21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Bitcoin-XT - the next big altcoin on: June 16, 2015, 11:15:10 PM
Now that Mike and Gavin have announced their intention to hard fork Bitcoin to implement blocksize changes, lots of people in Bitcoin land are reasonably concerned about the breakdown of existing consensus-based BTC change control policies.

But if you think of Bitcoin-XT (horrible choice of name IMO as it reminds me of Windows-XT right away, which is enough to make anybody gag) as just another altcoin, whats the problem ? You could give it the short name BXT and nobody would complain.

Let them have an independent block chain instead of piggybacking on the Bitcoin block chain and what could go wrong ?

24  Bitcoin / Project Development / Governance model ? - Open Source Community Owned Not For Profit exchange on: March 29, 2014, 05:02:00 PM
I am cross posting this here because I suspect a lot of you folks don't read the altcoin groups. Apologies in advance if this is the wrong group.

Premised on the observation that the current state of infrastructure is and has been a major impediment to the adoption of crypto-currencies, and the conjecture that public infrastructure should be owned and operated by the community as a not-for-profit resource, I'd like to solicit suggestions for governance models and supported features for a public not-for-profit bitcoin and altcoin exchange based on an open source model.

For example:

How would operational and management decisions be made, by whom and how would they be selected ?
What type of license should the source code be provided under ?
What type of licensing or revenue capture model would be appropriate to ensure adequate operational funding.

What mechanisms should be used to decide which coins to add for trading ?
What features should the exchange provide, currency PAIR trading, options, futures, derivatives, ETFs ?
What authentication model should the exchange support/require ?

Creation of malicious negative trust to suppress free speech shames the bitcoin community.

Note: I posted this in the original self-moderated thread a few minutes ago but the moderator, who is anything but self-moderate, quickly deleted it.

Anyone who wants to discuss this issue openly and without censorship is free to carry on here:

31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / lawlessness, vigilante-ism, self-regulation or legal regulation on: March 12, 2014, 01:30:07 AM
The stages of development of crypto-currencies. We are at the vigilante stage.

To take this to the next level, you need to either find a way of effective self-regulation or you *will* be regulated.
You don't have much time to decide which it'll be, if any.

What would you prefer ?
If you would prefer self-regulation, what governance model would you pick ?

Please don't tell me that legal regulation isn't an option because of the p2p nature of crypto-currencies.

~~LOL~~

33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / p2p exchange thread on: March 11, 2014, 12:51:39 AM
It has become obvious that the crypto-currency infrastructure needs upgrading. P2p coins need p2p exchanges to remain viable.

Feel free to discuss the value and impact of p2p exchanges, implementation ideas, comparisons of existing or planned implementations of p2p exchanges and related topics.
34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / the future of altcoins on: March 10, 2014, 01:40:55 AM
The future of altcoins is 100% pre-mined branded coins used by Fortune 100 companies in reward systems.
You will be able to exchange your Kellogs coins for Coca-Cola coins, your Amazon coins for WalMart coins.

All your idealistic utopian dreams will turn into the 21st century equivalent of a plastic toy in the bottom of a box of corn flakes.

A cryptocoin will emerge as a payment token. It won't be bitcoin or a scrypt based altcoin. There are too many existing bitcoin stakeholders with claims to serendipitous wealth that need to be disenfranchised before a universally acceptable cryptocoin can achieve fair distribution and there is no barrier to entry for scrypt based coins. It will be a PoUW (proof of useful work) coin most likely 100% pre-mined by a government and it will use clojure as a scripting language. It will be distributed via a tax refund mechanism. AUR glimpsed the future, but only tangentially.
