1  Bitcoin / Wallet software / What's the best way to watch the balance of hundreds of thousands of addresses? on: December 20, 2015, 06:28:02 PM
I have an ever-growing list of cold wallets with thousands of bitcoin addresses in each of them. Most of them are probably empty and won't ever be used, but still I'd like to check the sum of bitcoins they hold. What's the best (cheapest and easiest) way of doing it?

My first thought was to import them as watch-only addresses to the bitcoin core instance that is running on my server. But I am afraid it may affect the server performance and I don't want to risk it.

So I should probably set up a separate server for this purpose and download the blockchain again.

Or is there a way to check the total balance of hundreds of thousands of bitcoin addresses with some free online service or a light wallet?
2  Economy / Digital goods / I have too many bitcoin-related projects and domains. Anyone wants them? on: October 29, 2015, 11:33:24 PM
Hi all, here is the list of my bitcoin-related projects that I don't have enough time to develop:

Here are the unused domain names that I registered but never used:

  • bitcoinslaves.com
  • bitcoinservants.com
  • btcne.ws

All the domains are registered at name.com and can be easily transferred to any verified name.com account.

I haven't decided yet whether I should renew them. Do you think they might cost anything?

If you want any of these projects or domains - please place your offer.

Thanks!
3  Bitcoin / Project Development / [ANN] Bitcoinocracy.com - Sign your argument with your non-empty Bitcoin address on: July 24, 2015, 06:20:21 AM
This is an experimental launch of the Bitcoinocracy -- a project that aims to determine the truth backed by real monetary value and to facilitate decentralized decision making in the Bitcoin eco-system.

It is not a commercial-grade software, but it is absolutely free, transparent, open source and doesn't require user registration.

Just sign the statements with non-empty bitcoin addresses to express your opinion.

PS: I wanted to make it long ago but I didn't have time to do it and wasn't sure there would be a demand for it, so I decided to publish it and see what happens. Anybody is  welcome to participate.
4  Bitcoin / Electrum / My electrum wallet contains over 17000 addresses (& growing) - am I in trouble? on: July 12, 2015, 06:38:15 AM
I created my Electrum wallet in 2013 and I liked how it worked. But now it contains over 17000 addresses and takes a lot of time to synchronize. Even if it is synchronized, it becomes sluggish after I send a transaction.

Can it handle the ever-increasing amount of bitcoin addresses?

Public Electrum servers have limits of 10000 addresses, does it mean I should create a new wallet each time my old one approaches this limit?

Thanks!

Starting bid:

0.5 btc

End date and time:

2015-02-01 00:00:00 UTC

You can develop the Pyramid and change the rules, but please protect the interests of the existing members.

The Pyramid will be transferred to you after I receive your payment (unless we use a mutually trusted escrow at your expense).

Money received from you will be distributed among them as well.

To get a domain name you will need to set up a verified name.com account and tell me your account code (not a username).

You should have a server capable of running bitcoind (probably an anonymous virtual server for $216/year in btc should be sufficient, here is my referral link). I'd gladly help you to install everything for free.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What is the owner of 14nsgXjL7xCEXFf8UkGCm9KnSTTFBDKqcn trying to achieve? on: August 30, 2014, 12:26:14 AM

8  Economy / Trading Discussion / Advertise your bitcoin business for cheap! on: July 18, 2014, 07:09:40 PM
Hi!

I am from a-ads.com and am writing this post to show that right now our advertising is really cheap.

This happens time to time because we don't notify our advertisers when their campaign is over (we don't even know their email addresses).

According to current (2014-07-18) stats we serve ~63M ad impressions from ~1.13M unique IPs (~77K clicks from ~34K unique IPs) daily and our advertisers pay only BTC0.23 (~$145) for it.

Our average CPM is ~BTC0.0002  (~$0.13) for 1000 of unique impressions, average CPC is ~BTC0.000007 (~$0.004) and average CTR is ~3% (or ~0.12% based on non-unique IPs).

