1  Economy / Economics / The global south sumit on: June 14, 2024, 07:50:24 PM

Headline Bloomberg:

Saudis Woo Billionaires in Rio as Wealth Fund Taps Latin America

Kingdom officials glad-hand with Brazil brass in Copacabana
PIF’s Al-Rumayyan says he’s eyeing tech, green energy, mining

The article you can read here:

“Brazil and Saudi Arabia are part of the global south,” Lula told attendees on Wednesday. “We can’t go through another century only depending on the north.”

Organized by the Future Investment Initiative Institute, a nonprofit linked to the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia, the conference in Rio de Janeiro is part of the kingdom’s push to raise its profile and diversify its oil-dependent economy by tapping into resource-rich Latin America. For Brazil’s political and business leaders, it was a rare chance to mingle with the entourage around the Public Investment Fund’s Al-Rumayyan and the billions of dollars that are doled out each year.

It reads as it the global south initiative reigns from the top. Revolutions are rarely succeeding when arraigned from the top.
This time it might be different, most have noted that antifa is now defending Nestle and co.
2  Economy / Economics / escaping prosecution on: June 09, 2024, 02:54:18 PM
Crypto and banks:
The way of money and not always is they way correct.

Standard Chartered, one of the UK’s largest banks, avoided prosecution by the US Department of Justice after Lord Cameron’s government intervened on its behalf in 2012.

At the end of the article comes:
But the whistleblowers claim the US authorities have perpetrated “a colossal fraud on this court by falsely denying” that the whistleblowers provided “previously unknown, damning evidence”.

The wrong message for whistleblowers in the future.
3  Economy / Economics / forecast too optimistic? on: June 02, 2024, 06:50:51 PM
Sinking Profits Bring Reality Check to AI-Driven Rally in Emerging Market Stocks

Almost half of developing-country companies miss estimates
Average earnings drop 10% amid sluggish consumer demand.

Those forecasters get it wrong most of the time, when they get it wrong big-time ist the companies whose performance is not as expected.
To forecast how an industry performs is hard work. too much data and in the case of emerging markets there is not much data available anyway in the first place. Few emerging countries see data collecting as important as it is, I believe due to the desire not to get caught lying.

Reason being according to:
Quote from: Julius Baer
“The downside surprise in profit expectations is largely driven by weak earnings momentum in China,” said Nenad Dinic, an equity strategist at Bank Julius Baer in Zurich. Elsewhere, “the erosion in margins appears to come from rising operating expenses,” he said, pointing to wage increases in Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and India.

The driving force of the US pressing immigration is the low wages in their home countries.

The IMF drove home hope. "Inflation and Steady Growth Open Path to Soft Landing"
Do they really ignore the fact that a raising oil production is not translated into Joe Doe earnings?
4  Other / Serious discussion / Dethrone the Dollar on: May 18, 2024, 12:29:54 PM
The battle cry many coiners use.
Trade is easier when using one currency.
Most people like the $ especially the living not in the US. For people with feeble currencies the $ is a safeguard for their value.

US based financial institutions cry and that although they are directly responsible for the wish to use a different system than swift.
Coins like Litecoin, Dash, BCH could fill in that spot. But none of them is doing anything in that regard.
I wonder why.

It's a chance for the crypto community

Quote from: The economist
Other potential threats to the dollar still loom. The growth of alternative payment systems, and of transactions that have no need for the dollar, could accelerate, due either to overreach by Western sanctions or network effects from rising membership. Should China’s CIPS be the main beneficiary, the yuan’s fortunes might soar (though capital controls would make foreign central banks wary of relying on it as a reserve currency). For now, even within China, last year was the first in which cross-border payments in yuan edged past those made in the dollar.
Judging by the world’s previous reserve currency—the pound sterling, which declined for decades before being superseded by the dollar—such changes are likely to proceed at a glacial pace. That is, unless the transformations of the global financial system examined in this report are supercharged by a new crisis.

5  Economy / Economics / Venezuela wants to reinsert on: April 25, 2024, 12:55:48 PM
Venezuela is In Default on $154 Billion of Debt, now in 2014 Venezuela Is ready to talk

Hiring of Rothschild marks first step toward debt overhaul.
Scholars liken restructuring to post-invasion Iraq deal.

