1  Other / Meta / Forum Moderation - :( - Public Archives on: September 07, 2011, 08:15:56 PM
Hey, could all non-spam bot posts that get deleted go into a public forum, locked for topics/replies? It might help me, and others with teh same worries as I haev, to be less worried about mis-moderation. (I'm unsure of the correct term).
2  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / <0.01 change - Why is this given away as a fee? on: July 23, 2011, 07:48:09 AM

3  Economy / Goods / Buying unused 60 day EVE online Time Code with BTC on: July 21, 2011, 05:28:05 PM
I'd like to buy an EVE online TC with BTC.

Anyone interested in selling? I can't purchase until saturday, if it matters.

http://www.shatteredcrystal.com/code.php/eve_online - One site selling

http://evecodes.com/ - Another

If you'd sell, tell me how much BTC you'd charge and I'll hopefully be able to say "yes, I'll purchase that". If you're well-trusted, I'll give my BTC to you first, otherwise, I'll try to get a well-trusted person to act as an escrow?(Anyone willing to do this?)
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Fees - do they work? on: June 30, 2011, 01:15:52 PM
It seems, now, that it won't be a very long itme until we hit the 25BTC/block point.

Just now, I see in the blocks Eligius gets, never more than 1BTC in fees, and few with more than 0.2.

Will fees really be enough, as an incentive to mine, in the future? Is the current 0.0005 enforced TX fee by the default client per KB >27 large enough/small TXs large enough?

I've probably misunderstood something completely, or am forgetting something important, sp please point out what I'm doing wrong. I also haven't considered exponential growth in the number of people using bitcoin...

6  Other / Off-topic / On youtube I saw... on: June 23, 2011, 11:06:35 PM
Post strange/funny/weird/confusing/whatever? youtube comments!

"In Soviet Union in 1988 there were alternating current transmission lines on 1150kV with huge transformers which have developed in the end of 1960-1970,and 1500kV of a direct current. In America till now only 500kV and an electric network of 110V instead of 220-240V,as in Russia and all countries of Europe, the former USSR for reduction of a current strength. Not clearly, what for in America such strange standard, and 60 Hz instead of 50 Hz and only 110V?!!! In Russia 230/400V (220/380V) 50Hz.
Stupid Americans! This intended short circuit of a phase wire on the earth of a transmission line of 500 kilovolt a thin wire by means of the fishing scaffold thrown through a wire. What computer graphics?! Not without reason in the USSR there was the best formation. The iron wire in diameter of 4 mm forming on air a smoke of brown color evaporates. Click after short short circuit-inclusion of automatic repeated inclusion of a line. Morons."

"in the idiocratic usa, circuit fuck u"
7  Economy / Economics / BTC hit 120 PLN, (217/156 as valuable as MtGox high) - did anyone notice? on: June 22, 2011, 04:11:47 PM
TL;DR: Read it, I'm not writing a TL;DR. If you can't be bothered to read it, don't reply to it. :/

120PLN is FAR more than the MtGox high... (If you use days, the high is ~95... but still more!)

It seems polish people are more confident in bitcoin than americans, they have a higher peak (yes, I did conversions :/), and currently, even when most places are low, are trading at about the same value as Mt Gox traded at before the hax flash crash thingy)! Smiley

Even us British people are more confident than TH's current value, BTC at ~10GBP, which is ~16/14 as valuable as TH!

If you look at dollar values, these are 43.4(120 PLN), 34.4(95PLN), and 16.1(10GBP).

Data from bitomat and britcoin.

These markets are also more stable. (Although one could say that britcoin shouldn't count, due to its ultralow volume.... It did temporarily hit 100GBP on a micro-bit trade, for example! Tongue)

Discuss!(And shout at me?)

edit: Edited for clarity.
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Public Safety Announcement: On the subject of password security on: June 19, 2011, 08:36:43 PM
Please, service providers...  Use the best possible solution available!

If you can use multiple SHA512 hashes with each different unique salts form different sections of passwords... do it! If you can run that same thing 5 passes... do it!

Don't just go with MD5 + usalt because "no-one will ever get the database". Always prepare for the worst case scenario. HAve graceful hash updates! If a better hashing method becomes available, make users reset their password! (Or have it be done automatically on log in using submitted password for 30 days, and after that time, require reset.)

Thanks for listening, do shout at me if you think this is stupid advice! Smiley

10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / (maybe?)Bitparking - apparent issues on: June 17, 2011, 10:55:26 PM
I recently sold 64.87 NMC on bitparking namecoin exchange, and received 4.24 BTC.

However, someone else, bought from me:

06/18/11 10:52:31   buy   0.06500000   81.42000000   5.29230000

Bitparking is selling that which it does not have, it appears...?

That, or a reporting gitch, but I don't know... Be careful! Tongue
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Namecoin mining no longer more profitable :( on: June 17, 2011, 04:34:03 PM
Namecoin mining is no longer more profitable than mining for BTCs.

The "gold rush" is over! Tongue
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / "Eligius - the only pool that finds blocks when it's down" ~luke-jr on: June 14, 2011, 09:56:23 PM
Yes, that's right, ladies and gentlemen....

Eligius-US found a block while DOWN!

Preliminary calculations state that the chances of this happening are 1/(1/0), or 1/(1/(0/0)).

Additionally, EU pool is also... 2.8/247s as lucky as US.

14  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / XFXREV2. 5770 3/2 OC! 240MH/s at $99 on: June 12, 2011, 08:38:08 PM
Using Saphire Trixx oldest version available on their site, and afterburner,
set Voltage to: 1.25V in Trixx

Memory clock 300, in afterburner

Core clock 1085. (ab)

Is this the best possible MH/s/$?

15  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Make UPNP enabled by default? on: June 12, 2011, 01:46:26 PM
Unless this has changed in the latest release(I'll check ina minute Tongue), why shouldn't it be enabled by default?

Many people have routers with UPNP support, and enabling it would allow new users who don't know what it is, or haven't looked in the options, to get more than 8 connections.

17  Other / Meta / Non-bumping reply? on: June 12, 2011, 12:16:29 AM
Would adopting the ability to reply to something without putting it right back at the top of the forum be a good idea?

It may help with the recent outburst of trolling...?
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / ANTI-BUBBLE: Scientifically proven to be less stable than anti-matter on: June 11, 2011, 02:26:33 PM

I'll send 0.25BTC to the person posting the one I deem to be "best" Smiley

Don't include the cards, cases, or PSUs.
20  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / More blocks per week, less generated per block... Why not? on: June 10, 2011, 09:10:31 PM
Would it not be better if there were more blocks found per week, but each = less generated bitcoins? As then shopping quickly could be faster - things would be confirmed more easily.
What're the technical reasons against this?

Shopping IRL using bitcoins (mobile phone), would be more safe with this, would it not?

Plese explain away my beliefs about this! Tongue
