1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / HD7970 gets lowish (420-520) kh/s. Tried everything...suggestions? on: December 18, 2013, 10:10:10 AM
Hi all!

So. First card I have to give up upon. I usually manage to get decent values that are in the upper ranges of what can be achieved with my other cards (7790, 7770 and 7750) whilst mining scrypt.

So. This is a 100% fresh install Win7 on E5200 c2d, powersupply is a high quality 520w Corsair 80+.
I have tried two other cards in this system and they worked flawlessly and with high performance.

At first replacement with the Sapphire 7970 (SAPPHIRE HD 7970 3GB GDDR5 (21197-00)) I managed to get 560kh/sec with the standard, optimal settings:
-I 13 -g 2 -w 256 --thread-concurrency 8192 --gpu-powertune 19
Driver : ATI 13.9, stock bios.

I found this to be quite low, so I tried fiddling with settings. Nothing seemed to work, so I flashed improved/recommended 3072.1.20926 bios.
This made results worse - I was stuck at 420kh/sec now.

I flashed back to original bios. With identical settings as before I got 560kh/sec again. I flashed a different bios that was recommended. 420kh again...
Unfortunately after flashing back to stock bios, rates were stuck at 420kh/sec (99% gpu usage).

Tried every clock speed between stock and 1080/1550 (mild improvement in kh/sec but nothing major)
Tried 0-20 powertune.
Tried under/overvolting.
Tried fanspeed @ 100% and opening window (temps <65c)
Tried installing 13.9, 13.11, 13.10 drivers (with and without driver sweeper in between)

Finally I gave up. I tried some more settings and found out that setting gpu to 1 instead of 2 threads at least gave me 519kh/sec @ 94% gpu util.

I really don't know what to do. I even flashed MSI bios that gave no better performance. It's like this card is bewitched..

If anyone wants to help out - I'd be happy to accept. Teamviewer access is possible.

2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / The Curious Case of the 7790 card : Less MHz...more khashes! :) on: December 14, 2013, 08:46:14 PM
Well.

I was wondering who else here mines with the lowly 7790. I do, because I could get them cheap and their noise/heat levels are very low (and higher-end cards were unavailable here due to the mining-rush Wink.

Now, the strange thing is as follows :

1000/1500 MHz (core/mem) : 219khash
850/1500 MHz : 250khash

Overclocking yields no gain in performance whatsoever, and often actually results in less khash than stock speeds even. Temperatures of the card always at every point stay under 59c.

My experiences with other cards (albeit limited) is that increases in MHz yield some increase in performance. I've tried various drivers, the 12.10 Performance drivers giving the best performance (254khash) but due to compatibility with a secondary card in the system I have reverted to using the latest 13.9 driver. The beta driver did not perform better, so I removed it for stabilities sake.

If anyone can shed some light on the 7790 case..would be welcome.

3  Economy / Goods / RARE : Negative rolfilm (120) + 4x5" Sheet slide film megasale on: December 13, 2013, 01:01:52 PM
Hi all!

I am offering what will possibly be the first ever sale of medium format and 4x5" technical camera films in exchange for cryptocurrency.

I am offering this here [rather than the more conventional ebay] because I want to contribute to the maturity of the cryptographic based monetary systems. I believe that cryptocurrencies will be the most effective and private way to conduct online trade, making transitional 'digital' services like PayPal a thing from the past sooner or later.

I am a documentary/art photographer and have stocked up on a batch of rare, high quality 120 film from now-bankrupt AGFA Company. This batch was initially for a future pet-project of mine, but I have since then been working in regions that are too remote and too warm to rely effectively on analog film equipment (sadly;).

Quality medium format camera's can be purchased for $50 (Yashica 6x6 folders for example). I do however think these rolls are more suitable for the advanced amateur or professional photographer due to their rarity and quality of image they provide.

1) 55 rolls of AGFA Optima, 120 film
Sold per 10 units minimum. Price : I am open to bids
- One of the last batched produced : Expire date of 08/2007 !
- Always kept refrigerated to stabilize colors
- Highly valued on Ebay ($8-12 per roll, usually of older stock and only 1-4 rolls)
- Gives unique and wonderful contrast/colors. Somewhat similar to Polaroid Timezero films.

A few sample photos (do not judge sharpness which are camera-related, just colors)

1) 3 rolls of AGFA Portrait 160, 120 film
Price : Equiv. value in cryptocurrencies (any) of +- $20 / €15 for all three.
- Expire date of 02/2006
- Always kept refrigerated to stabilize colors
- More subdued, gloomy colors and contrast compared to Agfa Optima above.

1) 2Boxes of 10 sheets each of 4x5" Kodak Ektachrome 64T slidefilm
Price : No idea. This is rare stuff. Please make an offer!
- Expire date of 01/2005
- Always kept refrigerated to stabilize colors
- Tungsten color-balanced. Give blue, sci-fi colors outside. Can be combined with simple $5 warming filter to get more regular colors.

All items are located in Holland, but can be sent world-wide. Type of sending (slow mail, registered, air, dhl etc) is yours to choose / pay for. I can provide details that will assure safety of trade - I have been verified by over 150 buyers through one of Holland's most prominent geek websites (Tweakers.net) where I have 100% positive trading ratings on my profile since more than a decade.

Questions? Do not hesitate to ask.