Without paywall:

Will that be enough? In my eyes the situation of people getting a salary is quiete dramatic. And it's the state who causes that.
In Venezuela Businesses from Iran and China are moving fast.
6  Economy / Economics / bots and AI on: April 17, 2024, 01:09:13 PM
For more than 25 years, search engines have been the internet’s front door. AltaVista, the first site to allow searches of the full text of the web, was swiftly dethroned by Google, which has dominated the field in most of the world ever since. Google’s search engine, still the heart of its business, has made its parent, Alphabet, one of the world’s most valuable companies, with revenues of $283bn in 2022 and a market capitalisation of $1.3trn. Google is not merely a household name; it is a verb

The and freely readable at

I'm not that convinced that these preprogrammed software or Bots have much impact other than being placed in charge by some search engines.
Mainstream will not use AI for some time, due to being not free mostly. Due to the fear of the unknown.
Bing and Google use AI in there Search-engines, Google tries to let it administer its index.

Those bots err a lot. 40 to 60% of the outputs those preprogrammed software is spitting out is false info, For pictures and movies the deep fakes collect most attention. The stat that now 5.5 Billion people use the internet is not accurate, everytime you turn on your smart phone it connects:

Searchengine wise  Google loses, although still on 80+ %.

Coinwise how does AI play a role in the development of coins?
7  Economy / Economics / boomer life UK on: March 28, 2024, 12:40:56 PM
is life for Boomers in the UK like that?

The 1950s were a good decade to be born in Britain. A newly minted welfare state ensured that your early years were free from squalor. For the lucky few who made it there, university cost nothing. During your peak earning years, taxes plunged thanks to Margaret Thatcher, oil gushing from the North Sea and the restorative effect of the EU’s single market on the sick man of Europe. Rocketing house prices more than compensated for a few years of high interest rates. Defined-benefit pension schemes, then still the norm, ensured that retirement would be prosperous.
Whatever this generation wanted, this generation nearly always got.  ........

Is it possible that the economist forgot about some classes?
Or is the UK mainstream really like that ??
8  Economy / Economics / How influential is crypto worldwide? on: January 02, 2024, 02:32:36 PM
I wonder how large is the financial product Crypto as a whole.

Comparing just to the NY stock exchange can put a lot into perspective:

I believe that most of the financial cloud comes from the US, maybe also the EU.
Anyone having statistics from other parts of the world please let us know Wink

Coinweb says that the total number of crypto wallets worldwide is 84.02 million,  a significant portion of users from Europe and the U.S. That makes for 420+ million crypto users.

Quite a lot.
9  Economy / Economics / Binance: get rich or die trying on: December 24, 2023, 12:45:58 PM
Fictional money, a shot at inordinate riches and a good chance of landing in jail at some point. That, in a nutshell, is the popular board game of Monopoly.
Entire article is here:

Not only Changpeng Zhao, head of Binance known as CZ has to pay a fine, he most likely has to do some time (in Jail). What they (He and his management) did was what had to be done to become the most popular exchange. A construct which replaces the middleman. Also at least co-responsible that many people believe trading to be synonyms for Crypto, even Bitcoin.

Getting rich or die trying is the credo of many people living in Ghetto-like circumstances.
It would not have been possible without his management, the people he put in place to manage the accounts, among others.
The article paists a nice picture of the venue Binance if you cannot get to the info past the paywall use  a gift from Elon ,)

Reading about China, Korrea and the US on X first.
Anniversay is it almost.

A comment of a chinese based tweet made it clear that the conflict is kinda probable.
It lead to further searches about the the silent treatment China has nowadays for the US Military.

Which led to the Korrean-USA-China triangle.

The Battle of Chosin:

What do you think? Am I the only one believeing that conflict is kinda inevitable?
Hawks are on both sides.

14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How to use Bitcoin or crypto? on: August 19, 2023, 05:37:19 PM
Some people like to be single minded and wish to just be paid in BTC. That is highly impractical IMHO.

We use it as it comes, we get paid in Bitcoin, Litecoin, USDT all currencies which are most favoured by clients.

