1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Community driven non ICO projects on: September 26, 2018, 07:53:17 PM
What do you guys think about community driven projects, that did no ICO, instead airdrop most of their tokens to their members? Most coins I came across in this "niche" are privacy coins with quick & untraceable transactions. They usually offer limited total supply somewhere in region of couple of millions. There are/were a couple out there that I know of.

Prime example of this was Deep Onion, that have made many people 10s of thousands (even more) of USD when sold around ATH.

But on the other hand, there were a lot of scams here too. Projects got listed on exchanges, teams sold of their tokens, never developed their projects and left with money.

What do you guys think of these projects? Do you have a favorite one you are part of? My favorits now are Privcy and Metacash. Both have white paper released and both have active teams behind them, Privcy in particular.

3  Economy / Scam Accusations / hydroBETA KYC linking to phishing MEW lookalike on: August 13, 2018, 03:35:27 PM
Hi guys, just wanted to make sure, that as many useras as possible know about this. Few days ago hydroBETA airdrop was listed here on BCT. They promised 222.222 to everybody. So I signed up. They also offered 22.222 per referral and extra drop for holding ETH and HYDRO. Everything good so far, probably too good.

Then on Saturday I received email for KYC. Looking at the site linked I was immediately suspicious. For KYC they only wanted to know my name, email address and ETH address. All of which they had already. And after entering your MEW address (I just typed random letters) link pops up to link your MEW to their site! That link goes through bit.ly(they say link looks suspicious btw) to this site myetherwallet.com.ip10.icu/signmsg.html. The site has large MEW logo on top, but when you click it it does nothing. It tries too much to look like MEW site, but it is not.

All of this just look way too suspicious and is not worth that trouble. Go ahead check it out for yourself.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Mine with old desktop? on: July 18, 2018, 09:05:39 AM
Hi guys, I am new on mining thread, tried to look for similar posts but didn’t fond any.

So here is my dilemma. I would like to try my hand at mining, bu don’t have thousands to spend. I am looking to find a solution that will get me started for cheap (€300).

I have old desktop with quad core 3ghz amd phenom 2 cpu and 6gb ram and would want to buy AMD radeon rx580 8gb (pci express) graphics for mining.

The question is, will the old desktop slow my mining performance down? Does internet speed affect mining too (i have 40mb/s intenet where i live)? Is it even worth these days, to mine with one graphic card? Not trying to get rich here 😬 just want a bit extra here and there. Thanks guys
5  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Which hardware wallet you use and why? on: July 01, 2018, 06:18:55 PM
Hi guys, I am quite new in crypto, but I think time has come for me to get myself a hardware wallet.

I wanted to gather some crowd intelligence on what hardware wallets you guys use? What made you choose that particular one? Which feature is your favorite one and which one most handy? I invest into Icos most of my cash, so question is, can you add custom token into any of hardware wallets?

I am kinda leaning towards Ledger Nano S. Not sure why, I guess maybe because I keep hearing about it everywhere...

I would really appreciate your insights (and am sure others would too).

Thank you
6  Economy / Exchanges / What service you use to buy crypto with paypal on: June 25, 2018, 07:52:23 PM
Hi there. I was just researching ways of how to buy crypto with fiat sitting on paypal account. Being from Europe myself (namely Austria) I usually use Bitpanda.com. That’s when I am funding via credit card. Not sure, maybe they allow paypal and USD, but they are a bit expensive.

But I have sold my website have have some USD sitting on my paypal account, so I was thinking if there’s a way you guys out there use and can recommend  to fund crypto via paypal. And that accepts European documents should authentication be necessary.

Thank you for all your suggestions in advance