You may receive much more traffic than you expect because our default metrics are based on globally-unique IPs per 24 hours. Perhaps significant part of this traffic is fake, but it shouldn't be a problem since:
  • you don't pay per click or pay impression, you just set your daily budget that we distribute among publishers with respect to their traffic and your targeting
  • you can filter out low-quality sites thus excluding significant part of low-quality traffic (but raising your CPM)
  • you can track and ban inefficient publishers from your campaign

Our traffic is underpriced currently, but it may change anytime, we can't guarantee any particular CPM value since we are not pay-per-impression network. So please set your daily budget to a reasonably low level, watch your campaign and adjust it as needed.

Thanks for your attention, any feedback about successful or unsuccessful advertising experience with us is welcome.

PS: oh, and one more thing, please don't advertise scam sites, or your ad will be banned and deposited money won't be refunded.
9  Economy / Service Announcements / [ANN] Coingiving.com - Personified Bitcoin Donations [closed] on: November 20, 2013, 04:50:45 PM
Update 2015-06-01:  Since almost nobody was using coingiving.com, we closed it.

Projects that collect bitcoin donations often do it by posting their bitcoin address on their sites. This solution is simple and reliable, but it has a drawback: donations made to that sites remain anonymous.

Many donors would like to show how much they donate and which projects they support. Some of them might want to be listed as sponsors of particular projects.

So a-ads team has developed CoinGiving.com to address this issue and thus to facilitate collection of donations.

Donors sign in and donate to projects thus becoming their sponsors. We show the sponsors of each project and the projects for each sponsor on our site. Donation recipients can embed our widget to their sites to show their sponsors too.

We don’t charge fees and don’t have access to donations: they are instantly forwarded to recipients by Blockchain.info.

If you want your project to be listed - please post your request here or send an email to contact@a-ads.com.

Thanks!

11  Economy / Service Announcements / [ANN] Tip4Commit.com - support opensource projects, contribute and earn bitcoins on: October 21, 2013, 08:27:59 PM
We developed Tip4Commit.com - a web-service that motivates people to contribute to open source projects hosted at GitHub.

Tip4Commit.com doesn't require user registration. Anybody can choose any open source GitHub project and donate any amount of bitcoins to it.

Each commit accepted by project maintainer will be tipped with 1% of funds available for that project.

If we don't know recipient's Bitcoin address, we send an email with a unique link that allows to specify it (alternatively developers can sign in via GitHub, but it is not required). Thus we spread a word about Bitcoin among software developers.

Support the development of Bitcoin software!

12  Bitcoin / Project Development / JS tool to track asset ownership for small bitcoin businesses on: May 21, 2013, 04:38:27 AM
Problem: simple way to track ownership for small bitcoin businesses without relying on any third party.

Possible solution: use bitcoin cryptography to identify assets and shareholders, store all the data off-the-chain.

I developed a JS demo. It doesn't store anything and doesn't require any server-side software. It just allows to create share transfers and to process the list of such transfers (sources and sample data here).

1. Shareholders create share transfers via requests of the form:

Quote
{datetime} SEND {amount} OF {asset} TO {recipient} {sender's signature}

Sender is identified by signature. If sender is the asset, then it is share creation. If recipient is the asset, then it is share destruction.

2. The issuer appends (either manually or automatically) such requests to the list of transfers, then processes it and creates the updated list of shareholders.

This solution is not very scalable since it checks the signature for each transfer and it may take much time. I have some ideas how to improve it, but it might make things a bit more complicated.

Do you think this approach/tool is useful? Maybe the original problem is non-existant or already solved. Maybe the easiest thing is just to have a spreadsheet or some file at pastebin. Maybe we should develop an assetcoin, use colored coins or ripple to issue shares. Please share your thoughts before I put any more effort into it. Thanks!
13  Economy / Auctions / 4 BTC debt of TradeFortress (Ripple IOUs) on: May 16, 2013, 11:46:15 AM
I received 4 BTC IOUs issued by TradeFortress (rH3bZsvVUhzugvcYuJVoSYCEMHkfK6wHNv) recently.