The trick is to remember the price you received those highly fluctuational coins.
Say you received 0.03 BTC (720 ish today 08.19.23) for some work at 25500? Well, once you need FIAT you can just sell the 0.03 at plus 25500.

When working it's recommended to have more than one currency, even when living in the States it can be to your advantage knowing how to handle your finances. Bitcoin can not correct your bleeding spending  urges.

Our income is set in 90% FIAT, Most companies prefer Bank transfers, I prefer Litecoin, take also other coins especially when transfer times and fees are not that huge.

I wouldn't mind making more in Bitcoin, So if someone needs some webservices go ahead and get in touch Smiley
15  Other / Meta / Search function stuck in pre 2020? on: August 04, 2023, 12:14:53 AM

16  Other / Off-topic / Netflix's Reality on: May 21, 2023, 04:28:07 PM
Yesterday I started watching the " how to become rich" tv show.
The people who lead a chaotic financial life are the 1% of the population which have no issues with filling their freezer.
First a couple making  about 780 000 a year as a financial advisor and him doing homework.
Then a mom making a few millions a year driving a ferrari 308, I think.
A couple with a combined income of around 180 000 a year.

Most have around 10 Credit Cards.

The reality I know is that 60% of my chosen country do not have a bank account, 25% cannot read or calculate. Officially of course it's much lower. Most lawyers run away when you use %. I had a language school a few years back and attended also a few language students from Africa which confirmed that things run there in a pretty similar fashion.
To open a bank account you need a recommendation and a good month to get all requirements settled.A part from about $50.  Crypto is popular around here mostly through the people mining, those miners will not share their knowledge for security reasons. There is money in the country but no one sets up schools even though its the only way out. Similar to the crypto community which has no interest in social engagement and here too it would greatly benefit the movement set to conquer the financial world.

For the 1st World reader that reality is coming to you too, give it a decade or less.

Banks are limited by the banking authority, Credits if you need to count a bank manager among your friends. 30% is what they are allowed to lend. Privately you can have your startup founded, most plans fail due to not fetching financial backing, no idea is worth 50%.

Even though it may sound like a rand it's not, the intention of the article is to read how close is your reality to netflix'.

How is crypto doing with you and your pals?

18  Bitcoin / Legal / Hong Kong's Plans to Legalize Retail Crypto Trading on: April 09, 2023, 01:33:04 PM
Bloomberg wrote
Hong Kong Plans to Legalize Retail Crypto Trading to Become Hub.

Hong Kong is pivoting toward a friendlier regulatory regime for cryptocurrencies with a plan to legalize retail trading, contrasting with the city’s skeptical stance of recent years and the ban in place in mainland China.

On the other hand the US Government seems to be ready to create an unpopular legislation in spite of millions of their very own crypto enthusiasts,
 I wonder why?

The report covers a multitude of topics ranging from unemployment, supply chain challenges, climate change, and of course, cryptocurrency. To say the report is less than friendly to crypto might be an understatement, but let's take a look at some of the key points.
19  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Hardware Wallets Lifespan on: March 30, 2023, 04:05:19 PM
I wonder how long will hardware wallets, such as ledger, last.
For the time being I favour a non custodial wallet, pc and/or Phone based.

The reason being that SSD has a limited lifespan and I've lost a fair share of flashdrives due whatever mishap.
20  Other / Beginners & Help / Bitcoin earning by sats on: March 12, 2023, 02:16:35 PM
For severall weeks now we went thru the pages where you can earn Sats by clicking ads, playing games and investment.

It makes me wonder why people create opportunity and at the same time try to screw their contributors..

Their TOS (most pages have identical TOS) have those kind or rules:

You can transfer your Account Balance funds to your Purchase Balance with a fee of 90%. This is the primary use of this service. Members can earn money and invest them back in the respective page .
For request the first payment you need to click 100 advertisement and you need to get 10 active referrals. Active referrals are counted only for active members calculated by our secret algorithm.

When you manage to channel your Sats out you have 2 to 3 days till arrival (reception) and that is a long time even in crypto.

At the same time most of those pages try to get big investment, Its hard to believe that after reading those TOS an investor findthem suitable.
