World Bank, CommBank Team Up for ‘World First’ Blockchain Bond Transaction

The World Bank and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CommBank) have teamed up to enable recording of secondary market bond trading using blockchain tech.

The institutions announced Wednesday that their successful recording of a secondary transaction for bond-i, a blockchain-operated debt instrument, on a distributed ledger shows the “vast potential” of the technology, and marks the first bond to have both issuance and trading recorded on a blockchain platform.

Research conducted by Southern Methodist University showed that trends on Twitter and Google influence prices of cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH).

According to the data collected from the tweets on Twitter and Google search volume index (SVI), the number of tweets and their positive or negative sentiments affect the prices of cryptocurrency. The research indicated that the number of tweets changes first and then prices change later.

Theoretically, if the users’ sentiment towards a certain cryptocurrency could be measured, then the price pattern of that particular cryptocurrency could be easily estimated.

Bitcoin Comes to Whole Foods, Major Retailers in Coup for Digital Currency

Since its arrival ten years ago, cryptocurrency has struggled to enter mainstream commerce. This could soon change thanks to a new initiative, announced on Monday, that will reportedly see big name retailers—including Crate and Barrel, Nordstrom, and Amazon-owned Whole Foods—now accept Bitcoin and three other types of digital money.

Bitcoins for Frappuccino: Will Starbucks’ Crypto Endeavours Pave the Way for Mainstream Adoption?

The United States coffeehouse chain Starbucks is one of the most mainstream companies to look into crypto, and its intentions have finally been confirmed this week: The company has teamed up with Microsoft to track its beans with a blockchain.

Moreover, reports say that the coffee giant might start accepting bitcoin (BTC) payments in its U.S. branches later this year. So, is the long-awaited mainstream adoption finally coming to the crypto market?

As many mainstream companies, Starbucks leans toward the “blockchain before bitcoin” approach

Bank of America: Blockchain Market Could Hit $7 Bln, Will Give Boost to Amazon, Microsoft

The Bank of America (BoA) has estimated that blockchain could be a $7 billion market and provide a major boost to corporate giants such as Microsoft and Amazon, CNBC reports Oct. 2.

While BoA’s analysts refrained from putting “a time stamp” on the industry becoming a major, multi-billion dollar addressable market, they reportedly based their estimates on a ballpark figure that two percent of corporate servers would be used to run blockchain at a cost of $5,500 annually.

BoA research analyst Kash Rangan told CNBC that the technology is well-suited to some of the world’s largest corporations, noting for example that:

Quote
"Amazon will benefit from incremental cloud services demand from Blockchain implementation, while improved supply chain tracking should make Amazon's retail operations more efficient."

Rangan emphasized, however, that while many potential use cases for blockchain have been widely recognized, “full products/services have not yet been built out and are not used in production," leaving the technology’s capacity to generate real-world capital still unproven.

Rangan added that the innovation of distributed ledger systems could take so-called "software as a service" (SaaS) models to the next level by implementing "blockchain as a service” (BaaS). Rangan chose Microsoft’s popular blockchain-based Azure platform as a salient example, stating:

Quote
"BaaS on Azure offers services such as smart contracts and other third party apps, and should benefit as use of blockchain on Azure increases."

Among other high-profile beneficiaries poised to benefit from blockchain, BoA included Oracle, IBM, Salesforce.com, and VMware, as well as major players from the real estate and mortgage industries such such as Redfin, Zillow, and Lendingtree.

9  Bitcoin / Press / [2018-10-02] Cryptocurrency Scams Are Successfully Growing Thanks to Web Marketi on: October 02, 2018, 01:29:17 PM
Crypto scams have largely spread across the world taking various shapes. Driven by one single purpose, fraudsters invent many tricks to lure naive investors into the nets of their malicious schemes. If a crypto company spends a lot of money on its advertisements, it is likely a scam.

