suburbs.  Does anyone have some BTCs for sale?  I figure we could meet at a place with public wifi and exchange cash for BTCs at the going rate.

Please PM me if interested.
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / At 1169 khash/sec, is it worth mining? on: June 05, 2011, 05:17:20 PM
Is there any chance of making any bitcoins when my computer chugs along at 1169 khash/sec?

I don't know how good/bad that is.  I know it is nothing compared to dedicated mining machines.  Smiley
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / So, I have some bitcoins... ...now what? on: June 05, 2011, 04:50:42 PM
I am basically wondering what I could do with bitcoins.  I don't buy/sell drugs or other illegal stuff.  I don't have a big international money exchange need...  I don't live in a third world country that doesn't have a stable economy...

...so what now?

I am amused with the idea of the currency, and cryptography has always been an interest of mine -- but so far I don't see an advantage of bitcoins for me.

Is there anything similar to eBay that uses bitcoins?  I'd give that a try if it exists...
