1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Site with historical BTC values of altcoins? on: February 23, 2015, 03:09:28 AM
I thought there was a website that showed a ton (maybe all) cryptocoins and their historical values in BTC but now I can't find it... does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Like suppose you wanted to find out what dogecoin was worth on 1/15/14, you could just go on there and look it up.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / marinecoin exchange/s ? on: May 30, 2014, 12:58:40 AM
Are there any exchanges trading marinecoin? Since CR crapped the bed, I haven't seen any other exchanges pick up this coin. Bittrex was supposedly going to, but doesn't appear to have actually done so.

4  Other / Off-topic / What were the most disturbing scenes in movies or televison shows? on: May 15, 2014, 07:10:13 PM
Alright, let's hear it - what were some of the most disturbing, terrifying, upsetting, etc scenes that you remember from a movie or TV show?

I'll lead out with the rape scene from the American version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It was absolutely horrific. I felt like my heart was going to explode out of my chest when I saw it in the theaters.

Your turn.

6  Other / Off-topic / Colonizing Mars on: April 21, 2014, 07:04:04 PM
This is inspired by the thread that was posted before about the Russian space plans.

I am very interested in Mars colonization and would love to keep the discussion going. To avoid the whole moon vs Mars debate getting in the way, I'm making this thread specifically about Mars.

So, when do you think Mars can realistically be colonized? Of all the plans out there (there are a ton of them, including one that I believe is still being funded and may actually happen in the new few years) what do you think is the best solution? Does a colony on Mars need to provide a financial return on investment to whoever funds it's initial startup costs in order to be "worth doing?"

Any discussion about colonizing Mars is welcome!
7  Economy / Computer hardware / R9 290s, R7 240s, Power Supplies on: April 19, 2014, 01:54:43 AM
Several fairly new computer parts for sale. I will consider best offers but please no lowballing; as explained below all of these parts except the 650watt psu are only a few months old.

I will consider accepting payment in bitcoin or hobonickels if you want to pay with crypto.

I would strongly prefer local pickup in NYC but will consider shipping if someone wants multiple items. Not worth it to ship for single items.

2 x Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X OC *$405 each* (purchased at the end of January, have receipts)

1 x XFX R9 290 Black Edition *$415* (purchased in mid February, have receipt)

1 x MSI R9 290 OC Edition Twin Frozr IV *$400* (literally just received back from RMA yesterday. Still in box, anti-static bag is sealed, looks like they sent me a brand new replacement but it could be refurbished I don't know if there is a way to tell.) I had bought one of these that arrived with a non-working fan so I had to RMA it.

1x 1000watt Supernova EVGA Gold PSU *$150* - purchased in late January, have receipt. If I remember correctly this has an insane warranty I believe it is 10 years.

1x 650watt TX650M Corsair PSU - *$60* purchased last year

2x Sapphire R7 240 2GB video cards - *$40 for the sealed one, $35 for the opened one* 1 brand new sealed in box, 1 opened but never used, still have the box and everything. I tried to add one of these to one of my computers but I couldn't fit it with the other video cards.

I am looking to downscale a bit. I don't plan on selling all of the video cards, I will probably keep one or two - but I don't have a strong preference so I am listing them all and I will probably just keep which ever one/s there are the least demand for.

Thanks for looking!
8  Other / Off-topic / How would you improve the current US tax system? on: April 16, 2014, 04:37:05 PM
It's tax time, and as usual a lot of people are griping and complaining about taxes, and how they don't agree with what some of their taxes pay for, taxes are too high, etc etc.

I am curious to see, if you could completely reform the tax system in the US, what would you do? Assume that you have complete control to make whatever changes you like.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Why the low volume on Bittrex? on: April 08, 2014, 03:06:04 AM
I just recently discovered Bittrex, around the time Crypto Rush ran into its recent set of issues.

I like Bittrex a lot, they seem to have a decent number of coins (and more are constantly being added) and if the people listed on the about page are really running the site, then they actually have some very legit developers behind it.

My only question is, why is the volume so low? It seems like an awesome US-based exchange that is run by real IT professionals who aren't hiding their identity (and frankly I feel like a US-based exchange is less likely to pull a scam. I'm not trying to knock other countries but it just seems like being based in the US makes prosecution more likely and more difficult to run away from in the event of any shenanigans.)

How many bitcointalk members are using Bittrex? What have your experiences been?
10  Bitcoin / Legal / Petition to request the IRS change Bitcoin tax ruling - PLEASE READ! on: April 04, 2014, 02:35:19 AM
Have you guys seen this already? https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/amend-irs-notice-2014-2taxing-virtual-currencybitcoin-property-stifles-new-technologycreates/z7WtKZGY

They only have 770 signatures so far; surely we can get at least the 100k requested from this forum alone! I have to believe that there are at least 100k US-based forum members here.