Bitconnect Story

Last October, when the market was generally bullish, with Bitcoin at almost $6,000, investors were happily collecting revenue from rapidly rising virtual coins such as BTC, ETH, and BCH. However, even this generous profit was not enough for some people who wanted to get a guaranteed daily interest. Bitconnect provided them with such an opportunity.

The scam was detected and shut down, of course, but one important detail managed to hide from the police’s eye. It has been only recently figured out, that the fraudulent Bitconnect spent an enormous amount of money on advertisement. According to the chat logs, the company attracted millions of dollars, thousands of which were spent on Youtube bloggers and referral scheme with gifts. Furthermore, there is information from the leaked Skype chats of Bitconnect’s leading figures showing that in October they paid Google and Facebook $1,000 per day for ads. The number increased to $3,000 per day in November.

In fact, even the history of money is hard to explain everything in this single image.
There are many topics to talk about, such as convertible notes, gold standard, and the establishment of the first bank, etc.
Nonetheless, we can recognize the approximate history of money in this image.
We were able to see when the first currency, the first credit card, was introduced, and it seemed fun.

11  Bitcoin / Press / [2018-09-27] Fake Trading Volume A Persistent Problem in Crypto on: September 28, 2018, 04:53:48 AM
Are new crypto exchanges that you’ve never heard about before repeatedly showing up on CoinMarketCap’s exchange ranking? Don’t be surprised anymore.

The phenomenon is now making headlines again, with Bloomberg recently questioning how it’s possible that a new exchange launched just three months ago already reports a trading volume that exceeds that of the 217-year-old London Stock Exchange.

The new exchange in question this time is Singapore-based crypto-to-crypto exchange BitForex, a new exchange that utilizes a controversial practice known as “transaction mining” to report daily trading volumes in excess of USD 5 billion (USD 3.4 billion at the time of writing.) In comparison, at the time of writing, trading volume at Binance, a major exchange, stands at USD 1.33 billion.

Transaction mining essentially involves returning a portion of the trading fees paid by users when they place orders on the exchange in the form of the exchange’s own token. In extreme cases, such as with BitForex, users can receive tokens worth more than the trading fee they paid, essentially earning free money by generating buy and sell orders on the exchange. Users then follow up and often run trading algorithms designed to generate a large number of orders, inflating the trading volume on the exchange.

Transaction mining is a controversial practice because it only works out in the user’s favor as long as the exchange’s token retains its value. And in order to retain its value, it needs to continuously attract new users to make up for other users who are cashing out. Nonetheless, the practice has been, and is being, used by many of the exchanges.

a surefire way to reduce shit posts

1. Remove the signature of all forum users.
2. Delete the Marketplace (Altcoins) section (including all subboards).

Clearly, we will reduce shit posts and spams, and Only users for bitcointalk will be left in this forum.
But perhaps it will not enforce this policy. You'll know the reason even if I don't tell you.

I trusted the Bitcointalk bounty program, but I saw many fraudulent ICOs even in the btt.
Do you think you should continue to use threads that encourage such fraud?

Riemann Hypothesis May be Proved on September 24, and its Impact on Crypto May be Huge

24th of September may go down in the history of crypto as a very important day. Do you know why? Because that day a British-Lebanese mathematician named Sir Michael Atiyah is going to provide a “simple proof” of a million-dollar problem that can have far-reaching implications for modern-day cryptography. What is that problem, you may be wondering. Well, it’s called the Riemann hypothesis. The hypothesis is unproven till date since 1859, and it’s one of those problems which have a million dollar prize declared for the solver by Clay Mathematics Institute. And here we’re going to explain it for you.

I think it's agriculture.
Global warming is affecting all parts of the world today.(ex: drought, Heavy snow and rain, reduction of sea ice, sea level rise, etc.)
There is still a shortage of food in Africa. I think it's going to get worse. That's why I think it's agriculture.

Decentralized Crypto Exchange is Solution to Hacks, Will They be Ready?

