1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Down to zero it goes! on: June 25, 2011, 04:00:30 PM
Well, there it goes, down to zero. It had a good run while it lasted, but this was the obvious end result.

Here's the chart of its lifetime:

Goodbye USD, hello BTC! Why, what did you think I was talking about? Grin
2  Other / Off-topic / Dad falls for case bling, buys crappy computer on ebay on: June 12, 2011, 02:25:15 AM
My dad's computer recently got hosed, and he was looking around on his favorite goto site - dell auctions - and somehow came across this beast - P4! AGP! - but look, BLUE LEDs!!! He got all excited about those, so he asked me to look at it, and I offered to search around for better deals.

I found one for cheaper that was dual core, had DDR3 RAM, 250GB SATAII, Radeon 54xx, etc - very upgradable! I told him this was a much better computer and he should go with it.

I called him a few days later, and found out... he went with the blue LEDs! His excuse - "the other computer didn't have a card reader [yes it does], and it's not a tower". I told him you can turn it on its side and it becomes a tower.  Roll Eyes

I'm tempted to demand he return it and pay the restocking fee as a lesson for not listening to me.
3  Bitcoin / Mining / Hardware for cheap through liquidation auctions? on: June 11, 2011, 04:50:00 AM
I occasionally come across ridiculously low prices on software/hardware when browsing local liquidation auctions - e.g. a couple copies of Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 selling for a few dollars, which could then be flipped on eBay for several hundred (assuming the licenses weren't used).

I have my eye on a low-level Radeon at a local consignment auction that is currently selling for a couple dollars. I know there is a risk that it doesn't work, but if the investment is small, so is the loss. Cheesy

Has anyone scored anything with this route?