The petition is not something silly like asking for bitcoin not to be taxed at all, but rather to change the classification so it won't hurt crypto as much. Please take a look and share the link.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / The (Only) Crypto Rush Solution on: April 02, 2014, 05:41:08 PM
I don't understand why there is all this back and forth discussion about Crypto Rush and especially these bizarre IRC conversations that keep showing up on PasteBin. It seems like they just keep trying to change ownership and suggesting far-flung ideas that aren't going to resolve the issues at all.

Let's be clear: There is only one way to fix Crypto Rush, and it needs to be done immediately if there is to be any hope of salvaging this exchange.

YOU NEED TO FIND AN INVESTOR TO BUY A LARGE PORTION OF OWNERSHIP IN CRYPTORUSH IN EXCHANGE FOR DEPOSITING ENOUGH BTC, LTC, AND ALL OTHER CURRENTLY "MISSING" COINS TO BRING THE BALANCES BACK TO WHERE THEY SHOULD BE. PERIOD.

I don't know why this is so complicated. It's really simple. All this talk of ridiculous ideas to get users to deposit more coins onto the exchange "in good faith" with the expectation that they will be rewarded is ABSURD.

You have zero credibility right now. None. No where near enough people are going to trust you with a deposit until after the current deficity issue is resolved fully. You got caught lying and misusing users' funds to try to cover your mistakes. Admitting to making those mistakes is not enough. The only way to fix this is to replace those funds, right away. Not 3 weeks or 3 months from now, but now.

Please stop screwing around and not taking this seriously enough. Please stop chatting on IRC and playing Diablo III and fix the royal clusterfuck you created.

Thank you.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Is there an official marinecoin thread?? on: April 02, 2014, 05:10:48 PM
Sorry if this is dumb, but I have been searching and I can't seem to find an official announcement thread for marinecoin. Is there one? Can someone provide a link to it?

Thanks.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Cryptocurrency Convention in April... the lineup looks kind of lame to me? on: March 01, 2014, 06:43:29 PM
Okay so I read about the cryptocurrency convention (in NY in April) and at first I was interested. Then I looked at the website and they don't really say what the planned events/topics/sessions are going to be, aside from listing a few developers from relatively new altcoins that are going to be speaking.

Frankly, it looks like it's just a platform for them to plug their coins, and they aren't even terribly amazing coins IMO. I'm sorry but you expect me to pay $200 to go listen to an infomercial from like, a couple of guys that look like they walked off the set of the big bang theory and invented such amazing coins as... digibyte and tittiecoin?

Not trying to be a downer here but this needs some serious work if they expect anyone to give two shits. And they certainly aren't going to generate any public awareness in this way, it's just going to be a bunch of people that are already involved in cryptocoins that show up. And by "bunch" I mean like 10.
17  Economy / Digital goods / BF4 code on: February 15, 2014, 11:59:05 PM
I have 1 BF4 voucher that came with one of my 290s. This is to download the PC version of the game

I have no idea what these go for but the game costs $60 on Newegg. Thus I'm asking for the equivalent of about $35 worth of cryptocurrency. I can accept BTC, RPC, PotCoin, HoboNickels, Doge, or MTC. I can either mail you the voucher or scratch off the silver stuff and email you the code so you can redeem it instantly.

I can provide many references (heatware ebay etc.) I am new to transacting in crypto so if there is some special safe way we can do this, I am open to suggestions.
18  Economy / Computer hardware / FS: 2 x Sapphire R7 240 2GB Video cards (1 brand new in box, 1 open) on: February 15, 2014, 11:51:12 PM
When I ordered my 290s, they were doing a promotion and gave me two of these cards for free. I opened one of them and tried to fit it in one of my rigs but I just don't have the space. It is a very small card and only 1 slot thick, but it blocks the airflow between my 2 290s so it just wasn't going to be a good setup and I gave up on trying.

Looking for the equivalent of about $100 USD in cryptocurrency for the pair and that includes shipping (within the contiguous 48 states.) I can accept BTC, RPC, PotCoin, HoboNickels, Doge, or MTC.

I can provide (a ton of) references. I am new to transacting in crypto so if there is some special safe way we can do this, I am open to suggestions.
19  Economy / Securities / legality of US investors buying "shares" on sites like crypto-trade/havelock/etc on: February 15, 2014, 10:35:06 PM
Does anyone have any information about the legality of US citizens buying "shares" on all these sites that seem to be popping up where you can acquire "shares" of companies but it all doesn't seem to be regulated by the SEC?

Appreciate any info.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / How do you determine what transaction fee to offer when sending from wallet? on: February 10, 2014, 07:24:19 PM
I have read a number of posts/stories from people who have had their transactions not show up for extremely long periods of time (such as when sending to an exchange) and it turned out that they had not set any transaction fee in their wallet. So I am paranoid and always use a transaction fee.

But how can you determine what is enough to get your transaction processed in a reasonable timeframe, but not unnecessarily high? With some QT wallets it says a "suggested" fee but what is that based on? And some, like potcoin, don't list any suggested fee at all - and if you try to send potcoin in any substantial volume it starts trying to multiply whatever transaction fee you have set several times over (For example I tried setting the fee to 0.1 and when I tried to send 6200 it tried to charge me .4 wtf?)