Not long after the successful hacking attempts on crypto exchanges Bithumb and Coincheck, Japan’s Zaif was hacked, losing $60 million in user funds. All three exchanges were found to have poor security measures.

Coincheck in particular, which lost more than $500 million in XEM, the native cryptocurrency of NEM, outraged investors in Japan after the company’s CEO Koichiro Wada admitted that the firm did not have enough security experts overseeing the exchange.

“We were aware we didn’t have enough people working on internal checks, management and system risk. We strived to expand using headhunters and agencies, but ended up in this situation,” said Wada.

The NEM team also stated in an official statement that while it has deployed an automatic tagging system to trace lost funds for the investors of Coincheck, the team emphasized that the exchange had extremely poor security systems in place.

Bithumb was similarly criticized by the government of South Korea and local security firms, which ultimately led the exchange to close down for over a month and overhaul its internal management systems.

16  Other / Beginners & Help / a question about Bounty on: September 22, 2018, 05:30:06 AM

There are some Bounty campaigns that I participated in.
The project initially did not have kyc, but in the middle they asked for kyc.
And nine weeks later, I have excluded me from kyc because of the Countries Excluded and I have been informed that I can not get a bounty reward.

However, there was no such rule for Bounty participants in the Bounty Thread.
I wrote a report for nine weeks and so far have been a waste of time.
What should I do in this case?

Hello, everyone.
I've also been demoted, and I'm looking for ways to get a Merit.
I am not good at English so it is very difficult to get a Merit.
So I think it's a good idea to find and post an interesting article on the press board.
The press board doesn't give me a lot of Merit, but wouldn't there be a good result if i kept posting it?

What do you think about this?
18  Bitcoin / Press / [2018-09-18] 1% of wallets hold 55% of the world’s Bitcoin on: September 20, 2018, 07:39:11 AM
source https://thenextweb.com/hardfork/2018/09/18/cryptocurrency-bitcoin-blockchain-wallet/

More than half of the entire Bitcoin circulating supply is controlled by cryptocurrency whales, and 42 percent of them didn’t sell during peak crypto-mania.

Blockchain research unit Diar has put together some interesting data that suggests less than 1 percent of all wallet addresses control $100 billion in Bitcoin.

In fact, more than half of Bitcoin’s circulating supply is controlled by wallets with balances exceeding 200 BTC ($1.25 million).

...

Even further – it appears that a third of all Bitcoin $BTC▲0.82% held by whales has never been used for outgoing transactions (meaning the whales never moved it out of their wallets after receiving it). Diar does note that some of these could be the reserves of cryptocurrency exchanges.

Regardless, this is surely impressive, considering the price of BTC fluctuates dramatically.

Most notably, BTC exceeded $20,000 in January, for which many blamed market manipulators for the hysteria that followed.

Diar suggests that some of the sleeping Bitcoin could actually be accidentally locked up due to owners losing private keys. Either that, or there are some rich cryptocurrency believers out there with lots of patience.

19  Bitcoin / Press / [2018-09-18] China Central Bank Warns of Cryptocurrency, ICO Risks in Public Not on: September 18, 2018, 12:09:44 PM
The People’s Bank of China (PBoC), the country’s central bank, has issued a public notice urging investors of risks in cryptocurrency trading and initial coin offerings (ICOs).

The Shanghai branch of the PBoC issued a public notice on Tuesday to “remind” consumers and investors to increase their risk awareness of ICOs – a radical form of fundraising powered by cryptocurrencies, urging investors to avoid speculative trading in cryptocurrencies and steer away from overseas operators issuing ICOs.

It’s been a year since the PBoC issued a blanket ban on all ICOs, outlawing it as an illegal practice of fundraising.

In its notice today, the central bank heralded the ban as a success, stating:

“[T]he global share of domestic virtual currency transactions has dropped from the initial 90% to less than 5%, effectively avoiding the virtual currency bubble caused by skyrocketing global virtual currency prices in the second half of last year in China’s financial market. The impact has been highly recognized by the community.”