I'm not sure if TradeFortress is going to repay it though. Probably not, because it was his "social experiment" to reveal the Ripple's disadvantages over bitcoin, and for some reason his topic got deleted.

What I'd like to do is to continue his experiment and to try to sell his debt via this auction.

If you win the auction, you will need to send real btc to address I assign to you, then grant trust to TradeFortress (rH3bZsvVUhzugvcYuJVoSYCEMHkfK6wHNv) and give me your Ripple address.

Minimum quantity: 1 TradeFortress BTC
Starting price: 0.01 BTC per 1 TradeFortress BTC
Minimum bid: 0.01 BTC
14  Economy / Trading Discussion / [ANN] Listen to Mt. Gox on: May 13, 2013, 12:05:16 PM
Hi!

I just developed a tiny simple service that synthesizes sounds in real time using mtgox socket API.

The aim is to give you (and me) a feeling of the current market situation: loud sounds mean higher volumes, higher pitch means growth.

Here is the link: http://ansrv.com/listen_mtgox/

You can use it in the background and feel what is happening without even watching the charts, or you can use it together with Clark Moody's realtime charts. It may take some before you start recognizing the signals.

If people find it useful, I will probably improve it, make github repository, etc.

PS: I wanted to do it long ago, but when I saw listentobitcoin.com, it motivated me and gave some technical hints, thanks! Smiley
15  Economy / Trading Discussion / If MtGox can't handle the load, it should limit frequency&amount of orders/user on: April 11, 2013, 01:42:45 PM
If I get it right, the bottleneck is its order matching engine.

So why doesn't it limit the maximum allowed number of simultaneous orders and the frequency of orders from each user?

Also, when lags increase, maybe bots that abuse the service should have a lower priority than people.

It could have been much better experience if users could execute 1 buy or sell order immediately anytime using captcha.
16  Economy / Trading Discussion / MtGox <-> Btc-e arbitrage ~3% profit on: April 09, 2013, 02:21:49 PM
I've noticed that the price difference between MtGox and BTC-e is often greater than 7%. But it takes only ~3% to transfer funds from MtGox to Btc-e.

So you can sell bitcoins for USD at MtGox, transfer funds to BTC-e and buy cheaper bitcoins there thus making ~3% with minimal risks.

The easy way of transferring funds from MtGox to Btc-e is OKPay. I noticed that transfers may take from several minutes to couple days though, so it might be a good idea to make reserves of USD at BTC-e before placing your buy and sell orders.

Minimizing the interval between buys and sells you minimize your risks. Though it might be a good idea to make sure that sell order at MtGox executes before placing your buy order at btc-e since sometimes MtGox is really slow.

Why am I writing all this? Just hoping to get some passive income via OKPay's referral program. So if you find this advise useful, please use my link to get registered: https://www.okpay.com/?rbp=arsenische

18  Economy / Micro Earnings / [ANN] a-ads.com: Bitcoin advertising network. Advertise now! on: February 03, 2013, 01:13:45 AM
About Anonymous Ads

We are the transparent Bitcoin advertising network that doesn't collect any personal data about its users. Our lightweight ads don't contain javascript or swf. We don't spy on our users and don't provide targeting based on browser history. We don't sell visitors and don't pay per click or per impression. We sell a share of traffic of our publishers to our advertisers.

Advertisers allocate their funds on advertising spaces (ad units) and get a share of impressions from them. They can track the sources of efficient traffic and reward them for sales to improve the targeting of their campaigns.

If you want to buy ads:

Just try us out. Create an advertising campaign, it should take less than a minute since no registration is needed.

After your campaign is created, you can adjust its parameters, deposit any amount and wait for your ad to be activated by our moderators.

We are also searching for advertisers that are willing to receive free traffic and use CPA or revenue-sharing model. Pay for traffic after it converts!

If you want to monetize your traffic:

Create an ad unit, embed your ad and receive automatic payouts to your bitcoin address.

Please note that we are not pay-per-click or pay-per-impression, our default money distribution mechanism relies on amount of globally unique impressions, please see this post for details.

Ad units may also receive rewards from advertisers that use CPA or revenue sharing model.

Generous affiliate program

All our publishers participate in our affiliate program. They get 50% of fees collected from advertisers attracted by their ad units (~10% of their spendings). Anybody can create an affiliate link and earn daily rewards by promoting our service.

20  Bitcoin / Project Development / AnonymousAds v2 staging server (and some documentation) on: January 13, 2013, 11:24:17 PM
The staging server of AA2 is available at http://s.a-ads.com. The site is far from being complete (this is just a preview of basic functionality) but you are welcome to play with it. There is no content on the site yet, so I am putting some info here.

Advertiser
1. creates ad, selects categories, sets campaign params (including goal tracking and daily_budget) and receives an unrecoverable password
2. deposits money to campaign (small amounts require just 1 confirmation) and waits for impressions from ad units that satisfy campaign's conditions

Every day up to daily_budget btc will be distributed from campaign to ad units with respect to their weights (weight is currently estimated as amount of daily unique IPs).

If goal tracking for campaign is enabled, then the param <campaign.id>_<ad_unit.id> will be injected into ad's link and advertisers will be able to track visitors.

Advertisers can register goals (either through web interface, or using simple API).

If campaign's balance is enough to pay for registered goal, the goal will be paid and corresponding ad unit will start receiving bitcoins (possibly giving you more impressions during <goal's duration>).

Publisher
1. creates ad unit, sets few params, receives ad unit's HTML code and embeds it on his/her site
2. embeds it on his/her site and waits for profit

Publishers can organize "traffic exchange" if they specify that they want to withdraw to their advertising campaign upon ad unit creation (in that case withdrawal threshold is negligibly small).

Publishers can customize colors adding GET params to their code, e.g.:

Code:
<iframe data-aa='17'
src='//ad.s.a-ads.com/17?background_color=000000&text_color=ffffff&title_color=ffff00&title_hover_color=ff0000&link_color=00aa00&link_hover_color=00ff00'
scrolling='no' style='width:160px; height:600px; border:0px; padding:0;overflow:hidden'></iframe>

would look like this.

Affiliate program
Also affiliate program should work. That means if you invite somebody who creates an ad with your affiliate link (that is just http://s.a-ads.com?partner=<your ad unit id>), you should receive 10% of all deposits for campaigns that use this ad. This link is also present on ad unit code.

AA2 fees

We aim to make a fully transparent service, we have nothing to hide. The following info is preliminary and can be changed any moment:

1. we take 20% of each deposit (or 10% of each ad unit's withdrawal to campaign)
2. we take 20% of daily_budget every day

So we hope to earn 10-36% of money paid for campaign.

If advertiser is invited via affiliate link and pays for goals only, our profit is ~10% (because 10% goes to referral).

If advertiser comes from google and doesn't pay for goals, our profit is ~36% (i.e. 20% + 20% of the remainer).

Warning

Please remember, that this is a staging sever with software that is under development. If you are sending bitcoins to it, you take the risk. Your money and data may disappear anytime. It won't be migrated to production server.

Feedback is appreciated

If you place ad unit code on your site, you have a chance of getting some btc. We can't guarantee you will ever hit withdrawal threshold, but we will definitely spend some btc to test. Also if you invite advertisers, you can receive 10% of deposits to campaigns that use their ads.

If you are an advertiser, you can loose some money and maybe even get some impressions. It is likely that I will be spending small amounts to support your campaign, so you don't need to pay if you don't want to, just create a campaign.

If you are a publisher and advertiser at the same time, you can create a campaign and ad unit with "withdraw to campaign" parameter. In that case you don't need to spend money, you don't even need to have a bitcoin address.

Please participate!

Thanks!

Update 2013-02-03: we launched it on our production server
